Its ok.     On: 2010-07-23

If youve played Area 51 , Time Splitters or the Suffering , youll feel right at home playing this game. The gameplay is very similar Area 51 as are the graphics and some of the enemies are very similar to The Suffering enemies. Theres nothing really groundbreaking about this game , but theres nothing bad enough to drive you away from it either if you can get it for a decent price.
In my opinion if you can get a copy for around $10 you should give it a try, any higher than that Id give it a pass . If youve played many FPSs you wont find much new here .
The Best Single-Player Campaign Shooter... Possibly Ever.     On: 2010-07-17

To begin with, I have to point out how dated this game is. But even a few years old, four to be exact, it still passes the test of time. Youre probably asking yourself, what makes this game so great?

Its certainly not the graphics, not at this point. Theyre perhaps respectable but certainly not impressive anymore. Its basically everything besides the graphics, specifically the gameplay, storyline, strategy and flow.

Why is the gameplay so great? Everything seems natural and has ideal flow. The controls feel intuitive, the weapons are explained quickly and their use is easy. The health system is far more fun than the Call of Duty system where you never die and never need health packs. The game isnt particularly difficult if youre good at shooters, but youll still die a few times, no matter what. The atmosphere of every level carries a creepy note and some can be downright frightening. It will literally fill you with a sense of dread. The enemies look great, scary but not too far-fetched. Their AI is about right. Theyll sometimes fall back but other times, reckless attack is their method.

The variety of gameplay is also great. There are massive, open field battles in addition to the normal one-man hero style shooter mission. You can also drive/pilot several very original vehicles in the process. Being at the helm of a stalker is a true experience. The weapons are really innovative, specifically the Auger and Hailstorm. The sniper rifle is also well done. I also enjoyed using the shotgun, a classic even against futuristic alien-hybrids. But I do have a complaint here. The Auger can be very annoying when used against you because it can penetrate several walls and seemingly bounce into you randomly.

What about the story? Its nothing new to the science fiction arena. Humans get infected with a virus, though during WWII in this case, and become alien-like creatures. The explanations given throughout the course of the story explain everything, including how it happened, how/why there are different types etc. However, the very best thing about the story is the narration. Its given by a female character you meet early on, and will really get you involved in the game. It made me care in a way few games ever do.

Despite being a FPS, there is a bit of strategy in this game. Because health isnt usually hard to come by, there are often other practical considerations, specifically ammo. If you waste ammo, especially of the more powerful type, against weaker opponents, it will come back to bite you later on. Youre also often better off killing enemies in a certain sequence a certain way that is counter-intuitive, e.g. going the harder route and being forced to kill more enemies but gaining more ammo in the process.

Last but not least, the game has superb flow. The way missions are interchanged is excellent. Some are non-stop shooting while others will require you to do a bit of searching before you can move on. Youll also rarely face super-powerful opponents who magically kill you with one hit. Instead, youll face a myriad of weaker, but still strongly freakish enemies. Something I really liked about this game was how the missions seemed to get gradually more difficult until the very end. There are only a few missions that will be super challenging. Theyre very late in the game and this is by design.

One legitimate gripe is that the multi-player and co-op modes in this game are very run of the mill. Theyre nothing impressive. The manufacturer really tried to spice this up in the sequel but ended up ignoring the single-player campaigns in the process.

Overall, this game is one of the best ever in terms of the single-player campaign. Ive beaten it once and will play it again, after Im done with Resistance 2. For around $25, this is a PS3 must have.

The best shooter on PS3 back then     On: 2010-07-15

Back when PS3 launched, there were not many good games out there. As I like shooters, I decided to give this one a shot. Simply put this game turned out MUCH BETTER than what I expected.

PROS.

-AWESOME ALIEN WEAPONS: Most of the first person shooters today have the same type of weapons, but Resistance has very unique set of alien weapons that will distinguish it from the rest of the average shooter. For example, with a gun named bullseye, you can tag an enemy and then regardless where it runs, your shots follow him. Another one is called Auger, that shoots bullets through the wall. And what I described is just tip of the ice burg.

-MORE ALIEN WEAPONS: There are some cool alien weapons that are not available during the first playthrough. But once you beat the game, during the second playthrough, you can obtain and use them. This truly adds to replayability of the game.

-VEHICLES: Other than weapons, you also get access to some cool human and alien vehicles. I cant tell you how awesome it feels to massacre hordes and hordes of enemies using devastating human tanks and giant alien fighters.

-DECENT VARIETY IN ENEMIES: While all of their faces are very similar, this game does a very good job with challenging you with a variety of enemies. This can be single unarmed chimera to giant chimeran monsters and chimeran vehicles. In brief, you wont get bored.

-PRETTY GOOD STORY: The story is about how Sergent Hale who is infected with Chimeran virus fights chimeran enemies while fighting infection itself. Unfortunately, I cant tell you much without spoiling, but story is simple and very nicely narrated. While it doesnt take huge twists, there are events that will get you curious about Hale and human race fate.

-VARIETY OF AREAS: So many shooters these days have the same type of corridor like area over and over again. Not resistance though. You will pass through plenty of open fields, woods, buildings, cities and chimeran towers in this game.

-AWESOME MULTIPLAYER: You can fight as human vs human, human vs chimera and chimera vs chimera in different multiplayer modes. Being human and chimera introduce you distinct advantages and limitation making multiplayer very involved and deep.

-GREAT REPLAYABILITY: With multiplayer, different difficulty modes and second run through weapons, you will be playing this game for quite a while.

Like every game Resistance also has its limitation.

CONS

-YOUR HEALTH BAR: While some people may love it, I dont like health bar in shooters these days. It diverts me from the story experience and makes me focus on searching health packs. Really not big fan of it. This also kind of makes more challenging at times than what it needs to be.

-MINES: Hate mines. While it makes experience more real, parts of the game are frustrating because you will suddenly die because of them.

-COLORE TEXTURE: Graphics are awesome in this game, however, colors in general look a bit faded. Never the less the game still looks magnificent.

Contrary to minor flaws, this game truly delivers. Different alien weapons, vehicles and enemies will truly make this game an enjoyable experience that will make you coming back for more. Oh did I tell you that other than single player, it also has an awesome multiplayer?
Great game, but just hate the autosave only function     On: 2010-07-06

Im not going to go into detail on this game. Thats been done before and very well. Its a great first person shooter, and is pretty much non-stop action. I played Fallout 3 before this, and that is my all time favorite game. After the play at your own pace, explore what you like style of play of Fallout 3, this was quite a change. You hardly get a chance to breathe without being attacked by something here. While I like the shooting and weapons, I absolutely hate games that dont let you save where you want to save a game. There is absolutely nothing more frustrating that to get through a difficult part (still no save), then find yourself getting killed in a second difficult part. Then theres the fun of going back and doing both all over again. Im just a casual gamer, who wants to have fun exploring, shooting, being entertained by the storyline, and NOT having to do whole scenes over again because my character got killed in the middle or end of the scene. So, for those of you who feel the same way, I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting into. Resistance:Fall of Man has only autosave positions, so you can not save the game when you want to. If I could save the game when I wanted to (like Fallout 3, Bioshock and Bioshock 2), Id give this 5 stars, but it loses a star because it only has the autosave function. Too bad.
Finally got it, but not impressed     On: 2010-06-01

I finally decided to get a ps3, and started by ordering all of the "best" games so far. Killzone 2, Resistance, Littlebig Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous and Uncharted. Being that this was the console exclusive killer game i played through this first.
Two words
Not satisfied. I found the graphics lacking (though i admit the game came out 3 years ago, and games like Killzone 2 and Uncharted seem to do ALOT more with the PS3s graphical potential. My biggest complaint was the gameplay itself, it just felt like a really standard shooter. I also had a problem with it feeling "floaty" like older shooters where your character and weapons had no "weight". Its hard to explain, but take a modern shooter like Killzone 2 or the call of duty series, it feels more real in that you are actually running, aiming etc, this game it felt too loose and slidey, where at a dead sprint my character just felt liek they were sliding along the map, this is even with turning the sensitivity down.
I thought the SP campaign had a cool concept, with a neat alternate story line. I didnt like the levels, they felt WAY too linear (Killzone and Call of Duty are linear as well, but this game made me fell like I was navigating a rat maze the whole time) A few later maps felt alot better (its seems to be the game did get better as it got along, as if the last few levels were the last few done, with the highest polish, I seriously dread that first level when I crank through this on a higher difficulty, it felt bland)
Didnt spend more thena few hours on it, but the MP felt the same.
I must admit, there is something good there, and I AM going to buy the sequal on the promises that its bigger, badder and more epic.
All in all, a used copy for 20 bucks is a better deal then the Greatest hits for 30.
Fall of man review     On: 2010-05-12

Well the game is ok a great shooter but I have been getting digital sicknees if you sit to close with a large screen TV it seems to be in some old video format
A Great First Person Shooter     On: 2010-04-27

Resistance: "Fall of Man", is a first-person action game that has an interesting plot and wonderful fighting areas. The aliens are very mysterious and extremely terrifying. Playing this game during the solo missions (without friendly AI assistance) makes this game scary and will make one feel isolated and lonely among the creatures. The feeling of isolation can get so intense, that players will actually feel relieved when they run into their fellow human allies.

The areas once teeming with people feel spooky, abandoned, and one wonders if humans are just another species, doomed for extinction. The enemy AI is smart and one can guarantee that aliens are just waiting to ambush you among the ruins.

Ultimately, this game is very well done and improves on the first-person genre. For example, the controls are fast and fluid and there is tons of action without frame-rate issues. The game also seems devoid of pauses that stop the action for the sake of loading more information. In contrast, Killzone 2, while a good game has that annoying problem. While its true that Resistance can be labeled as just another title in the genre, it can also be said that a similar title has never attained this level of perfection.

In conclusion, this title is a must buy for all PS3 owners. It is now even more reasonably priced, since the sequel to it was released and it remains one of the best games for the system.

Am I just Jaded?     On: 2010-04-26

I recently purchased a PS3 after all these years and have been buying up all the old classics left and right. I figured id give ole Resistance a go because of all the years of praise that have been given to it. Its a good looking game no doubt about it, even after all these years it still holds up. I can imagine that when this came out it probably blew a few minds. Ive got to be honest, i dont know whether im just a jaded PC FPS gamer or does Resistance have some of the worst console FPS controls ever conceived? When i actually hit something using the analog stick it feels pretty good, but all i can think about is how if i just had a mouse and keyboard i would devastate the opposition instead of running around struggling to even aim at the enemy, firing wildly in all directions as i take out window after window never even grazing the enemy. I liked the weapons right off the bat, especially the gun that allows you to tag an enemy then fire homing rounds so you dont have to aim, but its that initial homing tag that is difficult to even land because of the horrid aiming scheme. This game sealed the coffin on console first person shooters for me, but if you like console FPS then you cant go wrong with Resistance especially with how cheap it is now. But if you are like me and are used to accurately hitting your enemies with a mouse and keyboard, steer clear of this one.
My first ps3 Shooter     On: 2010-04-14

Compared to the new games, the difference is obvious, but a couple a years ago, this game was pretty good, a good fun shooter, actually better IMO than the sequel, the best part was that it had coop campaign, thats how i played it with a friend, and it was fun.

Should you purchase it now... i dont know, if its cheap you should try it, otherwise it would be just for nostalgia.

Good: Fun, coop campaign, cool story
Bad: Looks dated, i dont think theres online support anymore.
why is this game 4.5 stars?     On: 2010-04-08

I played resistance for 15 minutes at a motor cycle convention; i was glad when i was done. The game has a very simple, and narrow track feel. Dull enemies shoot and clamer at you as they try to eat you or something. So it was a surprise to me when I saw this game rated at four and a half stars, which is higher than both the rainbow vegas, as well as MW bad company. I like a lot of video games, but this one is not included in that roster. So why the high rating? why?

I would give this game 2 or 3 stars but i thought id give it one to counteract the fallacy of this games quality.
Maybe this was fun when this was the only exclusive title for PS3     On: 2010-04-06

This game straight up suuuuuuucks, I bought resistance 2 from a friend but I wanted to play the first game to get the full story before I went on Nathan Hales second mission. But um this game sucks hard, I played about half way through and just put this game back on the shelf. Controls feel cheap, especially controlling vehicles, and the graphics suck suck suck. The only reason it gets two stars is because the story kind of kept me interested, and the AI is smart. I think Ill just wikipedia this story instead. PASS ON THIS GAME
Resistance Fall Of Man Review     On: 2010-03-31

I received this game with my 160GB PS3, and to tell you the truth, I planned to sell it to Gamestop the next chance I got. Im glad I didnt, because in truth, this is one of the best FPSs ive played in a while. Its not as good as Call Of Duty, but its good in its own kind of way. The story is very interesting and well told, and the action is nonstop, which is what I like in a shooter. It flows really well, and AI is the best ive seen in any shooter before. The cover system could use a little work though, and the varity of weapons could be a bit broader, but its cool. Multiplayer co-op is VERY fun to play as well. Overall I give Resistance Fall Of Man a 5/5.
Looking for a recommendation     On: 2010-03-23

I am a new gamer. My first game was Resistance - I loved it. I am looking for a recommendation for a first person shooter game, or a zombie killing game, that may actually be better than Resistance. I dont know if that is possible. I tried Metal Gear Solid 4 and it bored me to death. I know it great and all but I thought it was too slow. I would like to hear what you think.

Still one of the best for the PS3     On: 2010-02-20

Hard to believe that this is the first game ever made for the PS3 and still one of my top 5. I have finished this game twice by myself and once Cooperative. Very fun shooting, good learning curve, good checkpoints, solid frame rate, nice muted graphics. If you have not played this game, give it a chance. Keep in mind that this is an old school first person shooter. You dont get regenerative health. You do sort of but those little health bars go real quick if you are not careful. Very good AI means that if you dont strategize, you will die a lot in this game. There is no auto-aim a la Call of Duty. The best part of this game is the co-op and the variety of cool guns. For some reason, some people literally loath this game and others(like myself) love it. Give it a chance. Generally, if you dont like it the first hour, you are not going to like it. Try the free demo on the PSN first before buying to see if the mechanics appeal to you..
As all reviews mentioned it is a superb game     On: 2010-02-08

A super game, fast hi techniques used in the gameplay, exciting weapons. May be a bit short but absolutely enjoyable
FUN FUN FUN FUN!     On: 2010-02-05

What can I say, the game lives up to the hype and is extremely fun. The AI is intelligently clever, the story is cool, the levels seem to go on forever, and the graphics are fantastic on an HD screen. Online multiplayer with PS3 is seamless, no lag whatsoever. A PS3 game collection must have. I cant wait to play the next version.
Great game all around     On: 2010-01-21

Right off the bat you know its a quality game. From the opening sequence you are put into a warzone that is very believable. The weapons are great to use and sound authentic and your enenemy is very fierce.I am about halfway through and its easily the best shooter on the playstation3.I have played Killzone too and while killzone may have SLIGHTY better grahics the movement and controls here in resistance are far superior to that game.

The Multiplay is really great too. I like the weapons and interaction. The maps are kinda dull though campared to say Gears of war 2, but thats on a different console entirely so really of no comparison.

I would highly rate this game a must buy . Since its been out a while too the price point is ridiculously low for such a high quality polished game.

an old throwback     On: 2010-01-08

I was interested in the game... wow... what a let down. Gave it to my grandson. Hopefully they wont come out with a update.
Where's the movie?!!     On: 2009-12-30

When I bought my PS3 back in 2006, this was the first game I had played since selling my 1st generation Playstation nearly 15 years ago, to focus on my studies. Boy was it addictive then and still holds my interest 3 years later. Many a weekend night was spent in front of the TV that first month I played it. More than any other game Ive played or even heard of, Id love to see Hollywood turn this game into a movie. The WWII setting, provided the perfect ambience for the storyline and the graphics look great even on a 100 inch screen. Ive played through the storymode 7 times now, Ive achieved the highest rank in online play, and I wouldnt change a thing, other than make a better sequel than Resistance 2 delivered.
This Is Awful. Just Awful     On: 2009-12-30

this game is crap. and Im even coming from the whole "it was made in late-2006" angle. this game could be average, but the controls and shooting are some of the worst Ive ever seen. that puts it down several pegs. I dont even know why it got such good reviews when it came out. bad story, TERRIBLE storytelling, awful controls, bad shooting, frustrating gameplay, lackluster multiplayer, and to top it all off, the game is fairly short. me and a friend co-oped and beat the game on hard in a single 5-hour session.

one thing: co-op is hilarious. when you revive your buddy, what the hell are you doing? is it magic? and whats with the sound?! me and several friends all agreed, after spending an hour playing it: this game is crap. dont even bother with it. if the second one is any good, this one destroyed any chance of me buying it.
resistance 1     On: 2009-12-17

i like t the game til about half of the way into the game after a while it gets to repetive....its an ok game
Two Years Late, but still a Solid Title     On: 2009-11-24

Im two years late to the PS3 party because I wasnt going to drop $600 on a game system. WHen they hit $299 it was enough for me to make the plunge. WIth this game in the <$20 range its a great pick up and a no brainer. Content wise it will keep you going for hours and a great use of all the main features of the controller + system. Multiplayer is still alive and well and it was easy to find a group of people to run around and shoot at.

The story line was a surprise to me as I had not read any reviews and had only played it slightly in the store years ago. Having it set in the 1950s was a surprise and a welcome treat because Im a fan of alternative history speculative fiction. The bad guys are pretty tough in the PVE mode and include teaming up on you and going for cover. Very creative for FPS even with the newer titles out.

The opening chapter/massacre was pretty intense considering how blind I went into it. THings softened up a bit afterwords but at first I was wondering if it was going to be this difficult even at the medium difficulty.
Excellent Game. Buy it - it is SO worth it.     On: 2009-11-13

This game is an absolute blast to play. The campaign is very well written with great, informative cinematic part between missions. Also, most importantly, the campaign is LONG! Do not expect to beat this thing in 5-6 hours like a Call of Duty game. It will easily take 10+ hours. The first night I got it, my friend and I sat down and played the campaign in split screen co-op for about 6-7 hours and only got half way through, and the later missions take longer due to their difficulty.

Im not one of those reviewers that breaks down the game to scrutinize each part, I judge it on how much fun it is to play, and this game really is fun. The storyline is interesting, and the game play is great.

I have yet to play online though I did play some split screen competitive with some friends, and my only gripes are that though you can only have 4 people play locally, their smallest map is 8 player, and also, you cant link two PS3s and play 4 person per PS3. When linking systems, you go down to 1 person per console. So basically you need 5 consoles for 5 people but only 1 console for 4. Very lame if you ask me. Also, the damage needs to be turned down to about 20% for any real fun game play, or else everything is more or less a one hit kill.

As for the campaign, was that in co-op mode, the second player is just some random guy that is never mentioned in the storyline or cinematic parts, so hes like a ghost that appears and disappears.

However, despite my gripes, I still gave it 5/5 for both fun and overall because this game really is a ton of fun and it is overall very good.

It is one of the few games that allow split screen co-op for the main campaign (VERY disappointed that they dont have this in Resistance 2 - I have just ordered this and have yet to receive it).
Fall of Man     On: 2009-11-12

First said, im only commenting on multiplayer deathmatch. Ive played multiplayer for many years, back when doom and duke nukem were new. Of all the games with intense multiplayer competition, fall of man is the best. The call of duty series and the old un-animated half life probable come very close. You cant run thru a door and drop a frag or hedgehog grenade and waste all that follow any quicker than fall of man. Face a group of supreme commanders and get your tail handed back to you. Nice :)
An oldie, but very very amazing title!     On: 2009-11-03

Nice balance for a first person shooter!! Really cool storyline, inmersive and nicely balanced with all the chaos form the chimera!!! At first, for all the casual gamers, the controls take time getting used to but never the less is an exponential curve and in no time its the least of your problems when surrounded by 10-15 hybrids all shooting merciless on you!!! Play the games storyline and really enjoy!!! Call a friend and enjoy one of the strongest co-op storyline games I have ever seen (trust me, after playing from Perfect Dark to James Bond to Timeslpitters to Metroid its A REAL DEAL!)

And playing online is madness, sweet, chaos and everything else as it is enjoyable but mayhem is awesome!!! Playing with other 39 players(!!!) is just pure craziness in a very satisfying and incredible way!!!
Game as promised!     On: 2009-10-30

This game came to me within a week on regular shipping. The disk is in excellent condition and plays with out a flaw. Great purchase. I will use this vendor again.
Resistance is Futile     On: 2009-10-18

Resistance was the first FPS that I purchased for the PS3 and it was a great way to start the generation. This game was an amazing ride that left me begging for more. The story is so well written, and the action complements it so well. The graphics are also pretty good. They are not amazing, but the grim green color of the game sort of hurts the graphics, but adds to the overall presentation of the game. The voice overs are spooky and mysterious. They really make you feel like youre a part of something bigger than yourself. This game also had great full campaign co op offline. This was a great touch that added the replayability to the title. This title should not be missed by anyone who loves the FPS genre; the sequel is a different story.

Presentation- The menus and overall feel of the game is gloomy and gritty. This helps put the player into the fight as the human race fights to survive against the Chimera. They do however hurt the graphics; they should have been a bit brighter in places. The cut scenes are also well done as well as the music and sound effects. 4.5/5

Graphics- As I said above the grittiness of the game hurt the overall feel of the graphics. They could have been better, but they did look good in cut scenes where the grittiness was not as prevalent. 4/5

Story- The story is where Resistance really shines. The voice overs are an excellent way to narrate Hales journey. The characters are woven into the campaign very seamlessly and you connect to each one. There is a great deal of mystery that adds to the fun of the campaign. Finding out what happened or will happen to Hale was a great adventure. 5/5

Game Play- The use of different rings to hold your weapons is ingenious. I love to hold all of the weapons in the game, and harder difficulties give you more weapons. The only gripe I have is that the enemies seem to take a few too many hits. They should be dead after a few headshots. 4.5/5

Lasting Appeal- This game is a treasure. The only sad part is that the sequel was so disappointing, that sort of hurt this game, and the franchise. I have beaten it five times. This game has a great replay value. I recommend this title however, I dont recommend the sequel. 5/5

Overall 4.6/5

an OK game. C+     On: 2009-09-25

This game is average. There is absolutely nothing special about it. Its not worth paying $60 to play it, but its definitely worth $10-$15! (thats the price I paid)
As you go along, killing monsters and various creatures one after another, you cant wait to get to the end of the game. You dont really enjoy playing it. It gets really monotonous and annoying with all of its dark underground tunnels. In addition, surroundings are kinda similar from one level to the next. You either fight on the streets of London (which I personally liked)or in some dark underground areas (tunnels, subway station, etc.). Sometimes, you cant see a thing in these annoying tunnels (no matter how you adjust your TV settings!) and just keep on shooting in every direction. Graphics are not horrible..they are average as well. In fact , everything about this game is just average...even the ending. Id give it a solid C+
If you wanna kill time - this is a good way of doing it.
Great split-screen co-op offline campaign mode for 2 players     On: 2009-09-16

I was looking for games to play on my PS3 with my gf. I was surprised how few are out there to do this. After a great deal of internet searching this was one of the four I found. This game was rated highest and was said to be easy so we started with this one. We both had a lot of fun.

The game is not as good as other shooters I have played. The graphics and the story were not great. It is the split-screen co-op offline campaign mode that makes the game.

The other three games (purchased but yet to be played are (in the following order):

- Army of Two (easy)
- Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (hard)
- Resident Evil 5 (hard)
Fun game, old.     On: 2009-09-11

This is early PS3. Its fun to play through and has a different feel than other shooters, but its old PS3. Game makers have made many advancements on PS3 since this came out.
Just not all that great as everyone says and the demo makes it feel.     On: 2009-09-09

First person shooter all the way. Nice graphics is all that holds this game from being last Gen.
resistance fall of man is a very good game     On: 2009-09-05

this game is pretty good, i had a lotta fun playin it, i would recommend buyin it.
It was ok...     On: 2009-08-29

I dont know, I just couldnt get into this game. Maybe if I got this game when it came out and was more involved with the online community Id have a different view. Im just more partial to COD:WaW for my fps.
uh, I did'nt really like it...(cringing...)     On: 2009-08-26

Seriously, Im not trolling here. I played the Resistance demo and while it wasnt terrible I didnt really enjoy it. The other day i saw the game for like $15 at Target so picked it up thinking maybe the demo wasnt an accurate depiction of the game...unfortunately I think it was.

Let me preface this by saying I have been playing video games for a long time and while I am defintely not a FPS God, Im also not totally inept. Though I usually stay out of the FPS genre. I recently played through the campaign in COD:WaW and thought it was incredible.

That being said when I played Resistance I didnt get the same feeling. It seemed to me like I died quite a bit. I know its going to happen, but I think i may have even played on easy since I had the same problem in the demo and still died frequently. It also seemed like it took alot of shots to bring down the initial enemies. Also, after I was quickly killed it seemed like I had to wait forever to get back in the "action". Action including shooting into a house from across the street and into several barricades with aliens behind them. I cant speak to the variety of the weapons because I quickly tired of pumping dozens of rounds into the same enemy before i was killed while trying to get a shot off and didnt even make it past the first level before i turned it off.

It just wasnt very exciting to me. Before anybody throws out a "oh, cant take getting pwned n00b?" Its not that at all. I got killed a ton in COD and still enjoyed the gameplay while getting killed. Im just learning that this was a launch title and may have its issues, but its suprising to see it rated almost 5 stars, i mean 5 stars people? Sounds like alot of hype to me.

I may try to give it another shot. I like the concept and once again Ive read great reviews for it, but i guess either i just dont get it or didnt give it a chance...or it just actually sucked...just consider it.
Uh - where is the boss fight?     On: 2009-08-24

I played resistance FOM on split screen coop which was a great time. The story is decent, the main character isnt very likeable, the enemies are pretty creative, the AI is surprisingly good, the weapons are good with a lot of variety, the environments save for the last few levels all look the same and the game is a very good length for an FPS - at the price point it is now - its money well spent. A few things that bothered me about the game. The main character was completely lifeless. While the game claims to have a lot of weapons - a lot of the weapons become available very late in the game so much so that you dont even really have a chance to have a lot of fun with them, seriously a weak flaw with the game. My biggest problem...theres not a single legitimate boss battle in the ENTIRE game. There was one point in the game where you come face to face with this mother brain type bug and there are countless cutscenes leading up to that encounter so you think youd be able to fight this thing...just when you are ready to unload on it - the game goes to a cutscene of you killing it! How Freaking WEAK. Another thing is that the difficulty doesnt really seem to scale well. We played the coop campaign on normal difficulty which seemed way too hard to be just "normal" The enemies are relentless in some parts and we found ourselves replaying a fight 5 or 6 times at a few points in the game. We are both very decent at FPS games. The Easy was way too easy and the Hard setting didnt even seem palatable given how annoying some parts of the normal campaign was. Its a well produced and polished game with some issues that annoyed me. Given its fun factor, design and length I give it 4 out of 5. Probably feels more like a 3 though.
Dude.. where's my graphics??     On: 2009-08-12

So,

I picked up this game in the high hopes that it would be epic.. like all the reviews posted here make it seem to be. I dont know if these people are paid to say this stuff or what is going on but I was NOT impressed with this game.. The graphics are literally like in the range of those of the old OLD Sega Genesis console.. I have a PC and play half life 2..and mind you, I havent played on a PC in a few years and a few years ago(which I feel is an ocean of time when it comes to technology and graphics) and even 2 to 3 years ago the graphics on my PC were not just marginally better but infinitely better then on this game!.. I was sort of shocked when I started playing this game at how bad it really was... Resident Evil 4.. for PS2 has graphics that are so much better then this game I couldnt believe it!. These graphics cant even hang with my PS2!
I feel like if you are going to charge next generation console gaming prices you better be able to deliver next generation console results!... Aye...
Extremely high fun factor, co-op mode is a blast     On: 2009-08-11

Though I play them often enough, I have never been a huge fan of the first person shooter genre. This game changed my mind. Extremely easy to pick up and play with extremely fast action and great pacing.

The graphics are not all that impressive for ps3 next gen standards, but the game runs extremely smoothly with almost no hitches.

For me the best feature of this game is co-op mode by far. Growing up playing games, there were always those incredibly fun games you could play with your friends like contra 3, etc. Recently it seems like there just arent that many games you can actually sit down with friends in your house and play. Everything is just online. I understand that gaming is trending towards social interactions online, but it shouldnt prevent people from actually getting together and throwing on a game for a little while. My wife and I played through Resistance and it was probably the most fun Ive had in an action game in a long time. It also great that the levels are just the right length, which makes you want to just play that one last level before stopping. I really liked the vertical split screen, which works great for widescreen sets.

I actually feel that Resistance 2 took out some of that fun factor by removing offline coop for the campaign mode, among other things.

Since everyone has already played through this, you can find it for very cheap. If you havent already played it, definitely buy this game. You will enjoy it.
Great 1st person shooter     On: 2009-07-26

I wont do an in depth review because others have done that well. I will say I play a lot of 1st person shooter games and am a big Medal of Honor and Call of Duty fan. Resistance Fall of Man is a terrific game of that genre and Im having a blast playing it. Personally, I still prefer the more realistic war games like MOH and COD but for me this is a close second. As this one is a bit older now, got it at a great price on Amazon. Plan to get Resistance 2 when Im finished with this.
Great Service and an Awesome game!     On: 2009-07-09

The service went great. I received the game on time in perfect condition. The game is probably one of the best I have played in a long time. I am for sure going to buy from this seller again.
Fun first person shooter     On: 2009-07-04

I didnt get this when it first came out with the ps3. Good thing I waited because I just picked it up last week for 1/3 of the original price. Its a first person shooter with pretty decent graphics but game play not as great as some others.
resistance     On: 2009-06-21

fun first person shooter game. pretty good plot to go along with the smooth gameplay
Resistance Fall of Man     On: 2009-06-20

Great Game and it was delivered right away without any trouble, i recommend this seller
Good game for an ordinary shooter     On: 2009-06-15

Back in late 2006, the Playstation 3 launched a year after the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii and it was met with a share bit of indifference. First there was the price at 599, then there was the launch titles which were good but there wasnt that one Halo or Mario 64 that said "THIS is why youre spending all that money so you can play ". Turns out the PS3 is actually a quite serviceable game console and one of the more premier titles that was released at the time of launch was "Resistance: Fall of Man", a WWII shooter with an intriguing premise brought to you by the studio who made "Ratchet and Clank". Hows the game? Good but not completely excellent but does its job admirably.

Story: Its 1951 and World War II never happened. Rather a different kind of force raged through Europe; that of the Chimera, an alien (or genetic creation? I dont know )race that conquered Russia and Europe incredibly quickly and sets their sights on England. But the Americans, like the real World War II, shows up later and among the soldiers is Nathan Hale whose missions will take him deep into Chimeran territory to hopefully wipe them out.

Graphics: Resistance in terms of framerate is incredibly smooth with barely any problems in terms of slowdown, jitteryness or screen tearing and such which is quite a feat considering the battleground can be quite chaotic. Other areas however are a bit hit-or-miss with up close textures looking a bit bland while things far away look pretty remarkable and some cool "sci-fi spaceship" designs near the end of the level. The detail on the Chimera themselves as well look quite good and the variety is also welcome but as a launch title that shows the power of the PS3, this doesnt have the wow factor of Tools of Destruction has.

Sound/Music: Like a lot of WWII shooters, heavy on the military style percussion, trumpet and big epic flavors during the bigger firefights. Though you might get sick of the small music interlude when you die, especially in later levels. As for voice acting, the main draw is the VA for Rachel Parker who acts as a narrator and shes very good at bringing you in to the action rather than just a plain old "storyteller" during cutscenes. Nathan Hale probably has more lines of dialogue than Insomniac has games however which makes him a strange hero, bad*** enough but not much of a character.

Gameplay: The meat of this is an FPS and theres not much else to it then that. You have your squad members occasionally with you (who die too frequently and too quickly), you alone against a legion of troops, vehicle sections where you command a tank, a jeep and a really cool vehicle later on as well as guns and grenades but Resistance mainly does one thing differently and thats regarding your arsenal. Instead of being limited to 2 guns, the game offers a weapon wheel where all the weapons you found will stay with you till the end of the game and though some incredulous thinking kind of makes it funny (a guy can fit a sniper rifle, missile launcher, and at least 7 other guns in his pocket? Hm.) it does add some good incentive to experiment. Snipe some dudes from afar, lay down explosive goo as traps, and more, having a full inventory to choose from helps you with any situation as opposed to the sequel where the 2-weapon-only scheme made you go "do I bring this or that one?"

Like the Ratchet and Clank games, Insomniac loves to brainstorm really messed up weapons. Each weapon has an alternate fire which is specific to that gun. Your typical plasma gun Bullseye can "tag" an enemy so that all gunfire will zero in on that dude specifically or the Augur which can fire through walls but also set up a bulletproof shield temporarily. My favorite though is the Fareye which can slow down time so you can shoot enemy heads more accurately. This ingenuity even goes down to the grenades which adds 2 types other than the traditional frag: the hedgehog which fires a large group of spikes to impale enemies and the air-fuel grenade which can create a flammable vapor which incinerates nearby enemies. It gives a bit more interest than just simply "oh hey look, another assault rifle type, whoopee".

However, I do have a couple of complaints. The control scheme is a little funky and I had to switch shoulder buttons around to make it more comfortable but my least favorite thing is having your aim be the right analog which like Killzone 2 never feels as comfortable as using the Left Trigger buttons and its somewhat disorienting to reload during a zoom in since it goes back to a zoom-in when you maybe just want to return to normal view and more than once I died because I couldnt get out of a zoom look quickly enough. And like Resistance 2, its a "learn by death" game where the more you play, the more you figure out your strategies by what NOT to do such as blindly going in quickly or not paying attention to one key area. And since enemies are incredibly good shots, this makes it a pain when 4 or 5 get the surprise on you and even headshots dont down them immediately so it makes managing the battlefield stressful.

Oop, almost forgot multiplayer. Up to 40 players with your standard Deathmatch and Team DM, Capture the Flag and Bombing variances are here but the battles are so frantic that its like a huge playground where everyones in the thick of it. One complaint that I have about the equally-fun Killzone 2 online component is that the maps start you at one end while enemies spawn at the other and you end up meeting in the middle. But since spawn points are within a gigantic square as it were, you have to be on your toes a lot more since you can spawn a corner away from 3 dudes aching for some kills. And best part of all? No noticeable lag whatsoever and havent experienced one disconnect. While I wish the co-op was online as well as with the single player campaign rather than a separate file, the online in this game is quite a blast.

Resistance: Fall of Man in terms of a story has a bit more weight than the sequel did but the frequent cutscene interruptions just when things are getting more intense slightly annoy. With the requisite intel to collect and other difficulties to tackle, Fall of Man is a good game to check out though strangely, Insomniac seems to really pull out some wonders when they do the Ratchet and Clank stuff.
Doom     On: 2009-06-11

The game feels very much like Doom to me. It starts out slow, but becomes more difficult quickly. A fun game to pass the time.
This game sucks.     On: 2009-06-07

It took me awhile to buy a PS3 - but when i finally did - i bought Resistance(big mistake), call of duty 4, metal gear solid 4 and assassins creed.

Man does this game suck. I hate it - Its just an overhyped Shooter. To me it does nothing special and it executes terribly. I dont see how this game has such good reviews. Maybe its the whole developent team that voted 5 stars for it.

I cant even give you a full review cuz i stopped playing after about 45 minutes but im telling you this game sucks!!! Call of duty 4 was far far far better than this sorry piece of software called a "next-gen" shooter.

I wish i could give it 0 Stars.
Resistance     On: 2009-06-06

I liked the game. It took about two too three weeks to beat. I hardly play any videos games. Especially for ps3, I bought the game and it was awesome. I enjoyed playing and recommend it. But just not in front of little kids.
This is part 2 for fall of man     On: 2009-05-31

Part 1 is on the used copies just search video games type in Resistance for what lookikng for and youll find under used copies read it 1st you know the drill. So back to where I was at I hate the broken bridges level and the level where youre in a stalker spider and you have to fight this bigger stalker and the after that you have to fight 2 more stalkers. freaking sweet guns and a pretty good storyline. Isnt as awesome as Doom but cause as far as FPSs go its way better but Resistance Fall of Man is a graeat FPS.
Very late review     On: 2009-05-22

Wow, Where to begin? So i finally bought myself a ps3 in march 2009. Upon purchasing it i bought Skate 1 (rocked) and NBA Live 08 (sucked). blown away by the graphics i was slightly dissapointed throwing $400 down for this system. I went to my buddies and a light dawned on me when he let me borrow Resistance Fall of man. i popped that baby in and was completely blown away! The story captures you and clings you in to play each addicting chapter after chapter untill hours have flown by. I have completed it on easy and im now half-way through on medium. To my surprise the replay value is immense! new weapons on each time you play makes it a different experiance on each replay! Ive said enough, now i know its money well spent for my ps3! a must have!
Arcade style fun.     On: 2009-05-21

Each time I played Resistance I always thought of it as an arcade. The game is really fun and sometimes over the top. I had very few expectations from this game. Most of it came from watching trailers. The game looked bland and repetitive. Once I got my hands on it, I was surprised. So take my word for it. If the game looks boring to you, just ignore the trailers and get this game. Trust me you wont regret it.

Fun but linear     On: 2009-05-14

Gameplay and Story are great but the game is way too linear. As in there is only one path through every map. Theres no looking for keys or doubling back in a maze. You just take the obvious route and kill everything along the way. Theres also no scary moments like monsters exploding out of the walls or sneaking up behind you. The action is always (99%) in front of you with ammo and health conveniently located along the way.
I keep playing this again and again...     On: 2009-05-13

I own about 12 games (half of them FPS), and this one has been played almost every day since I got it. Its not too easy, not to hard and its a lot of fun. My 6 year old daughter really enjoys some of the enemy creatures, which are deadly but yet funny looking.
A definite 5 star.
Great graphics, great Dolby Digital sound, interesting story line, fun online modes, but a bit lacking in weapons.     On: 2009-05-13

Resistance has amazing graphics on an HDTV. The video cut scenes look incredible. The Dolby Digital surround sound is equally amazing. You can actually use the surround speakers to tell where an opponent or the computer is located. The story line is interesting, but kind of cheesy at times. Online play is fun, and I have only noticed lag once or twice. There are many online modes to choose from, but sometimes its difficult getting into a game of similar level players. Theres always one or two players much better than the rest, which can get frustrating.

The weapon selection is OK, but some of the weapons are just plain stupid (the sapper!). Other weapons are great, if you can find ammo. That is a continual problem in the game... finding ammo for the gun you really want to use. You pick up the hailstorm, but then you cant find ammo for two levels! You get the rocket launcher, but only a couple shells.

Overall a great game, probably one of the best out for PS3 so far. If you buy this game, make sure you try the online play, its one of the best features.
best shooter for PS3     On: 2009-05-11

I have to say I have never been a fan of playing FPS games on consoles. When this got down to $20 I figured I would give it a try. It is a fun game to play, and the story is interesting. It was good enough, I am going to get the sequel.

Coop with a friend is a blast, and most of the boss fights are bit easier, even though ammo is a bit short with two players. My big tip when playing with a friend is to remember to say "fire in the hole" whenever you toss a grenade.
A really terrific game.     On: 2009-05-06

1.) Story - The premise is that World War 2 never happened and Russia was wiped-out by a horrible virus in the late 1940s that mutates its victims into monsters called Chimera. It stays contained in Russia for a few years before the mutant army finally breaks out and sweeps across Europe, eventually burrowing under the English Channel and taking over the UK. Those who survive are scattered around a few military bases and fight a losing battle to resist their invaders. In 1951 America sends aid to the British. Among the soldiers sent is Nathan Hale. As he fights the Chimera all other Americans are killed or turned into Chimera and Hale is infected with the virus. But, unlike the others, Hale seems to have a innate resistance to the virus, allowing him to remain human while having some Chimeran abilities, like regenerating health. He joins the British resistance and continues fighting.

The story is good throughout, although nothing in it will really shock anyone. But it does a great job of making you feel like you are in the middle of an epic war. Most of the soldiers you come across remain nameless faces and have little to say and are of little importance, but you do get to know a couple of other characters. One is Rachael Parker, a Captain with British Intelligence who also narrates the story during cutscenes and gives you help over the radio during missions, and Lieutenant Stephen Cartwright who is in charge of the surviving Royal Marines. While you dont learn much about their backstories, you do learn about them as people through Parkers narration and Cartwrights comments while you are on missions with him, and both are likable and you really care about what happens to them and their country.

On the other hand, you dont really learn anything at all about Hale and he barely ever speaks. This could be a good thing or bad thing depending on your preferences. If you like to imagine yourself as the player character, his lack of speech and backstory can help you feel more like you are in his shoes, while those who prefer fleshed-out main protagonists will be disappointed.

The cutscenes are narrated by Parker at some point after the events of the game as she recounts the battles and her experiences with Hale. While there is some animation in some of the cutscenes, the majority of them are done in the style of a Ken Burns documentary, where the camera zooms in and out of and pans across still photographs and documents as Parker tells her story. I think this is a great way to set mood and atmosphere, as it has the feel of a World War 2 documentary. However, technology junkies who want to see nothing but High Definition CG for the entire duration of a cutscene will not be pleased.

2.) Gameplay (single player) - One of the most impressive things about the single player campaign is how long it is. In an age where youre lucky if the single player part of an FPS lasts 10 hours, it is great to get a campaign that has 30 chapters. Time needed to comlete will depend mostly on the difficulty level you choose and whether or not you spend time searching every inch of a level for intel documents. It shouldnt take anyone more than 20 hours unless you are a newcomer to FPS games.

The levels are pretty diverse in appearance. Some have you fighting in old english towns, some have you out in grassy fields, and some are in deep underground tunnels.

Enemy AI in this game is really good. They aim well and will try flanking you and flush you out with grenades. My only gripe is that they are oblivious to any grenades you through at them, making them easy targets when in a group.

Ally AI is better than in most games, but not as good as the chimera. But that is to be expected. If your ally AI was as good as the enemy, then there wouldnt be much of a challenge here for the player.

The weapons in this game are another one of its great features. You have some pretty basic human ones like an assault rifle, shotgun and frag grenade, but you can use chimeran weapons too. These are more creative and fun. One big example is the Auger, which can go through walls and cover and gets more powerful as it goes through more stuff before hitting its target. Of course its not as much fun when the chimera are using it against you...and then there is the human-made Sapper. It is a gun that shoots out these slimy orbs of organic matter that stick to any surface and act as mines that will only hurt the chimera.

And all weapons excpet grenades have an alternate fire function. Some of pretty standard like a grenade launcher on the assault rifle or shooting both barrels at once on the shotgun. But others are more creative and fun, like being able to stop a rocket from the rocket launcher in mid-air to re-adjust its direction or the Auger putting up a barrier that blocks everything except Auger shots. Realism buffs will be disgusted, people who just want to have a good time will be thrilled. And, unlike most FPS games these days, Resistance lets you carry all the weapons you find, never forcing you to decide which guns to part with and which to keep.

Also, certain weapons can not be used during your first playthrough of the campaign, but are unlocked after you beat it once and are available for your second playthrough.

Intel documents are manila folders spread throughout the levels that contain things like reports, photos, and military orders that give you little tid bits of extra info that help you understand the finer details of the conflict, and the existance of an odd group of humans who also seem to have a resistance to the virus called the Cloven.....

In addition to intel documents, there are also lots of Skill Points that you can achieve in the levels. Basically, these are just like achievements on Xbox 360 games excpet they dont get added to a gamer score total or put on a leader board. You can go to the Skill Points section of the menu and see a huge list of Skill Points and each will have a cryptic title that gives you a hint at how to earn it. One example is "Reading is Fun", which you get for picking up at least 10 Intel Documents. You get points for completing a Skill Point and as you earn more points, you unlock bonus content in the game, like behind the scenes movies about how the game was made.

And while you do spend most of the time on foot, you do get to control vehicles during the campaign. These range from tanks, to jeeps, and even some Chimeran vehicles. Each has its own feel along with pros and cons to balance stuff out.

3.) Gameplay (multiplayer) - Multiplayer is alot of fun, mostly because of the weapons in the game. You have your basic modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag. But you also have some more creative ones like Conversion which is basically "last man standing" but instead of just being out of the game after dying once, you come back after your death as a chimera.

For these multiplayer games, you can choose to be human or chimera and each has their own unique abilities. Humans have a radar screen whereas chimera can see enemies through objects. But, chimera are also bigger and make easier targets than humans. These kind of differences really make it fun to experiment with the different sides.

Also you can earn medals for accomplishing things in multiplayer such as killing an enemy from behind with a melee attack. And there are also new pieces of equipment and clothing you can unlock to customize your character model.

And something I almost forgot. You can play through the single player campaign cooperatively with others. This is a great option for players who like to tear it up with friends instead of by themselves.

4.) Controls - You can customize what every button on your controller does to suit your own needs and analogue stick sensitivity can be adjusted. However, the pre-programmed button settings are easy to get used to. Also, the response time of the analogue sticks is super fast and there is virtually no dead zone, unlike Killzone 2. So controlling your character in campaign or multiplayer is a breeze and not a drag.

5.) Graphics - The graphics in this game are not easy to sum up. They look better than anything from the last-generation systems, but they are not the most impressive available for this generation. That DOES NOT mean they are bad by any stretch of the imagination. However, what people should realize is that while the graphics may not be as detailed as they could have been (remember, this was also a launch title for the PS3 which means less time than usual to make the game) what you lose in detail you gain in speed. Very often you will be in a huge battle with 40+ allies and enemies fighting each other, the AI is chewing up processor speed, explosions are everywhere, and yet there is never any noticable slow-down, frame-rate drop, or glitches. What you lose in detail you gain in smooth, fast rendering and lack of slowdown. This is even true in multiplayer matches with 40 people.

6.) Sound - Sound effects of all kinds are excellent. Voice acting is also very good. However, there are times where you will be recieving instructions over the radio of what to do, but you cant hear it for all the explosions and the comments your allies are making. This can be a bit frustrating at times.

And while there is not too much music in the game, what is there fits the mood of every scene perfectly and never feels out of place.

Overall, this game is just flat out excellent. The controls are done right, the content is fun and there is lots of it, and it even has a good story for a FPS game. However, since Resistance 2 came out virtually nobody plays the multiplayer for this anymore. So that might be something for you to consider before buying.
Resistance: Fall of man     On: 2009-04-25

Have enjoyed this game from day 1. challenging and great one shooter game. If you are looking for some action jump on this
VEERY GOOD     On: 2009-04-14

I read some review of this game, saying it was dead hard to stop playing chapter after chapter once you start. I say its true.
Im a 25 y-o engineer who gets easily bored with a video game unless its very good. Resistance IS very good, close to excellent. Im playing it now, just got it a few days ago. The other night i played until late in the night, and when to sleep just for the idea that i had to get up early to keep playing. The story is very good. I keep wondering if in the end, hale will become an alien and join the chimeran forces, or will just become a super human but keep his own mind. Like any good book the game keeps you wondering, unveiling bits of the story as you play it through.

100% recommended.
Hype machine     On: 2009-04-08

Dont really see what all the hype is about this game. I mean, sure its a decent first person shooter but dont see why some people think its the greatest game ever....
Absolutely superb!     On: 2009-03-16

I am a grey haired chap who is rapidly approaching his sell by date. Over the years I have played many FPS on just about every platform that there is and I have to tell you that between 1993 and 2007 only two games have caused me fight fatigue and soldier on into the night to get to the next level. One was the original 1993 Doom and the other is R:FoM.

The strange thing is that there is nothing in particular that you can single out as being particularly unique about R:FoM but taken as a whole it just works, you really do want to get to the end of this street, you know that the elevator will deliver you to a world of pain and that over this rooftop lies madness. But what the hey its fun...

Overall good game play and story line that just begs you to finish...Highly recommended....
Great shooter for the PS3     On: 2009-03-10

Im sure everyones covered all the great things about this game but I just wanted to mention the controls. Im not a big fan of the Playstation controllers probably because Im just used to playin Xbox but I thought the controls in this game were very quick and responsive. Resistance felt the most comfortable Ive ever been on the Playstation 3, (for shooters anyway). Great game and fore [...] bucks its a steal.
Resistance: Fall of Man     On: 2009-03-09

After buying this game and playing it, I believe it has deserved to be a greatest hit. I usually dont play first person shooters that much (I know, Im a loser! lol) but the storyline really intrigued me. I like how during the cut scenes, there is a narration that makes you involved with the storyline and instead of other FPS where you just shoot things and there is really no storyline at all. The different environments are pretty cool and diverse but there are some that are kinda repetitive. I like how you can carry every gun that you get in the game instead of Resistance 2 where you are only limited to 2 guns you can carry at a time. The graphics are great but of course since it was one of the first games that was made for the PS3 there are games that have a lot better graphics (for example Resistance 2). The only thing I could think of as a downside would be no unlockables or extra content, once you beat the game that is pretty much it. I mostly play single player campaign so I have not tried out the online multiplayer yet. Overall, I think this game and its sequel Resistance 2 is definitely a series of games to get into because it was very fun and entertaining to play.
pretty cool FPS     On: 2009-03-07

Ive played many shooter games and this one is definitely in my top 5. The AI and zoom in are great as well as the different choices of weapons to choose from. You dont have to substitute one weapon for another unlike other shooters. Theres also a special gun in this game where you can shoot enemies through the walls but they can also do the same thing to you which makes it even more challenging.
A typical but fun FPS     On: 2009-03-07

Im not going to describe the story of this game since thats been done in plenty of other reviews.

Anyone whos played a few FPSs or is an FPS veteran wont feel anything new with this game. Although there is one or two unique weapons in this game it still feels like any other shooter. That being said, I still enjoyed this game and I enjoy shooting at creatures instead of humans.

It seems Insomniac studios was still getting the hang of utilizing the ps3s hardware as the graphics in this game werent eye dropping. Theyve obviously learned alot about the ps3s hardware since than with games like Ratchet and clank future: TOD and Resistance 2.

As far as gameplay goes, I have no gripes. Controls were responsive as they should be with any game and I didnt notice any glitches or other factors that would negatively affect gameplay.
Resistance     On: 2009-02-21

The game play is outstanding. I really enjoyed playing this game. I am looking forward to playing the sequel.
Well done game     On: 2009-02-10

Everything about this game is great, the gameplay, graphics, controls, story. I suggest not skipping this for Resistance 2... this can be considered a better game, and its cheaper!

There is a lot of variety in the guns and the landscapes, and the enemies have mild variety. Its a very good shooter.
Great Game!     On: 2009-02-09

Resistance successfully combines many of the best qualities from other great first-person shooters with spectacular visuals and a few novel twists.
A long, intense thrill-ride.     On: 2009-02-01

This game was great, but a little to long and dark. The game was fun, still, but you kept expecting it to be the last level, but its not. Now that Resistance 2 is out, some people already know a great deal of the plot, but that didnt stop me. I dug deep and beat this game, and believe me, you need to play this game before you play Resistance 2.
Very entertaining     On: 2009-01-25

Resistance is a shooter game which reminded me of Doom. Graphics and storyline are good. The game has a good progression, with every new chapter bringing new enemies that you have to figure out how to defeat. The game is expanded to included chapters where you drive tanks and machines from the enemy. Its not a hard game to beat, but it takes some time, so its a good buy.
Great game     On: 2009-01-24

Dont want to repeat what all the others said, but only have a few comments.

The game is pretty easy through most of it, but somehow about three levels to the end, it becomes very, very difficult. And now Im stuck at the last level and cannot finish the game.
Good game for the Playstation 3     On: 2009-01-21

I miss him a bit more improvement in graphics, of course it could be improved, but still, looks great.

Love it Mann!     On: 2009-01-12

I enjoyed this game from start to finish. I found it very easy to get used too and was a lot of fun to play. My wife even found it entertaining to watch me play it. Even the on line play is smoothe and fun, and a couple of folks I work with have gotten this and we play online together sometimes. Overall great game, now I have to try out the sequal.....
Resistance: Fall of Man     On: 2009-01-10

This is a great game, well deserving of a sequel. The various weapons have different strengths, which will have to be used to survive the various encounters. Im finishing hard mode now and cant wait to get Resistance 2.
Great.     On: 2009-01-10

This is an amazing game, easily as good as Halo. No point in me saying to much when other reviewers said it so good: Hard to resist, Resistance Fall of Man.
Terrible game....     On: 2009-01-09

If youve played any of the Call Of Duty games, (or nearly any other first-person shooter out) this game just cant hang. The graphics are so..so.. and the game itself is about as much fun as watching a mouse on its spinning wheel. Id rate this game below 1 star if I could. What a dissapointment.
Mind Blowing Goodness     On: 2009-01-09

the game is great multiplayer also is. A great first game for ps3 owner. as soon as i am finish resistance 1 i am going for 2. wish there was a little more story back ground.my psn is DJKLOVER14
Not That Fun     On: 2009-01-08

Suitability for younger players?     On: 2009-01-03

There are many excellent reviews already posted, but perhaps the one thing I can add is the suitability of the game for younger audiences. There are two sides to the question... first is the content suitable, and second, is the gameplay reasonable?

As for content, I would say its mostly suitable. The game is constant action (a.k.a. violence) from start to finish. This is a first person WWII shooter with alien creatures replacing the German soldiers. There are cut scenes that show humans being converted into the Chimera army, but they arent particularly disturbing or gory. The language is also pretty tame with very few curse words. There is no nudity, drugs, or sexual content. The music and sound effects are not startling or spooky, and so the game plays more of as a "war combat" game than a "monster hunting" game (e.g. comparable to the HALO games).

As for gameplay, the game is readily handled by younger players. My 7 year old son took the controls within a couple of minutes, and was playing cooperatively with me firing machine guns and launching grenades. We spoke candidly about the content - he especially hates bad language and scary things - but he indicated that this game didnt make him uncomfortable. That said, I only let him play when we are playing cooperatively as two soldiers out saving the world from the evil Chimera.

Hope this helps if youre trying to decide about purchasing the game for a younger player.

Written by Arthur Bradley, author of "Process of Elimination" - a thriller that pits a martial artist against a world-class sniper out to shape the Presidential election.

As always, please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.
Great FPS     On: 2008-12-28

This was one of my first FPS(First Person Shooter) and it was a great intro to the genre. The graphics are great and so is the story. The difficulty can be set to your liking and all the difficulty settings are good, easy is easy for new comers and hard for the veterans. There is a co-op mode so two people on the same screen and the online game is great.
Hard to Resist, Even harder to put down     On: 2008-12-27

The year is 1951. World War 2? Whats that? World War 2 never happened, instead, A nefarious race of creatures known as the Chimera have conquered all of Europe, and can take the North Americas in a matter of days. This could be the very end of all humanity. We must fight back, we must resist.

Youll be strapping into the boots of Nathan Hale, a United States soldier who is one of many sent to Britain to aid their allies. While in Britain, you are infected with the Chimera virus, but not killed. The narrator refers to Hales eyes multiple times, and how they are golden and subtle. Playing as a figurative "Walking dead" is an interesting idea, and sports you regenerating health. While Hale is immune to the virus, how long will it last?

You absolutely cannot review this game without mentioning the weapons. Insomniac Games (Creators of the hit series "Ratchet and Clank") have not only thought outside the box with these weapons, they have completely obliterated it. You have the typical M2A2 Carbine, nothing new there. But think of how drastically combat can change when you or your enemy can fire straight through your cover and destroy almost any tactical plan you may have had. I wont say much more about the weapons, you just have to experience them for yourself.

The graphics have aged (Since this was a launch title for the PS3 after all) but the unique art style and use of colors is to be commemorated. Youll find alot of Grey and white environments, and just out of nowhere, a bright chorus of red or blue light. The reason why this works, is that it really feels out of place (Much like the Chimera invasion.) The Chimera themselves also look fantastic. Insomniac has paid definitive attention to detail, as every object has a meaning. Cars that are rusted look like they are actually rusted, and you can even blow apart tubes on the Chimeras coolant tanks (Located on their backs) and watch the steam escapse from them.

You get a hopeless ambience from playing this. As the back of the box says, every death for you, is a gain for them. This truly is humanitys last stand, and everything is at stake.

This game will keep you hooked from the very beginning to the very end. Be sure to take a stroll through Manchester, just try not to get killed.
Must Buy for P$3     On: 2008-12-23

This is a really fun game, and playing online is fun. It is sweet how you can blow aliens heads off. I think by the end of the P$3s lifetime, this would become one of the classics along with R2(sequel), MGS4,GTA4,and Gran turismo 5
good game     On: 2008-12-22

Good game. After seeing how awesome resistance 2s commercial was, I decided to get the first game and beat that before getting the 2nd. Im glad I did..and at 19.00 from Amazon..how could I go wrong?
The game reminded me a lot of Halo meets the Borg. It did have a good storyline that keeps you quite entertained. If you have never played the resistance games...get it. Lots and lots of alien carcasses accumulate in this one.
Great Game     On: 2008-12-20

This was a great game. Loved it. The coop is really fun and the story overall is unique.
EXCELLENT GAME, MUST HAVE     On: 2008-12-10

With all the great reviews there is not much to say. I ve been playing this game for two days non stop, everything about this game is worth every dollar, the story is great, the graphics are jaw dropping, I would love it to have full HD, but I can live with that.

Cheers

BANG BANG YOURE DEAD
Good game     On: 2008-12-08

I thought that Resistance was a good game. It worked well for one of the no-name to Big name games that the PS3 needs for its lineup, and I can see why. It reminds me of a cross between some weird Half-life game and Call of Duty (probably why it did so well).
Usually I only play FPS on my computer cause I like the feel of aiming with a mouse over a control stick, however this did not stop me from trying this game out.
A great storyline, and the graphics are well done. I would suggest this for anyone who wants to test out a FPS on the PS3 without the usual COD and other games.
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce Nathan Hale.     On: 2008-11-30

Chimeran have invaded Russia and Europe, the US has been called to help fight this threat, the world is at a standstill as this unknown alien super-force continues to kill and destroy - oh, and was it mentioned that this is happening in 1941 instead of WWII? Introducing "Resistance: Fall of Man", Sonys launch title for their PS3 release, and subsequently the game I decided to start with upon purchasing my system - why not begin at the beginning, right? Having been an enormous fan of the early FPS game, "Goldeneye" for the Nintendo 64, games of this nature have always been close to my heart. The "Halo" series has received mixed reviews in my eyes, with mediocre game-play, and repetitive storylines - so "Resistance" needed to bring its best game forward, and honestly it wasnt bad - could have been worse, could have been better - but overall the beginning of a long friendship between myself and my PS3.

STORY:
This was probably the weakest area for this game. While it was obvious that Sony was just testing the waters for what their system could produce gaming-wise, there was an air of conservatism with "Resistance". The faded black-and-white pictures between the game-play instead of full length CGI-cuts, seemed cheap. While the story was follow-able and lengthy, the detail seemed to be missing. Absolutely, the images were stunning (which will be discussed in the graphics portion), but there needed to be something more. Nathan Hale, our hero, seemed lifeless. His role was random at best, merely being a random soldier plucked out of many to have a genetic anomaly to the Chimeran disease. One hopes his changes are what future releases develop further, instead of just accepting it with ease like this game did. Our sideline characters had more soul, Lt. Cartwright especially, who I would have preferred to play instead of Hale. Again, this is the biggest complaint I have with this game - I didnt expect full-blown character development for a FPS, but something would have been better than nothing.

GRAPHICS:
Amazing, to say the least. Using the full capability of my HDTV and my PS3, this jumped me direct into the action. Detail upon detail was laid before you, allowing the player to fully submerge himself into the environment. This was a world where enemies react to your movement, and it was great to finally be able to have an equal playing ground. While the cut scenes were minimal at best, it was the in-game experience that demonstrated the raw power of the PS3, as well as the technology surrounding it. This was a great foundation for the beginning of PS3, and now with the release of "Resistance 2", I am eager to see how they have grown.

SOUND:
Bullets everywhere. The sound of terror behind you, the impact of the explosion in front, while hearing dogs howl in the background and the scream of your comrades was intense. This is a game that needs to be played without the lights on and with your surround sound turned all the way up. This isnt a horror game, but element (if you allow it) will make you jump and react. It uses not just your sight, but also your ability to hear where your enemies are coming from, making the full-spectrum of game-play intense. Combined with the great graphics, this made a simple game into a blockbuster.

REPLAY:
Can it be played again and again? For me - no. I saw the ending, I went through two campaigns, unlocked the further weaponry, but after two finishing moments, I was done. That is not to say that the online ability isnt worth owning the game, but if you are lacking the online ability - this was a lengthy game that was incredible the first time, substantial the second time, but ready to be put down for the third time.

Overall, I enjoyed playing this game. While there may have been some repetition to the game, and honestly no really big boss to defeat, this FPS was a great introduction to the Sonys Playstation 3 and its hardware. From the graphics to the sound, this game was perfect - where it lacked was the actual story and repeatability of the game. Perhaps in two years I could pick this game up again, or if there were a gaggle of friends about to arrive - this game would be perfect. It was a strong foundation for the console and I eagerly anticipate both the sequel as well as the other genres that Sony is going to explore.

Bravo Sony, Bravo!

Grade: **** out of *****

Not the best, but pretty good     On: 2008-11-25

Just got done playing it and I have to say for the most part I really enjoyed the game.

Pros:
-nonstop action 80% of the time
-alot of the action is team based (though theyre more fodder than anything)
-final boss isnt rediculous
-recharging one quarter of your life helps ALOT

Cons:
-The "bloom" effect can be really annoying during certain levels. Blurry anyone?
-No way of knowing when a level is going to end (at least couldve auto-grabbed all the ammo nearby), especially annoying in the later levels
-Sometimes during sniping the crosshair will go red to indicate an enemy in your sights, but when you shoot close to the edge of said enemy, you hit nothing. annoying when you only get 12 shots with the rifle.
-First level was rediculously hard (on medium) considering its your first time playing.

Other thoughts:
This game is definatly worth at least a once-through. I have a spitfish FragX controller that has an imperfect mouse attached to it so it was easier for me to do the FPS thing especially coming from PC gaming. If youre not used to console FPS, stick with easy difficulty. I still found it challenging at times. Took me about 10 hours.
We are the final resistance     On: 2008-11-23

This will be a short but to-the-point review.

I am an avid gamer, been playing video games for awhile now and I have to say that Im really enjoying this game (more than halfway through it).

First the visuals are spectacular, you can move or break most objects, there are at times MANY enemies and friendlies on screen and it has never bogged down.

The gameplay is fantastic, the controls are tight but accurate. I loved the way you could aim by pressing L3, it makes for very precise shots.
Weapons are epic, ranging from standard US military to advanced chimeran weapons, you will be eager to advance in campaign mode just so you could find out what weapon theyll think of next!!!

Sound is great too, I can hear various bullets whirring around me in my home theater system. So for you audiophiles this game makes the cut!

Overall I would highly recommend this shooter to anyone looking for a fast-paced action game with a solid story. Thanks insomniac, for bringing us this excellent game!
Pretty good for a launch title     On: 2008-11-23

I just got this game in October. As such, Im aware it was two years behind its release date and not as much of a groundbreaking title anymore. I wanted to play through it and get ready for Resistance 2, but somehow I never really got into it. I played through most of the game in a week, but my attention sort of waned (especially when the going got tough) and I pushed it aside for LittleBigPlanet.

To be honest, I never tried the online multiplayer or a lot of the other features, just the story. I thought it was a well-crafted one, but the controls (unintuitive at best) and mindless enemies/allies sort of ruin it.

I gave it 4 stars because it is a fun game to play, and maybe I just dont like it as much because I should have bought it in 06. Either way, getting it for less than $30 is a bargain, and its a good enough game to pick up if you like shooters.
Repetitive, boring, nothing new     On: 2008-11-20

I guess I should not have bought this so soon after beating Biosphere. Got it for $19.99 so it is not a BIG loss. It has no depth and is pretty uninteresting after the first few hours of play. It rapidly becomes just "same ol....same ol".

Can anyone recommend a FPS that really shows off the PS3???
Resistance is Futile     On: 2008-11-16

Ok...... Ill be honest. I am NOT an FPS fan. In fact to be honest, I have played only a handful of FPS games (Bioshock, Doom 3, Bad Company,) and several demos for other FPS games.

That being said........BUY THIS GAME!

I will spare you a huge description of plot, Lord knows there are plenty other reviews out there which go in to it. But I will say it is the plot that truly draws you in and goes for the jugular at first with a bit of mystery then erupts in to a full-out action story. With casual gaming I beat this game about 4 days. Not to say the game is small, but when I did sit down I was going through two or three or more missions at a sitting. And now I have upped the difficulty and going at it again.

The weapons are mostly typical from many FPS games out there with one or two really fun weapons to use......the Auger comes to mind. There are also additional weapons for you to use once you beat the game for your other run throughs.

THe multiplay, at least offline, seems rather cookie cutter of other offline multiplays with other FPS games. This is not to say its not fun. It is, and a nice touch is the customizable map size. Although for me, I like the large maps to make it less a brawl and more a game of cat and mouse.

In short, if you like FPS games, I have a feeling this game is for you. If you dont like FPS games, at least rent it. But at this price.........buy it. I have gotten a lot less out of 20 bucks........a lot less out of 50 now that I think of it. This game has redefined what I have come to expect from FPS games and may very well open the door to me buying others.......specifically Resistance 2.
I am sure great for its time     On: 2008-11-12

I bought this game for two reasons: to understand RFOM 2, and it was on sale for $20. The game has been out for a while, sure, but I was a little disappointed. Let us do a quick comparison. Gears of War came out a week before FOM, but is a far superior game. I wont go into it much but just play the two. The graphics for FOM just feel like an original Xbox or PS2 title. There is hardly a physics engine, no world damage. Try throwing a grenade or shoot a rocket accurately. Usually way to far then one would think. Enemies are quite boring, they hide, pop out, hide; very predictable. Weapons are decent, i like secondary fire and new concepts (time shifting sniper rifle), though ammo is everywhere, as well as health. I rarely ran out of ammo, not a good thing. Think, Bioshock; ammo is rare, and you usually need a lot of it. FOM 2 should be a huge improvement over the first title, something I am really looking forward to.
Awesome! ! !     On: 2008-11-02

I bought this game recently, and even if it is one of the first games to hit the PS3, its one of the better looking, most entertaining games on the I own right now. I got so hooked up on it I had to pre-order Resistance 2. A must buy! ! !
Old School FPS with a great storyline     On: 2008-10-26

This is an Old school style FPS with obvious upgrades thanx to the technology behind the PS3. Commands and movements would feel really familiar to experienced gamers. I believe they should make some upgrades to the motor that controls the character movements and work some more in the AI for enemies. I hope Resistance 2 to be a little more solid on this aspects.

Anyway the game is really good, loads of fun and have a great story line.
Scenarios could be tad boring cause they are all very similar I can`t see the difference between London and Oxford other than the snow LOL.

The game pays itself for the multiplayer option so go for it you wont regret it, its already a PS3 classic and goes for a decent price!

Good game. Fun. Typical FPS.     On: 2008-10-24

Resistance seemed like a remake of Killzone with different enemies. Combat gets a bit repetitive as in most FPS. I waited til the price dropped because the game is not worth $60. Ill probably do the same with Resistance 2. Its a good game, great graphics, very simple gameplay, shoot em up, blow em up, dont die, and save the world. Storyline is worth getting into. Replayability is nonexistant and multiplayer is completely terrible compared to games like Call of Duty 4 and Battlefield.
OMG GOOD     On: 2008-10-15

Ive owned a PS3 since launch but never played this game until recently. I have played the best; Farcry, Call of duty, Crysis FEAR, etc. I was never really interested in playing a console fsp, prefered them on pc. Was in GameStop the other day and decided that 30 dollars was not bad for a game ive heard so much good stuff about. Poped it in my ps3. (yawn). It began like anyother fsp game (yawn). But i noticed something. It was becoming more thrilling and exciting by the minute. I have now been officially hooked. If you like fsp this game should not be missed. Its one of the most engrossing and captivating game on any system. Period.
XBOX 360 player coming to Resistance for the first time     On: 2008-10-13

My kid got a PS3 thats been sitting idle. We got it to replace a Wii that we sold, that was also sitting idle.

I talked him in to letting me move it into my media room so that it might get some play--in Hi Def, no less. So he did.

Resistance has always been a game that looked interesting. Id played the demo and didnt quite get it, but at $29.00 I couldnt pass it up.

I will say its a fun game. Lots of guns, fast paced action. Lots of enemies on screen at one time. The look has been criticized for being too "sepia toned" but I thought it was OK. It is NOT a showcase for the graphical power of the PS3--thing more Call of Duty 2 on the 360, which was also a launch title. This does not leave the same impression that, say Gears of War did with me. But Gears wasnt a launch title.

I havent played multiplayer yet but the single player is lengthy and I must say Im moderately interested in the story. Nathan Hale--is he going to turn? I cant wait to find out.

I dont think game is worth 60 bucks--not at this point. But it is a solid buyat $30 bucks--and its available only for the PS3, which, in my estimation, is sorely lacking in quality shooter exclusives. So this ranks as a "must buy" at 30 bucks for PS3 owners. And its enough to make me think Resistance 2 will be insane.

This franchise--and not the cut-scene heavy Metal Gear Solid, is what the PS3 needs.

Good FPS     On: 2008-10-13

I own both systems (360/PS3) and for the ps3 this is a good shooter now about $25-$30 new. Comparable to halo 3 but lacks the graphics of Uncharted and Gears of War. You assume the role of an American fighting an alien menace in England. Controls are very smooth and intuitive no tutorial needed. Resistance is now two years old but for the price you cant go wrong if you like keeping the world free from aliens.
A great FPS! (coming from someone who doesn't play FPS!)     On: 2008-10-12

I ordered my PS3 with Oblivion. Unfortunately, the PS3 came a couple days before Oblivion did... so I needed something to play with. I heard a lot of noise about how great this game was, and since it was a greatest hits, I picked it up from the local Target for about $40. Normally, I dont play FPS games due to lack of skill. This one caught my attention immediately, however! Once you get through the first part of the game, it gets a little easier. Its fast paced and has a wonderful story. I really recommend this title to anyone that owns a PS3! Im even planning to buy the sequel!
Amazing!     On: 2008-10-11

A truly magnificent game for the ps3. Some of its levels are harder and more confined than other, but overall the levels are excellent and very well animated. The weapons are varied and exotic in the fashion that you can switch from shooting with a machine gun to a flame flower and then to exploding blogs. Over all this game is LOUDER, FASTER, and MEANER than Gears of War or any other games before it.
The Best FPS for PS3!     On: 2008-10-03

If FPS is the game that you like, get this one, one of the fps game for PS3!
Blast!     On: 2008-10-03

This game was a blast to play! The graphics are ok. Not the best weve seen on PS3 games, but for an exclusive title, this one really hits the mark. A must have!
Cartoon + irritating controls     On: 2008-09-29

Not so fun. Not worth until gets to $10, then it will be fine. Cartoony. Weird controls. Save your money up and buy Rainbow 6, Call of Duty 4, or Halo.
One of the coolest launch games in a longtime.     On: 2008-09-27

The game tells the story of Nathan hale,it take place in the 1950s and instead of WW2 a race of creatures know as the Chimera have destroyed Russia and pretty much all of europe and its up to Hale and a group of rag tag soldiers to put a end to it.

Gameplay

At first you might think the game is your typical WW2 shooter but after playing the first few stages youll see its not.The thing that really puts the game apart from other shooters is tha great selection of crazy weapons you get along the way,You get everything from the normal shotgun and Machinegun and even the rocket launcher but you also get some crazy stuff like the Auger which fires threw walls and can put up a shield that helps you dodge on coming fire and the hailstorm which fires little bolts everywhere and one of my favorites is the hedgehog granade which shoots spikes all over the place.

The A.I in the game for the most part is pretty solid the Chimera and your soldiers do a great job of taking cover and flank each other and they just do a great job of trying not to die.The Chimera also get more advance weapons and gear later in the game and put up a very good challenge.

The game engine can also throws a lot of enemys and objects on the screen all at once, theres times when you are facing all sorts of Chimeras at once plus theres all sorts of crazy stuff going on in the background like tanks blowing things up and these massive spider robots walking around.

The game also has a great Multiplayer that you can have matches to up to 40 people and the game plays very smooth and the modes are pretty cool like capture the Flag and Death Match and also Meltdown(its just like nodes from Ratchet and Clank).

Graphics

One thing that a video game company that is making a launch game they want to make sure it looks great and shows you what the console can do.The N64 had Mario64 and Waverace and the Dreamcast had Soul Caliber and the Xbox had Halo and now the PS3 has Resistance and it looks great, like I said earlier the game has a crazy art style if I had to put my finger on it I would say it reminds me of the combine world in Halflife 2 and the For runner tech from the Halo series but thrown into Europe in the 1950s.

The game also has a nice little thing for small detail like little blades of grass moving in the wind, pieces of trash flying around and the lighting in the game looks sick two.But the best thing for me is the game always runs smooth and never drops a beat even when things get crazy and theres all sorts of moments when the game gets crazy.

Sound

The game also has some very nice voice work and the soundtrack is also well done. The Chimera also sound pretty cool.Oh yeah if you have a great set of speakers or a great system you are in for a treat.

Final thought

The game is so much fun the only thing that I would complain about would be the health system and the check points both just felt kind of dated to me,at times theres not enough check points and the health system is based off of health packs and sometimes you just dont get enough of them. But besides those two things the game is a killer app all the way and is by far the best Shooter to come from a Sony studio and to grace a Playstaion platform.

Well go buy the game if you have not now its 29.99 and man I cant wait to see what they will do with Resistance 2 Hugh boss fights 64 players online and 8 player online campaine its going to be epic.

Excellent Game     On: 2008-09-25

What a great game! The graphics are great and the storyline is engaging. The best part of the game though is the guns. WOW! The weapons are excellent and your only hope against the endless waves of enemies with excellent AI. They actually form defensive positions and duck-and-fire. I love the secondary abilities of the guns; they make it that much more fun. I loved Halo, but this game is right up there for me.
RESIST NOT     On: 2008-09-19

Resistance:Fall of man is one of those games that can go either way.On one hand the levels are "extremely" short.I myself was nervous about rounding the next corner in fear that the level I started only 5 minutes earlier would end, this can prove very distracting. On the other hand there is an interesting story backed up by some unique enemies and weaponry,as is Insomniacs custom.Graphically, though not "Call of Duty 4",this game looks amazing with every environment packed with eye candy.Plenty of enemy and weapon variety, intelligent A.I. and highly customizable multiplayer which supports up to 40 players will keep you and friends coming back for more. With the announcement that Resistance 2 will abandon its photograph/third person narration storyline,3 minute levels, introduce boss fights and highly imrpoved graphics,it is clear that this series is going to go far.Bottom line, though not without its flaws,Resistance delivers a fresh and enjoyable experience not often found in games. With a $27 price tag and an excellent story,I enjoyed Resistance:Fall of Man and I hope you will as well.
My favorite FPS game     On: 2008-09-19

Great game play, Its fast and really easy to learn, on the 1st stage you can get up to it.
The story envolves you, its well planned and flows very nicely.
Game play modes are quite vast, you can play Story mode alone, or Cooperative with a 2nd player offline only. Multiplayer offline goes up to 4 players while Online you can play with a lot, i mean a LOT of players...my favorite mode in this game is Capture the Flag.
It has some unlockables and cheat inside game. Cant tell how many, but it has a lot...

Its a must Buy for every PS3 owner...
Over and out.

Good FPS     On: 2008-09-19

Its no wonder this FPS game made it into the "greatest hits" list. For its marked down price and playability, it a good addition to your PS3 collection. I would recommend it to anyone who likes FPS games.
Great game! But.........     On: 2008-09-18

This is a great game, i bought this a month ago when this come as an PS3 Greatest Hits, and, as far i know, this was one of the first games for the PS3.

Sometimes the graphics looks for a game of PS2, but, overall, this is a really good game.

The game also has great weapons, but, (Spoiler Warning), i would prefer that these are available since the first time you play. Maybe i play again when my Sony Bravia 1080P arrives.

From now, i cant wait for Resistance 2.

Resistance: Fall of Man     On: 2008-09-17

As a launch title for the PS3, you can tell that Resistance:Fall of Man didnt quite harness the full potential of the PS3. But, that doesnt mean it isnt visually appealing. The gameplay is your standard First Person Shooter, but that doesnt detract from the fun value. The campaing mode will take you about 8 hours and is very engaging, with different and varied locales. There are also a wide range of weapons that can certainly change the tide of battle. Playing the single player campaign with a friend is fun, and the online multiplayer is vast and the most fun Ive had online ever. I recommend Resistance: Fall of Man to anyone with an itchy trigger finger and a Playstation 3
Not without its flaws, but great overall     On: 2008-09-17

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the FPS genre and its likely that if you arent either, then this game wont do anything to change your mind. That being said, R:FoM is far from being considered a bad game. Theres just nothing that really separates it from the endless stream of other shooting games that come out.

Graphics:
Considering this was a launch title for the PS3, the graphics are still quite good. Theres nothing groundbreaking about them, of course, and some things still have a bit of that "cartoonish" feel, but unless youre just looking for flaws in the graphics, you really wont feel one way or the other about them.

Gameplay:
If you like the FPS genre, then youll love this. Very little has changed from the main FPS formula and a lot of the weapon diversity can really make the game interesting. The problem (which isnt exclusive to this title, its the reason I dislike most FPS games) is that there is very little exploring. The game is extremely linear and there are NEVER two paths for you to take. Seriously. The sense of walking down a long corridor that eventually splits off into two paths only to have one path "conveniently" blocked off will become an all too familiar scenario for you by the end of the game. If this bothers you, it probably wont ruin the game completely (I still had fun with it, after all), but it can make the game kind of boring after a while. Youre essentially just running in a straight line and shooting whatever happens to get in your way.

Story: Its okay. Good for a shooter, mediocre for most other genres. A mysterious virus is taking over Europe during the mid-1900s and turning people into monsters. You assume the role of Nathan Hale, an individual who is infected by the virus, but, for an unknown reason, receives only the benefits and none of the detrimental side-effects (i.e. turning into a monster). Thus, you are thrown into the middle of the action to fight as the hope and saviour for all mankind.

Length and Replay Value:
Surprisingly, R:FoM is actually very long compared to most other FPS titles (around 20 hours). After you complete the game once, you unlock a few more weapons to use should you decide to play through the game a second time. R:FoM also supports offline and online multiplayer to add even more replay value.

Overall:
If you like FPS games, buy it.

If you dont like FPS games, its completely up to you. If you do buy the game, youll find that it can be quite fun at times and youll more-than-likely enjoy it. If you dont buy it, then you probably wont be missing out on much anyway. Personally, Id suggest renting it.
Best Game ever made     On: 2008-09-13

I dont have a long, lengthy review, but i would like to say that resistances multiplayer (still tons of people online) and campaign (amazing) equal the single greatest game that i have ever played. 10/10
Resistance     On: 2008-09-09

Amazon got the game on time im very pleased, i previously played the game from a friend i like to play online. thanks Amazon Ive recomended you to everybody i know. Till my next purchase. JP.
LOVED THIS GAME!     On: 2008-09-06

I loved playing this game. I enjoyed the fact that you can destroyed enything you want, and the explosions are very realistic.

The only thing I didt like is that you can only carry one gun at a time.
Best Game     On: 2008-09-06

This game is AMAZINGGGGG. There is so much fun packed into thuis game, from shooting and dodging fire from about fifty hybrids, to trying to hold off hudreds of leapers. Now for the inevitable, how is it compared to Halo. Well i have played Halo at a friends and i have to say Resistance owns it. To be frank alot of games are ,uch better. Resistance has alot of cool stuff, like alternate firing and crazy weapons. The setting is perfect and your heart will be pounding the entire game.
Worth it!     On: 2008-09-02

It was an an excellent game when it came out and it still is today! If you havent tried it yet, now is the time. Well worth the new lower price! Buy one for yourself and another for a friend. Im looking forward to Resistance 2 to come out now.
Resistance is just a mediocre game     On: 2008-09-01

So I finally got a ps3 off of craigslist for a good price and bought resistance off of amazon which shipped super fast as always. Right when I booted it up and saw the super ugly 90s style menu system I knew I was in for a dissapointment. The graphics are very subpar and the gameplay is just decent. Its still an ok game but just not what I was expecting since people were comparing it to halo3. Gears/halo3/cod4 all blow this game away and I really hate playing fpss with the ps3 controller after using the 360 controller. Im really looking forward to little big planet though and hopefully that will make my new system purchase worth it.
Fun shooter     On: 2008-08-29

The enemy AI in this game is great and allows for multiple playthroughs. There are a lot of weapons that can only be used after you beat the game once. Although the single/coop campaign is fun, the multiplayer online is kinda bland.
Spectacular     On: 2008-08-21

This is really a breakout game, the only reason I knock off one star is because it can be very frustrating at times. The AI is very good and the enemies can make you want to slam down the controller often. The game itself is 5 stars easily due to the large variety of weapons, intensity, large maps, and great storyline. Its very enjoyable to not simply fight the same monsters on every board, each level expands to include more powerful and more intelligent adversaries. The various grenades and rockets are a ball to blow things up with and the gore/violence is intense. Cant wait for Resistance II
One of the best shooters I've ever played     On: 2008-08-04

People constantly criticize this game because of the "ps2" graphics. Id like for one person to show me a ps2 game that can look and sound this good, while having this much action onscreen without any slowdown whatsoever. Insomniac is a brilliant development team, and their hard work shines through once again w/ Resistance.

This is not a "run and gun" type of shooter, and if you try to play without using cover or using strategy then youll die A LOT. Here are reasons why you should buy or at least rent Resistance:

- The gameplay is intense, but also strategic and encourages use of cover
- The AI is fairly smart when it comes to using cover and taking accurate shots
- The level design is creative and well thought out
- The guns are insane and very powerful
- The sound is superb
- The graphics, while not photorealistic like COD4, are very impressive and fit this "fantasy" world perfectly
- The environments feel alive - the grass and trees sway, debris blows around in the wind, etc
- The physics are decent and many objects in the environment are destructible
- The single player campaign is long and challenging, and very addictive
- The multiplayer is fun and addictive, plus the maps are huge

This is one of those games that I will sit and play for hours without even realizing it. Please ignore the people who are bashing this game...they either havent played it or simply judge games based on graphics alone. This game is fun, unique, and still very impressive almost 2 years after it was released. Highly recommended!! Plus its only $30 brand-new!!

Great game ....worth it     On: 2008-08-02

I have to say this game is worth it, great story and great online play.
Not a bad game     On: 2008-08-01

The game play at times can be very intense, and the graphics are pretty good considering this was one of the first games released with the PS3. This isnt a terribly difficult game unless you play in "Superhuman" mode which is only unlocked if beaten in hard mode. There are quite a few different guns you will get throughout the game some a lot better then others, and none of them difficult to control. Overall it was enjoyable, and would recommend it to anyone looking or a good first person shooter.
Awful     On: 2008-08-01

I found this game to be a huge dissapointment. All I heard about was how good the game was and gettin it started everything was so repetitive. Not to mention I felt like I was playing on the ps2 with those graphics. Do not waste your money on this game
An Amazing Look on History     On: 2008-07-31

Resistance Fall of Man is probably one of the most amazing action/sci fi/horror games to date. Its unique yet somewhat dissapointing story brings an edge to gameplay. Controls are moderately easy and clean. Graphics are better that ps1 and a little better yet very close to ps2. Levels are somewhat limited but extremely fun. The action is endless and altogether it comes out as beautiful and vivid masterpiece.
epic shooter, mature story.     On: 2008-06-23

The Chimera overrun continental Europe in February 1950, leaving very few survivors in resistance fall of man, we send our armies to aid europe on there homeland. You will find amazing large scale battles, in this gritty pull no punches FPS, arguably the best FPS on a next gen console story and gameplay wise, this was my first purchase with my ps3 80 gig console and i still play it, new weapons on your second play through make its replay value insanly high, also fun and addictive multiplayer mode, and resistance 2 will up the bar even further, this is one of my fav. games.
The BEST PS3 game so far.     On: 2008-06-13

This is THE best PS3 game so far. Much better than GTA4 and after playing MGS4 for 3 hours I think RFOM is much better than that too. RFOM game rooms online are still packed! Its June 2008 and this game has been out a long time and is STILLso much fun that yes, tons of people are still online! Its that fun!!! Anyone that doesnt own this game is missing out!!!!!

Maybe Resident Evil 5 will be better but nothing else is so far!

Still my favorite PS3 game to date     On: 2008-06-12

I got this game when I bought my ps3 on launch and have purchased close to 20 games since and this game still is by far my favorite. Ive played through the campaign several times but what really holds my interest is the online matches. I traded in my copy of Halo 3 after a few months cause it got old, but Resistance still keeps me wanting more... CANT WAIT FOR RESISTANCE 2!!!!!
Irresistable !!     On: 2008-06-12

Resistance has cool graphics, great sound, fast gameplay and a decent story.

If thats not enough, the gameplay and level design are excellent, its not likely that youll get lost or fail to trigger something.

Checkpoint placement is perfect, not so close that its all easy but not so far apart that you have to start a level over.

This is a great game which is enjoyable and fun to play whether single or multiplayer.

A must have for every PS3 owner !!!
I love this game     On: 2008-06-02

This game is awesome! My husband and I played it and we beat it 3 times. It is a great game to play with a partner or alone. If you want a 2 player campaign game this is the game to have any other game will be a disapointment compared to this one.
Horrible Game     On: 2008-05-26

I dont get the love for this game. "Lame" is what they should call it.
Unoriginal     On: 2008-05-20

First of all people who "dog" the game for its graphics should know better-it was released in 2006, which meant production likely began around 2005 or even 2004. Personally, I dont think there is that much discrepancy in RFOM than any other FPS. Like the plethora of many other FPS the tag lines and the basics are virtually similar as it was in Doom. We have our hero Nathan Hale a U.S. Soldier (Soldier...Hero...How Shocking), whose pitted against evil grotesque alien beings who just happen to have really, really, really, and I mean really sharp teeth. Did I also mention that these were ugly beings who wear latex and that sound very much like pist off chiwawas? Well... they do. Anyways, this is where the game gets really interesting and "complex," and that is you have to kill these alien beings named Chimerans. Yes you have to-there is no tricks, puzzles, or any sort of chicanery or challenges let alone any interaction within your environment-unless you call picking up intel reports as interaction-all you need is couple of grenades and your M5A2 Cabine to kick some Chimeran tail back to Russia!

Than there are those that argue that it has a great story line, but if it was that great or revolutionary wouldnt you at least have the hero talk??? Hale doesnt say a single thing and through out the game he has the expression of "what the hell I am doing here." Look, I wasnt expecting Duke Nukem, but a single word would of been copasetic. BOTTOM LINE replace the Chimerans with human soldiers and you have Medal of Honor or Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Maybe I am being close minded, but as an old-school-gamer it doesnt do much. The online gaming is great until it gets old. Take away the multi player aspect and what you have is something thats very banal.
Great     On: 2008-05-17

This is definately one of the better games i have played on the PS3, I recommend this game as one of my 5 top games. Its set up like a typical first person shooter and the gameplay is intense. Definately try it out!
Most unimpressive     On: 2008-05-14

Im glad I bought this used for $30 shipped. I was expecting much much more, based on all these glowing reviews. This is my first PS3 title, coming from a 360 rig. After playing through about 6 levels, I am sad to say that this game does nothing much for me. My favs are Halo, Rainbow Vegas 1&2, Ghost Recon, Gears of War, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, etc.. Other than the baddies jumping from side-to-side, avoiding your rounds, theres just not too much A.I. to work against. Maybe things will get more exciting as I move further into the game. Hope to find a better title so I can enjoy my new console more.
Good game.     On: 2008-05-13

Great PS3 game buy nothing compared to Gears Of War for Xbox 360. Campre the two and you will see why 360 is a better console..
Great game if bought used     On: 2008-05-09

This game is extremely fun, The online play has no lag, and the graphics quality is great. It requires little harddrive space. There are several multiplay maps. The single player mode takes a while to beat on medium levels and above, however the easy mode feels like a time trial where you can beat the game in less than acouple hours. I would only purchase this game used sence its been out for more than a year and can be bought so some places for 30 dollars that half price what it is new.
Overall a Great Game and Anxious for Next     On: 2008-04-28

Insomniacs, notorious for the Ratchet and Clank series, came out with a great game. This was one of the first games made available for the PS3 and thats pretty impressive for Insomniacs to manage to develop and release so quickly. They dont even take advantage of all the features, which means that when Resistance 2 comes out itll look/feel even better.

For those who arent familar with this title: Basically its an alternate timeline. Instead of WWII, something happened in Europe/Asia that could only be described as a possible alien invasion. Since the US was isolationist at the time, they stayed out but continued to develop. Which is why when you start the game you start with an M1 looking rifle, but has been upgraded with a Grenade Launcher (similar to the M203).

It doesnt take long before you come across some crazy weapons (Good ol Insomniacs wont let you down!): A sniper rifle that slows down time, a rocket launcher that will allow you to fire the rocket and then change its trajectory/speed, and of course, the aliens have some: a gun called the Bullseye that allows for you to "tag" someone and all subsequent shots will go to that location, or even a weapon that can fire through walls.

The gameplay is a lot of fun, whether you play co-op, or the single player campaign or you try your luck online. Theres a couple of map packs that were released not too long ago and the developers still issue patches/support for the game too.

For those that are familar with Ratchet and Clank, the "Skill Point" system is used here too. For instance: Kill a 4-legged animal-looking alien with a grenade and get the "Fetch" skill-point. Get enough of these to unlock added features. They also like to hide documents on each level for you to find (similar to R&C: Gold Bolts).

The online has its own rank system. Start off as Private and with points/kills gain XP and rank. Has a lot of interesting maps and of course: Deathmatch, Objective, etc. modes.
EXCELLENT!!!     On: 2008-04-17

Excellent game, co-op play is great.
My son and I cannot stop playing it.
Now lets kill Aliens     On: 2008-04-13

Well this game is good for people who "thinks" that aliens are bad foreign creatures who come to kill us all. After chinese people, japanese, rusians, and arabs.. now LETS KILL ALIENS. TAKE COVER E.T. you are next¡¡¡. thsi game has great graphics. great sound but is a TIPICAL FPS nothing new but GRAPHICS.
Give me more...     On: 2008-04-07

So I am new to the PS3 and playing games. My kids have really enjoyed Ratchet and Clank, but I wanted to try a shooter game, so I picked up RFOM. I got started and could hardly stop until I completed the game on easy. Going back through now to play on medium level. I am really looking forward to RFOM2 coming out the end of the year to continue the game as it leaves you hanging at the end. The audio was great, gameplay was super rockin, and the story was really cool. I have to agree with some other posts that the game could have been longer, but it was crazy fun from start to end. This game is a must have in your PS3 collection.
Rocks.     On: 2008-04-06

I knew this game was going to be good, but I also was assuming ti would at least be a little overrated like Gears of War was. It turns out the hype for this game was dead on. The game play is smooth and feels overall very solid. The variety in guns is great, and the developers payed a lot of attention to detail when making them. The alternative fires all have their uses. The aliens are big and ugly, making it all the more fun to shoot them. Using the Siaxis to throw them off of you occasionally is fun, and not overused. The graphics are usually very good, except for some textures, but there is a great amount of character detail. All the windows and most cover is destructible. The sound is fine but nothing special and the A.I. is a contender for the best Ive seen in a game. The campaign is pretty fun although somewhat predictable. The only complaints I have with this game is that the combat itself isnt very original and there are already a ton of FPS games out there, and its a shame to see a developer like this that is so good at plat formers move to shooters. If you have a Playstation 3, I highly recommend this game.
Good Game     On: 2008-04-06

Ok, until now I have been very impressed about PS3games. Resistance, I have just to finish and I think that it is good game, short game, just 2 weeks to finish because I work and could play few times on week, but if you play hard maybe you could get it in 1 day. I recommend it, but my opinion is for another release i.e. Resistance II could improve graphics, because other games such us Drakes Fortune,Burnout Paradise, etc, they have impressive graphics, likes real, ok I know they show several movies in the game but really real. Conclusion, I recommend you Resistance, good story and easy to game.

Wow     On: 2008-04-05

Insomniac has done it again the weapons are perfect the enemies are perfect everything is simply perfect.
Very impressive game!     On: 2008-03-30

So I bought a PS3 a few weeks back (more for its Blu-ray capabilities then anything else) However, im also a "casual gamer" and I was looking for a game to tide me over for a while. Did some reading around the web (including here) and decided to rent this game. I have to tell you, this game is phenomenal!!! it really shows off the capabilities of the PS3 for starters. WARNING: The multi-player mode is VERY addicting!! The multi-player option definitely has a high re-playability factor which makes it worth the price alone. I ended up buying this game with no buyers remorse. Something else id like to mention about the multi-player mode. When you first game online with people, you will realize quickly that it will take a little time to get good. There definitely is a moderate learning curve here. I was Pwned quite a few times LOL. Mostly because I was getting used to the maps and weapons. Dont let that discourage you though. There are always noobs that the experienced like to feed on. Enjoy!!!
classic     On: 2008-03-21

This game is excellent. The graphics are phenomenal - they show off the PS3 capabilities really well, for this point in its lifespan anyway. Shadows, textures, light/dark, faces, whatever - it all looks gorgeous. And the frame rate NEVER drops, even during epic battles filled with friends and foes, bullets whizzing by, and explosions all around. The enemies are reasonably intelligent, and most of the weapons differentiate themselves pretty well and lend themselves to different styles of play. And the voice acting is movie-quality.

I rented this game and beat it on medium in about 5 days, totalling maybe 20 hours, which is pretty good for an FPS this pretty. I didnt find all the optional intel reports or look up all the special achievements either - I mostly just played the game straight through. Each level/mission is seperated by a voiced-over cut scene that advances the story line, and the plot is pretty decent. The hero is likable, as is his supporting cast; I suppose hes more Master Chief than Gordan Freeman. Although maybe not quite as engaging as either.

Speaking of the classics, this game is right up there with them. My only complaint is that the story doesnt really resolve itself at the end, but I suppose thats because of the sequel coming out this fall (which you can be sure Ill be checking out). If you like FPSs, you cant go wrong with this one. Beautiful graphics, great play control, interesting story line, big guns, and good replay value.
Awesome for 2 players simultaneously     On: 2008-03-11

Admittedly, Im a newbie on FPS games for consoles. Ive been mostly playing on PCs. However, I was very impressed by this game in general, but most specifically for playing with a friend on a widescreen projector with surround sound.

Ive tried playing with a friend on Halo and a Gears of War (for Xbox) and REALLY dislike the way they split the screen. This game splits the game vertically and most others split the game horizontally. On a widescreen, you end up with two very wide and low games. Almost unplayable. This game gives you 2 quite reasonable almost square screens.

The atmospheric effects are very nice in surround sound (although I cant say Ive played enough with other games to compare).

Basically, if youre playing with 2 players simultaneously, this is a better game than other console FPS if for no other reason than how the screen is laid out. It gave me one of my better gaming experiences Ive ever had.
Pretty cool game     On: 2008-03-03

This is the first game that I bought for my PS3. The first part was pretty hard for me, and it seemed like there wasnt much to the game. As I got further along, I started having much more fun. Like when you get to drive the tank and blow the suckers up. This is a fun game to play.

As far as online play. I really suck, so far. I wish you could actually play the game in co-op mode online. They have a few types of online play. Death Match where everyone tries to kill each other. Thats mainly the one Ive played online, so far. There is team death match. They also have capture the flag. Where you have teams. There are a couple of other variations besides the ones I mentioned. There is a co-op mode on the game but its not for online play.

Its a pretty cool game. I think its fairly difficult, not super hard. You could change the game to "easy" mode. Id rather not.

4/5
Best introduction to the world of online.     On: 2008-02-24

This was my first ps3 game. This was my first online game ever. I was just amazed at all the feautures this game had. The singleplayer story mode had me at the edge of my seat with its great story. The weapons used online and offline were the best i had ever seen in a FPS. This game will last you long. Anyone remember the PS3s summer drought of 07? Guess which game I used to entertain myself the whole time? Resistance: Fall of Man. I swear i must have put in atleast 150 hours into the online mode.
This game is a must own.

P.S If you like this game buy Raatchet and Clank Future : Tools of Destruction
If you own a 360, dont waste your money on this game...     On: 2008-02-23

I bought my PS3 for Blu-ray playback but decided to give Resistance: Fall Of Man a try. Compared to Gears Of War, Halo 3, or COD4 on my 360 this game is a 7/10 at best. The graphics look dated, the AI is bad, the multiplayer isnt fun. Also, the game maxes at 720p for resolution and dont let the 40 players get you excited like it did me, PSN cant handle it and you will be lucky if you can get in a match with 16 players.

I have probably played no more than five hours of this game and have gone back to my 360 and Wii. This game often gets compared to Gear Of War but they are not even in the same league. This game has more in common with a game like Return To Castle Wolfenstein than it does any of the current shooters available.

If all you have is a PS3 than this game is worth getting because honestly there isnt much else. But if you have a 360 and a PS3, stay away from this one and play the better shooter games available on the 360. If you need to try it a rental is the only way to go. I wish I did that or downloaded the demo. From now on I will not buy PS3 games without trying the demo.
boring     On: 2008-02-10

i think this game is highly overrated, its so dull and boring and the graphics are like ps1 status, give me a break, this game is garbage. im going to go play bioshock, peace.
Better than most but ultimately nothing new     On: 2008-02-10

Im a little late to finish this one up now that Cod4 and Assassins Creed are both out but I was an xbox 360 guy for the initial ps3 launch. When they came out with the cheaper 40gb model, I gave it the upgrade. So I decided to get the launch title and that meant resistance. I immediately disliked it. I expected way too much from the next generation platform ps3 in the graphics department. I admit that I was spoiled by Gears of War graphics on the 360. now that may have been asking too much since the 360 was a mature platform when GoW was released and the PS3s cell processor was too new for a launch title to fully leverage it.

That said, I perservered on and I have to admit that there is a lot to like about the game... namely the storyline, its fairly rich and involved even if it isnt terribly unique. The best thing about the game were the wide open battlefield sequences. it was a lot to load in ram and the player is free to walk throughout, without game loading pauses. It was a good first for me.

So ultimately it was a decent enough game. A worthy launch title, though it feels rushed in places and the end battle was a bit of a letdown. Ill reserve judgement for Resistance 2, scheduled to be launched fall of this year [08]. Ideally Insomniac will have more maturity working with the architecture and will really wow the gamer. Im looking forward to continuing the story.
not as good as I thought it would be     On: 2008-02-01

After reading all of these reviews, I thought this game would be almost as good as the darkness. The darkness is the game I like most right now. Resistance is just ok game I think. The darkness you have to think when to use your powers and where and what powers. Resistance is just point and shoot. No thought.

my first ps3 game and my last ps3 game... for awhile.     On: 2008-01-15

I picked this up during Bestbuy after Christmas sale... I think I paid around $39.99. Im glad I bought is when it was on sale, because if I paid the full price ($59.99) I would have been severely disappointed. I have xbox 360 and all the popular first-shooter games: COD4, Gears of Wars, Halos 3....etc,. Before I take a plunge to buy any games, I listen to reviews and feedbacks. And this is no exception. Since none of my "gamer" friends have ps3, I trusted Amazon and couple of other game sites for reviews. Bottom line, I think ps3 has a long way to go. The game is so, so to me. First and foremost, without a rumble joystick, this game lacks character. The game felt very repetitive and boring to me. I own 3 highdef tv/monitors: 42" 720p panasonic, 47" 1080p sharp lcd, and optoma projector 720p... and I had to calibrate the screens because the colors look washed-out. I played total of 8 hours... I havent touched it since. Hey, at least Ps3 is a good blu-ray player.

Solid shooter. Enough said.     On: 2008-01-08

Everybody else has already said enough about this game, and most of its true and backs my review. This is one of the best shooters out there, but the storyline isnt that great and the narrator is annoying. Multiplayer is awesome with 40 people online, its insane. Graphics are polished, but definitely not the best they could be. If you have a ps3, get this now!

OK, Resistance: Fall of Man is based around Europe in the late 1940s / 1951 era, where you and your band of brothers fight alien-type creatures. The game kind of reminds me of many shooters....Like: BLACK, or KILLZONE, or something like that...

I DO like the game, its fast paced, and fun to play, however, I can see myself getting bored with it quickly...Just like I did with Black & Killzone.

Overall, the game is kind of repititious, fighting the same bad guys on & on & on, and even on the easy level, the game can be a bit on the tough side (at least for me) Then again, Im not always into these types of games. Im more into War-related games like SOCOM, Call of Duty, etc.......

Now, many people think its a great game, and I certainly agree, it is a great game. The graphics are awesome, the music soundtrack is great, the shooting, the blood...etc etc etc....(dont get me wrong, I love bloody games!) I think its pretty cool...For a while...But, for my personal tastes, after a bit of time playing it, I just found myself wanting something a bit different then mashing the FIRE BUTTON non stop, and getting killed every few minutes. hehe

I know many kids/teens & adults really love the game, because it is fun, and can be spooky at times, and its quite cool, but I just find it to be a bit monotonous after a while.

Still playing it after a Year!     On: 2007-12-21

I have been a huge fan of insomniac games and their products. Their Ratchet and Clank series is my favorite. This game is a bit of a departure into more realistic SciFi but still uses the same thinking in the game play as far as selection and diversity of weapons and enemies. It also has a great foreboding sense to every level by using muted colors, rich textures, and dramatically creepy music and sounds.

The online play is wonderful and has had 2 map packs added via the Sony PS3s online storefront. This game has a very good range in difficulty level in the off line story mode from easy beginner to insanely hard to beat expert. I would recommend this for any 1rst person shooter fan that is older that 14. It is quite violent.
amazing game     On: 2007-12-21

This game was a joy to play straight out of the box. It was a great choice to make this a launch title due to its great playability. It looks far better in HD so be sure to get HDMI cables. I recommend this game to all PS3 owners and if you havnt already purchsed it, nows your chance to get a great game.

Great Gaming!     On: 2007-12-17

I just bought my Ps3 and i actually rented this game becuase I wasnt sure how much I would like it. Well I have to say Im kicking myself in the butt right now for not buying it. I just beat the game so there is really no need to buy it now. Anyway the grafics and detail were pretty impressive such as the landscaping, bulldings,soldiers,etc..It really made you feel like it was back in the day type setting untill you get to the alien type buildings which is still great on the eyes. My girlfriend was making fun of me becuase my eyes would burn and get real dry from not blinking. Thats just shows you that this can be a very intense game.Overall I say go ahead and buy it. shoot.. I might just go buy it anyway and play it online!
Get yourself surprised     On: 2007-12-13

Pros: Appealing storyline, highly addictive, great graphics, gives you the feeling of a serious fps, gives you thrills

Cons: Some weapons look like toys, gets frustrating sometimes, distance between checkpoints (saves) can be pretty long.

This was my first PS3 games and I loved it!

Great game to play with two people!     On: 2007-11-19

This was one of the first games me and my husband got for our PS3, and it is by far the best FPS game Ive ever played. The storyline is interesting, post WWII but no Germans just Aliens! I used to hate FPS, and was just an RPG fanatic, but I really had fun playing this game!

The only bad thing about this game is that its really short. If you really wanted to you could finish it in a night. Also, you can only save one one player game and one two player game at a time or else it will save over your previous progress. But dont let that keep you from playing this game its really fun and Ive played it over many times on a harder setting.

I really give this game credit over all other FPS games Ive played on the PS3, most others say they are "two player" but dont let you play with another person AND let go through the story (like rainbow six and ghost recon, you can only play levels you select with no story, or one on one, boring!).
Very Fun Game     On: 2007-11-18

This game was better than expected and I try to pick games apart because I always think they can be better. Although I do have a few issues, over all I thought this game was one of the most fun and surprising games I have played in a long while!

Best ONLINE game EVER!!     On: 2007-11-01

This is by far, the best game I have ever played on any system before.
I have Warhawk and I can still say that after six months of owning this
game it beats Warhawk anyday. Not to say that Warhawk is a bad game
but RFOM is absolutley amazing. Once you start playing you get hooked
and the Online is in my opinion way better than the Xbox Live for Halo 3
and Xbox live in general. RFOM is just an all around great first person shooter game, that is extremely addicting. The Online gameplay is incredible, there are tons of glitches ( In my opinion they make the game much more interesting and fun). Also, you have a rank and a character that when you play online, every time you increase rank you get a new skin or outfit. Their are buddy lists, clans and everything.
Overall, this is by far the best game I have ever played.
Best FPS in a long time...     On: 2007-10-29

This is the best FPS I have ever played. The single player campaign is incredible. Online multiplayer is great. I much prefer this over Halo 3 but to each his own. If you own a PS3 you simply MUST buy this game.
I'm not much of a shoot-them-up games, but the game is good     On: 2007-10-26

As I said in the tittle of my review Im not that big on the shoot-them-up kind of games, but this one come with our Play Station, so we did gave it a try, and it was a great game on itself. The story was surprisingly good, and I enjoyed playing the game, especially in twos, where it is more fun!!!

Friggin Cool PS3 Shooter     On: 2007-10-12

Resistance: Fall of Man is a really awesome shooter in which history is rewritten. WWII and WWI did not happen and a new race a horrible creatures, the Chimera, appeared in Russia. You play as Nathan Hale, a US army ranger fighting the Chimera.I did not mean to get this game(i wanted to get Call of Duty 3) but I guess it payed off!
Resistance offers great graphics which completely made me fall in love with it. It also has good, solid gameplay and a nice story. Another awesome thing in Resistance is that it has a load of weapons. Sniper rifle, machine gun, missle launcher and much, much more all in this cool shooter. The Sixaxis controller is put into good use, too. If you get grabbed by an enemy, shake the controller madly to get it off. There are also a few vehicle sequences thrown in for good measure...but it doesnt do to much to improve the game. To be honest, things do get a little boring while you shoot Chimera over and over again. The controls are the same from other shooters. You can zoom in, throw grenade, melee and so on.
Resistance:Fall of Man sucessfully combined war and horror. Things would have been better if the game was more creative and had more to it instead of just shooting and driving, but it was a enjoyable shooter nontheless.

Rediculous Fun     On: 2007-10-10

This was my first game for PS3 and imediately my decision was vindicated. I didnt have the internet working so i played single player and it blew my mind away. After playing some madden I finally got my internet working and the multi-player just drew me right back in. Theyve done a fantastic job creating a good multi-player system that is easy to get into. High replay value in both single and multi player modes
Still the best game out since the PS3 launch     On: 2007-10-08

The best PS3 title since launch and its still awesome even now one year after launch. Massive multiplayer game and single player with unlockables. Fun and innovative weapons like the bullseye and the Larrk really make this game a title you should pick up with your PS3.

lots of online fun quite realistic styled graphics     On: 2007-10-05

im very happy with this game, if you own a ps3 this is a must have! it set in wwII times and the alien story is very interesting. there are close up shots of people getting infected with the aliens and they are creepy real looking. the weapons are cool. you dont really get the unique/original weopons until your second playthrough, but the original weapon set includes all of the essentials, so they are lots of fun. story is great in my opinion and the enemies are fairly intellegent when you progress to superhuman difficulty. I have also spent tons of hours online, which has great team games and solo competition. online you can earn medals for certain feats of greatness. sooooo buy it and enjoy
THE KILLER APP 4 PS3!! DON'T RESIST!! BUY!!!     On: 2007-10-04

When I first started this game the first thing that grabbed me was the way the story was told. I really liked the way it was presented. Unfortuanately the gameplay failed to impress me as much. I was breezing through the game and felt like I was just going through the motions. Thinking that things were too easy I kicked up the difficulty to "Hard". And all I can say is "WHOA!!!" What a difference that little setting made!!"
After I passed the first encounter and got into the game proper I was taken back by how polished the gameplay was!! The equipment, the weapons, AI and control, it all just came together in one beautiful package!! HARD mode, I decided, is the way the game was ment to be played!! Resistance: Fall Of Man turned out to be one of the most complete and polished experiences, I had had in a long time. If you have a PlayStation 3 you owe to YOURSELF to play this game! Hell in my opinion, this CURRENTLY is the PS3s ONLY "KILLER APP"!! So what are you waiting for?! GO BUY IT!! My only hope is that this game gets the sales and recognition that it deserves!!
With that said, put the flame throwers down Fanboys! This is coming from somebody who OWNS a PlayStation 3 AND an XBox 360!! And although, I prefer the "here-and-now" of the XBox 360 more than "one-day-its-gonna" of the PlayStation 3, Im a gamer! Im here for the games! So what is with all the hardware hate, anyway?!

P.S. Although it may discredit me in some of your opinions,(Of which I am beyond caring) I should mention that I have yet to play through Heavenly Sword.(Im currently awaiting my copy to arrive in the mail.) I was extremely underwhelmed by the "button-masherness" of the demo!

Not sure if I like it yet     On: 2007-10-02

Before I start my review, let me make clear that I am not a hard-core gamer (play 4-6 hours per week), and I do not enjoy shooting games as much as racing or hand-to-hand combat. I have had this game for almost 3 months now and I have played it for not more than 12 hours (I play boxing all the time). So I am not sure if I am even eligible to review this product yet, but Ill take my chances.

The thing I like most about this game is the graphics. It really cannot be expressed in words. Certain scenes during the gameplay look as real as a scene from a movie. The explosions, burning vehicles, crashing planes... everything looks top notch.

Now the thing that I dont like (and this is not the fault of this game) is that its too difficult for me. I still havent mastered taking aim with the joystick. Before I could find my aim, I get killed. I really wish there was a gun like accessory which I could just aim at the screen and shoot (like Wii). This game is so difficult that it makes me wanna not play.

Gets better every time!     On: 2007-09-26

I am glad I waited to review this game. At first it was fun but each time we beat it and our tactics improved, it got better and better. We are half way through Super Human on Co-Op and the AI just gets better and better. There are new weapons each round also. Whats great is that every weapon stays in your arsenal for the whole game once you find it. The grenades are some of the best in the business...the backlash in particular which Halo tried to steal for Halo 3 and still couldnt get it right. I know this game has been out for a while and the multiplayer is kinda out of control, but grab some buddies and Co-Op each difficulty...youll be glad you did.
The only good game in PS3     On: 2007-09-23

Its a sad thing, but I must to say it: This is the only good game in PS3 until now. The weapon system is very fun, the nail grenades are one of the funniest weapons in the game. The environmental is awesome. The non-vibrating control is a shame, but the game design, weapon system and playability is so fun that you dont feel this absense.

You wont find any new in this game, but it has all that you want in a FPS game. The multiplayer system is the best thing of the game.
Wow!     On: 2007-09-18

For starters how did this game not gain a cult following? Great game on my 61 1080P TV. I love my PS3 and I love that everything works in HD with it. This is a great game to sample its wares. Much better launch title than even Halo 1 was for the XBox. Halo series seems like a faint memory to me now.
Never too late to play a great game!     On: 2007-09-13

This game has been out a while. If youre worried youve missed the boat, dont. This game has great single player, and a pretty good multi-player which a lot of people still play.

Expect to be late for work if you play this in the morning.
Played through twice and still not enough     On: 2007-09-10

The game is smooth, good graphics, nice storyline, and tons of weapons.
Heres the clinchers for me: the controls, tutorials, and storyline.

The controls are set up like a perfectly sized glove. Switching from one weapon to another is like catching fly balls hit straight at you. Scrolling through menu options, engaging enemies, it all feels just right. The second time around I must have had what felt like a dozen weapons give or take a few and each one is there for the taking. You dont have to reach for them because the glove like response of the controls does the work for you. The second time around I found myself not just reacting but strategizing how I could wipe out the bad guys in the most efficient/ bloody way while earning extra skill points on top of having fun.

The tutorials actually helped and in case you forget it can be retrieved again so you dont waste time wondering what if. Although some of the tutorials seem trivial at the time in the end it all just adds up and makes sense of a wonderful storyline. Obviously a lot of thought was put into this game.

More games like these PLEASE!!!!!

A fun and interesting game     On: 2007-09-10

This game has a lot to offer:

Single player, multiplayer, split screen, an interesting storyline, terrific visuals, lots of action, easy to use controls, reasonable checkpoints, a wagon load of weapons, and a smooth game play without buggy glitches or freezing. I wouldnt recommend renting this one because you might feel compelled to finish the game as quick as you can without experiencing the game for what it is. For what I paid and got out of it RFOM has delivered. Im not saying RFOM is a game that you need to have, just that the one I own wont be on craigslist anytime soon.

Great FPS for the PS3     On: 2007-09-07

I purchased this game when it first came out after reading some reviews about it. All I can say is Im glad I bought it.

The gameplay is great....Although can be challenging at times, try playing in superhuman mode :) Unlocked after beating game in hard mode.

Graphics are not super detailed but are on par with most next gen games.

Good 1st Person Shooter     On: 2007-09-06

This game is a 1st person shooter players dream!

The game is challenging and addictive. As the game progresses, the enemies get smarter, use more cover, and become more dificult to kill off. Theres such a wide variety of enemy types that you have to keep your eyes open and develop new techniques as to how to dispatch them (The crawlers I usually use the mine layer to build a string of mines in front of me and they blow themselves up - but you dont get the mine layer until about level 4!). Best way to go through is like youre taught in real life - engage the enemy as far out as possible, get to mid range and use the service rifles, then get close in with a shotgun. Use the Auger (this gun is AWESOME! It actually shoots THROUGH cover) for difficult or larger enemies.

The weapons you use are new and unique. You have such a wide variety that you pick up over the course of the game that you can deal with just about any threat. Some of them are incredible, like the sniper rifle which has a secondary "fire" mode where you slow the world down to be able to engage an enemy easily.

The scenery is a little bland and repetetive, but the environments are dynamic, and much like Black, you have to watch where you hide.

The last level is absolutely intense! Youre dealing with every type of enemy all at once, while at the same time trying to shut the whole damn enemy race down (youll understand when you get there). I ran out of ammo in everything but the shotgun and Sniper Rifle.

The vehicles you utilize are very fun to drive. Some of the best ways to take care of your regular ground troops is just run right over them (you get points for this too). The enemy tank is totally awesome to run around in. Just hold down secondary fire and let loose with the rockets, and hit the target with short bursts from the primary fire machine gun.

I loved this game and will play again after playing some of the other games I have.
Best FPS and very entertaining     On: 2007-09-06

I bought the PS3 a month ago so I could play Rest. FOM. So far no regrets. I started the game at the very difficult level and slowely moved through the sections of the game. I play for a few minutes a day. Awesome graphics, action packed and challenging. I decided not to get the XBOX 360 with its million games. After owning several consoles over the years, I have come to realize you chose one console and one good game and play the heck out of it. When you are done, then go to the next. This way you will appreciate the gameplay and not get bored. My next game is Resident Evil 5. Cant wait, but for now, this cd is working its butt off and more.
Awsome game! Multiplayer rocks!     On: 2007-09-03

Good Team Game     On: 2007-09-02

My son and I loved the game and the story. Gave us a chance to work together. Several of the advance battles require that the team players work together, acting separately, in order to succeed--one acts as decoy while the other attacks, and vice versa.

Graphics are neat, and some of the creatures are eerie. (They have these scorpion like things that attack in packs--you hear them coming before they arrive. As you hear them coming, you tense up and feel the anxiety.

Great fun!
A very good, if not incredibly inspired, first person shooter.     On: 2007-08-27

I feel a bit bad for Insomniac, as Resistance: Fall of Man has had unrealistic expectations placed on it. As the PS3 launch title which actually had some buzz around it, it has fallen on Resistance to prop up the PS3s launch lineup when other launch titles garnered reviews ranging from decently entertaining (Ridge Racer 7) to horrific (Mobile Suit Gundam). Its also hard not to note the difficulty of living up to a certain other first person shooter which happened to be a launch title: Halo. In many ways, Resistance borrows from that title, and several others, most notably Call of Duty 2 and Half-Life 2. In a nutshell, Resistance: Fall of Man is an FPS which takes place in an alternate version of the 1950s, where World War 2 never happened. Instead, the world is under siege by the Chimera, a monstrous collective of creatures which may be either mutants or aliens. As an American soldier brought overseas, your mission is to help the British fight off the Chimera. Things take an unforseen turn, however, and relatively early on, you obtain the ability to regenerate health to a small degree.

Less unexpected is Insomniacs love of off-the-wall weaponry, and youll find that here, although in smaller and tamer doses than their hallmark Ratchet & Clank series. While youll get your stock machine gun/grenade launcher combo from the start, therell be a number of other weapons youll pick up, including the Chimeran standard issue Bullseye, which allows you to "tag" an enemy and have the bullets home in on the tag, the sniper rifle, which has a time "slow down" function, an organic mine-layer which spews explosive sacs, a rocket launcher with homing capability, and the auger, which fires energy bolts that can burrow through walls, and can also generate energy shields. There are also several types of grenades, including the always fun and fiery air-fuel grenade. If you finish the game, more weapons and a new difficulty level are unlocked for a subsequent playthrough. The weapons are what really set this game apart. The tactics they inspire will make for some heated battles. The controls are decent and better than Sonys last generation as far as FPS responsiveness, although I still prefer Microsofts control sticks for this kind of game. Enemy AI, while sometimes buggy or simple, is fairly adequate enough of the time. The game can also be played in co-op mode, which is certainly better than a kick in the teeth.

The good news is that, provided you dont play the game on easy, Resistance is a long enough game to keep you occupied for a bit. The bad news, however, is that the game can get oddly repetitive, thanks in part to the environments. You get a basic handful of motifs: war-torn urban battlefields, British military installations, underground tunnels, and alien-looking Chimeran strongholds. To be sure, there are a few areas that buck the trend, such as the relatively open spaces of Cheddar Gorge, or the frozen surface of the Thames River, but a pattern does start to set in. To break things up, Insomniac threw in a few vehicular sequences (where you drive a tank, jeep, or Chimeran walker), but they dont pop up very often. The basic gun-play is still very solid, though, and use of the motion-sensing SixAxis controller to shake off enemies who grab you is a nice touch. For multiplayer fans, there are a fair number of game types, and a high potential player count. Sadly, as is the case with too many games nowadays, there are no bots available for practice.

Graphically speaking, the game is pretty nice, if somewhat underwhelming. The framerate is rock solid, especially considering the amount of activity going on, and despite what a few Sony-haters may claim, this game is more than just "slightly better looking" than a PS2 game. Textures are decent, there are the requisite shiny surfaces, and the draw distance is pretty damn good. Compared to Gears of War, however, it comes off as a bit blocky and plain in design and detail. Inspiration is clearly drawn from Call of Duty 2s urban areas, Half-Life 2s City 17 and the associated Combine metallic block installations, and Preys sleek alien technology. The lighting doesnt stand out, but is used effectively enough in conjuction with a muted color palette and the usual atmospheric touches (different times of day in different areas, or the use of snowy weather later in the game). The Chimera are nicely (if gruesomely) rendered, and there are a few of them that are almost alarming in appearance. The sound effects and voice chatter are pretty good, but the music (which helped make Halo as unique as it was) is somewhat underwhelming.

To put it simply, Resistance: Fall of Man is what one would expect from a launch game which was rushed, but created by a dedicated and very capable developer that refused to put out a sub-par product: somewhat unoriginal, yet consistently entertaining. There is clearly room for franchise growth, and Insomniac has already announced that a sequel will be forthcoming. While not a stranger to FPS games, Insomniac hasnt visited the genre in years, which makes the results all the more impressive (considering how archaic the game could have played). If you have a PS3, you really should have this game in your collection, as the higher difficulty levels provide a challenge for hardcore gamers that approaches Halos "Legendary" difficulty mode. While not as inspired as the titles which it borrows from, or Insomniacs first three Ratchet & Clank games, Resistance still excels as a member of the higher echelon of console FPS games, even if it cant carve out a niche among the very best of the best.

Resistance is definately one of the better FPS (First Person Shooter) console games to come out, it provides hours of gameplay both in the Campaign mode and online. I definately recommend this to anyone, who enjoys a fast paced FPS.
The details make it great...     On: 2007-08-18

JAFPS? (Just Another First Person Shooter) NO! Not this game!

The gameplay is always smooth, the aiming precise, and the enemies are no slouch. There is no slowdown or choppiness even when the screen is full of enemies, explosions, and vehicles. This is true when online as well.

There are lots of checkpoints spread through each level, and the pacing gives you time to breathe, and save often. You will need the frequent pauses- because while some of the levels may seem short, they are very intense. One example: in one area the only task between saves is to take out an enemy tank. The problem is that you are all alone, and the enemy tank is about the biggest enemy youve seen in the game so far! Brilliant!

If you get tired of killing waves of enemies, you can try to unlock all the extras in the game. These range from developer vids, to concept art, to skins for your online avatar. Try to find all the Skill Points in the game (fun little tasks that are hinted at by the name of each) to unlock everything.

Finally theres the online play, which is excellent. International play has been recently added as a free upgrade, and it works well. Im in the USA, and hearing a room full of British accents trying to find that camped sniper never gets old!

If you have been shopping for a PS3 at all, you have already read about Resistance and how good it is. Ill tell you all the Resistance love isnt hype, its true. Resistance: Fall of Man isnt just a launch classic, its an instant classic.
From a PC gamer     On: 2007-08-16

I have never played FPS games on a console before, however I do play them on my PC. After struggling with the controls for about an hour I decided to give up. If you are an adult PC gamer like me, I would recommend playing the demo first before buying. I need to wait for the games that support mouse and keyboard it seems.
Better than I expected     On: 2007-08-16

For starters, Im not huge on FPS games. Until now, the only FPS games Ive ever really played and enjoyed were Goldeneye and the fist Halo. The game is smooth and flows well, intuitive and the graphics are terrific (resolution, of course, is terrific if you have a Hi-Def TV). Its not insufferably long, nor does the game end to early. Its length is ideal for working adults like myself who dont have a lot of time to play, but dont want to take 4 weeks to beat a game. Be warned, this is not a self contained game, there is definitely room for sequels. So dont expect a difinitive ending.
This game isn't that great.....     On: 2007-08-15

I like the story and setting that goes with it, and the weapons are cool.

But after playing it for 30 min at a friends house, this game just doesnt compare with gears of war.

1) You cant take cover besides kneeling
2) Cant go against walls and look around corners.
3) you have a small health bar
4) meleeing enemys is weak and sucks
5) people says you are a ww2 soldier but the weapons i use dont look like ww2 weapons.
6) The graphics really arent that good.
7) first person only....

I had higer hopes for this game but in the end it just isnt that fun.

WITHOUT a dOUBT , tha Best Game for the PS3 RIGHT NOW     On: 2007-08-09

Resistance is one of those games that are worth buying a system for. Sounds like a lot but it s a very good game. The Playstation 3 isnt exactly the system to buy right now, The Nintendo Wii is a lot cheaper and has the most innovative gameplay a system can have, and the XBox 360 has a year over the PS3 with almost triple the library that the PS3 has right now. But even with all that, the PS3 is still a system that has the most potential out of the 3, once the games come in its gonna be on.

Now the actual game is a great one, the story isnt exactly the best or the most original but it does its job. The graphics are great but still lacks the graphical power of games like "Gears of War". The game has great controls, that should feel natural to people that have played FPS shooters on the PS2, even to those that havent played the controls will feel like second nature once you play 5 minutes through, plus the game makes good use of the new Six-Axis controller (Example; when an enemie jumps on you, you can shake the controller to shake off the enemy). Since this game is from the same people that brought you "Ratchet & Clank" the weapons in this game are unique and very fun to play with, each weapon has a special secondary fire for example the Shotgun has a double fire, Sniper Rifle can slow down time for better accuracy and the most stand out weapon of the game is the AUGER which can shoot through walls and can create a shield for its secondary fire. The sound/music in this game isnt exactly that special especially compared to the "Metal Gear Solid" series.

Another thingabout this game is the ONLINE PLAY, online for this game is one of the best supporting up to 40 players playing at once. There are about 8 different levels with different settings depending on the number of players. The Pace online is crazy as f*** especially when there are a lot of people, you can also customize your character for online with plenty of options, honestly I Like this better than Halos online play (People are gonna hate me) the reason is because even though the physics in this game arent exactley realistic, the pace and the delivery is a lot more friendly than Halos. All in all this game isnt exactley a killer app FPS like Halo, but it has a special feel to it that you cant copy their style or gameplay, so if you have a Playstation 3 and dont have this game, get it right away.
10 months after its release...     On: 2007-08-09

And still one of the best FPSs shooters out there for the PS3 (although, not many in the market yet...)

I wont be redundant and comment on what everybody has already said for this game, but rather share my overall experience with this title. After all, if you are reading this, odds are you are minutes away from purchasing the game.

Graphics, sound, storyline, they are all great (see other reviews). But whats really impressive is how easy youll get hooked up to online play. Its simple, it loads fast, plenty of people (up to 40) and several maps and modes to choose from. And the best part is that after all this time, most people will continue to play without getting bored. Whether you want to jump in to a classic all-bullet death match inside a mall, or just take your time and play against other snipers in abandoned cities, youll always find a challenging game. I really enjoy how easy and fast it is to find and join a game, unlike other multiplayer games out there.

On the flip side, the amount of glithcers (cheaters) is substantial, even though Insomniac has been working on several patches and fixes to prevent this from occurring.

One recommendation: you will need a headset. Either get a USB or a bluetooth headset (or both) to fully enjoy the online experience.

PROS
- Sharp, realistic graphics
- Superb Sound
- Easy to learn
- Addictive multiplayer
- Great replay value

CONS
- Continuous updates are needed to fix minor issues.
- Limited options if you want to change your soldiers appearance.
- No co-op option available for online play

ok, but doesn't live up to the hype     On: 2007-08-06

After reading all the reviews, I had high hopes for Resistance: Fall of Man on the PS3. After playing around 4 hours into the game, it doesnt live up to the hype.

Im a huge fan of the Half Life series of games, especially HL2, and have played them for years. And the plot elements for R:FoM resemble those of HL2 very closely: alien race attempting to colonize Earth, one man can save it, female assistant. I was eagerly looking for a game that could one-up the competition.

So, with that comparison in mind, I was sorely disappointed when R:FoM brought nothing new to the table, and didnt even rise to the level of HL2.

Very little of the physics engine is used; some boxes are destructible, and very little else. There dont appear to be any puzzles, mazes, hidden items, nothing - this takes away a lot of the challenge and fun. The graphics are good with flames and smoke the best Ive seen, but everything else is on par with pc-based games. NPC artificial intelligence? It might be there, but the enemies hardly ever moved beyond a "feet" worth of real estate, proving easy targets.

On the positive side, the voice narration is great, and very believable. The maps and graphics in the cut-scenes are interesting and relevant.

Summary: If youre a fan of HL2, skip this one. The price isnt justified. Overall, it felt like the ps3s cell processor was underutilized, and the game was a rehash of better games on the market for many years already.
AWESOME     On: 2007-08-03

the graphics for this game are insane, and he gameplay is pretty much spray and pray. The scene s of battle with the other soldiers are amazing. Really fun. Any suggestions on what to play next?
Excellent Game     On: 2007-08-01

Make sure you have a very good monitor to play this on and any of the PS3 games. 26 inch 1920 X 1200 5ms 178 view angle dot pixel .255
Great graphics. Great game. but a little shaky at the ending     On: 2007-07-26

i thought this game was just amazing with its amazing graphics and storyline that make this game better than any other war game on the market
both races were fun 2 play on, u have almost 12 weapons and over 20 ways to kill ure opponents
this game was great and u will not be disappointed
Have Fun
But it does become a game that makes u wanna go insane towards the end
Just plain old WOW!!     On: 2007-07-16

An incredible game, spent over 35 hours playing before I "won", the game changes after a win so you can find new weapons, etc. Super graphics at 1080p on a 73" HDTV. Buy this game if you like a combination of Army games and Aliens (sort of). Its just spectacular!
the best game i have ever played     On: 2007-07-14

this game is very fun and has a great story
and the best weapons ever.
the online goes to 40 player.
a very similar game called gears of war goes to 8 players.
and when you finish campaign and start over there is the 3 addtional guns i have seen so far.
the difficulty is varable. hard mode there are more bad guys from more angles. and is also more realistic
co op with a 2 different people is great way to have fun
Resistance: Fall Of Man     On: 2007-07-13

Great game! The collaborative 2 player mode is really fun and so is the 1 player mode. The graphics and game play are very good and the game is entertaining. My only complaint is that the program does not support 1080 and you cannot save multiple 1 player games. Be careful... this game is addictive!!! :)

My first FPS on a console     On: 2007-07-12

I hated playing FPSs on consoles, because I was used to PC controls (I tried MoH and a few others that I dont even remember the name of). I bought this because its early in PS3s life and there arent a lot of highly rated games yet.

Coming from many years of FPS on a PC, I was really surprised how little time it took me to get used to the controls. They are fluid and precise.

Another thing I loved is the style of graphics, not just the detail, but the feel of the environment. I think this is what sets it apart from all other FPS games.

Another thing I really like about this is that theres no single weapon that you can use to get through the whole game. You need to constantly change weapons based on the situation your in. Shotgun is a must in close combat, while your basic M Carbine is still most effective in outdoor battles. Also, (and this might just be a coincidence) it seems like the game PUSHES you to use different weapons. If I use the same rifle for too long, the ammunition for it becomes more difficult to find, but you come across plenty of ammo for your other weapons. Switch to one of them and suddenly you find ammo for the one you just ran out of. Maybe thats just me, but maybe its a pretty clever design feature.

This game finally sparked my interest in FPS on consoles, I cant wait for a sequel and the game hints there may be one.
my first console FPS     On: 2007-07-10

The fact that you can play the campaign alone or split screen with a friend is great for sharing. If you have four controllers you can even play 4-way, split screen deathmatch!
And once the single player campaign gets old there is online multiplayer.

The game is fun and you will get your moneys worth of entertainment.
Great First Person Shooter for the PS3
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-07-06

Even though this game has gotten some bad reveiws, I acually think its a great game. I just got it today and Im already hooked. The levels are very well designed and the enemy AI is pretty good. Insomniac also used their talent of making awesome guns for even more awesome guns for Resistance Fall of Man. They had some great ideas for the alien guns like the Bullseye and Auger. I also think the graphics are very good, like how glass breaks and explosions from gas pumps and stuff. Insomniac also took ideas from their previous series,(one of my favorites) Ratchet and Clank. In the fourth game, they have the Landstalker, which is exactly the same as the Stalker from Resistance. They also used skill points for this game, which I always love to collect. Last, the game can really get your heart pumping. It can be very creepy when walking around dark and small tunnels when suddenly a Hybrid jumps out and starts shooting. Overall, I think this game is an awesome FPS for the PS3.
one of the best ps3 games     On: 2007-07-01

graphically, the game is awesome but only in certain portions of the game. say for instance when youre going through where they make chimera out of humans. but thats really all about time spent by the graphics guys to put the effort into creating detailed levels. game play, storyline, how the game keeps wanting to play are excellent. best 1st person shooter for ps3 so far.
Nearly Perfect     On: 2007-06-28

Ive played nearly every major FPS game over the last 20 years and I thought I could no longer be amazed, but this game has done it. Its nearly perfect on every level - graphically, gameplay, sound and storyline. Its positively scary at times (I didnt think I could be frightened by a game any more) and deeply engrossing. Plus you get free online multiplayer for your ps3. The weapons are great, and you even get new, secret weapons on your second time through the game as a reward for completion. And when you crank up the settings the enemies hide in new spots that were empty the prior time through.
Best PS3 Game so far     On: 2007-06-27

This is the flagship game for PS3, it shows off the power of the PS3 while maintaining a high FPS. I played it through on coop, played through it single player, and played it online, its fun no matter which path you choose. The weapon choices are great and fun to use. It can be a strategic game at times, knowing which gun to use in which situation. Very Fun!
Well...     On: 2007-06-21

I dunno, its sort of a run-through type of game. If you know what im talking about. Like Call of Duty for instance. Doesnt take too much thought, besically press two buttons the whole game; right trigger and thumb-stick up. Graphics with the cut-scenes are just insane though, I will give credit for that. The graphics are incredible, although the way the guy runs is a little too fast, kinda makes my OCD kick in. Its an alright game, but I like games that make you think, (oblivion, condemed, etc). Good game, just not into the run through type of games
Replay Value = 5 stars.     On: 2007-06-21

Ive played this game through the campaign alone 3 times and it hasnt gotten old. Online play is a huge bonus with unlockable character goodies and a unique ranking system.

Multiplayer and Co-op make it extra fun as the levels transform into unique territory.

Highly reccomended!

Awesome game from start to finish.     On: 2007-06-20

I didnt expect much from Resistance but it blew me away. Fast, chaotic action and lots of innovative weapons. The levels are very well designed, pacing, objectives, everything fits together masterfully and every time I finished a level I thought to myself "2 minutes int eh new one, just to give it a try" and ended up completing it... then another, and another. Amazing game.
This game made PS3 worth buying     On: 2007-06-19

I first bought Genji, and was okay with it. But when I got RFOM, I couldnt stop playing. I usually dont even buy shooting games, but this game is amazing. heres some of the pros and cons and you can decide for yourself if its worth buying.

Pros:
-FREE ONLINE PLAY
-good graphics, esp. with HD
-the motion thingy, like wii, is moderately used.
-pretty sweet weapons...big variety (same guys who made Ratchet & Clank)
-decent campaign mode, LONG story, but makes it challenging
-max. 40 players per game online

Cons:
-only 1 person can go online per console
-offline, only 4 people can go on
-cant message friends while playing (360 can)
-HD is only 720, not full.

The only thing keeping me from giving this game 5 stars is the online play. Its pretty chetty. My friends cant play online with me on the same console. Theyd have to buy their own ps3. The other cons, I dont mind so much. I like this game better than halo, though, because its easier for me to control, and better than gears (even though gears graphics is better than RFOM), because of weapon selection. I dont know why anyone wouldnt be willing to buy this game for $60 if they bought a ps3 for $600.
desolate, war-torn remains     On: 2007-05-28

Emerging as the premier PlayStation 3 launch title, Resistance: Fall of Man is a first-person shooter set in an alternate world history where World War II never happened. In this alternate history, an era of peace and prosperity had followed The Great War (what would have been known as World War I), but the revelation of the existence of a rapidly spreading mutative virus in Russia begins to change the face of the planet. This virus, the Chimera virus, causes its victims to lapse into comas, during which time they undergo a monstrous transformation into something thats not entirely human anymore. These transmuted creatures, branded as Hybrids, emerge violent and warlike. They possess a kind of brute force, an enhanced strength that can easily overpower unafflicted humans, as well as an innate regenerative ability. These Chimera are eventually able to organize into a military force, overrunning Russia and, in time, all of Europe. In 1950, they invade the United Kingdom, routing the defending forces there in a mere three months. In 1951, the Americans send a strike force to England to assist the remaining resistance fighters in liberating their lands. The player then assumes the role of Nathan Hale, a member of that strike force.

The story unfolds in flashback narrative sequences voiced by a captain in the British resistance. In historical fashion, she chronicles each critical step of Hales endeavor, and the effect of it is convincing. It makes you feel as if youre living out the pages of a history book, playing out an essential, revered role--even if that history book is from an alternate timeline. The plot, characters and background are all portrayed admirably; its definitely one of the more interesting concepts for a shooter backstory youll find. Its unfortunate, however, that little of that plot unfolds during actual gameplay, that you only get those narrative, documentary-type sequences between levels. However, its not all bad as there are many such levels in Resistance, most of which tend to be shorter than what a genre veteran would expect.

The game could fairly be described as a successful cross between Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty 2. Atmospherically, it echoes many of the gloomy, ominous aspects from Half-Life 2. The desolate, war-torn remains of a human civilization nearly defeated by inhuman oppressors resonate with a kind of intrinsic melancholy alternating with outright horror. The level design is generally decent and varied, although I did find some cycles tiresome, namely traversing through the obligatory sequences of tunnels. This game is a pure shooter, a game where you frequently find yourself jamming down on the fire button and recklessly flapping your weapon at hordes upon hordes of onrushing enemies. But sometimes firefights are somewhat slower paced, taking place in sprawling areas and over long distances, thusly offering the player more tactical and strategical options. However, positive marks go towards the fact that the foes, once disposed of, usually stay that way (admittedly, there are a few instances where respawning still does seem to happen). Still, little of that maddening Call of Duty 2 and 3-like endless respawning is implemented. During combat, the player can duck and utilize environmental cover to an extent, but its not really what this game does best. What its designed for is employing the strategic advantages of a wide array of varied weaponry. To that end, the armaments at your disposal are a mix of pseudo-1950s technology crossed with science-fictional concepts. Some of the firearms in this game are quite unique, such as the Chimeran Auger, a gun that rapid-fires a kind of bullet that will burrow through walls and negate a haven of transient cover. Theres also a weapon that lets you bounce shots off of walls and around corners. While these unusual types of firing modes take some time to learn how to employ effectively, they unquestionably add a stamp of distinctiveness to this games arsenal. And in addition to all that running and gunning, you do get a few rather average vehicle passages as well to break things up.

Resistance undoubtedly plays well, possessing as it does solid, intuitive, nearly effortless controls. The PlayStation 3 Sixaxis control pad here is the very definition of precise, and the analog sticks respond almost organically to your every nudge. It just feels right. Concerning Sixaxis motion control, theres apparently some minor implementation in this game, but I didnt use it all. The only complaint I can voice in this regard is the lack of force feedback in the controller, a Sony corporate decision that unfortunately has a necessarily negative impact on games like this.

I guess one of the bigger questions must be, how does it look? And the answer to that is, it looks good. I have the PlayStation 3 wired into a high definition TV with an HDMI cable, and the visual quality of this game is...very good. Now, lets qualify that. To someone used to PlayStation 2 level visuals, this game will absolutely blow them away with its presentation. However, anyone whos played such recent Xbox 360 shooters as Gears of War and Rainbow Six: Vegas in high definition has to admit that Resistance: Fall of Man, as good as it is, falls short of that mark. Its mostly in the close-ups, in the details, where the textures get blurry and undefined before youre even on top of them. Otherwise, its still a visual extravaganza. There must be more debris floating around in this game world than any other shooter Ive played. It really pushes a lot of onscreen movement around with no noticeable frame rate issues. Its just that the level of graphical detail is not quite up to second generation, premier Xbox 360 titles. Understandable, considering that this is a launch title. But wasnt the Playstation 3 supposed to be so much more powerful than the Xbox 360?

In any case, graphical comparisons to other games on other systems is essentially a non-issue, merely a frame of reference. Resistance looks good on its own terms and it plays good, and ultimately thats all that matters. Its also got a cool story thats imparted to the player in an interesting, appealing manner. Unfortunately, theres not enough variety in the running and gunning here to maintain a constant bubble of active interest. It does grow stale on occasion, this mainly due to the sometimes repetitive nature of gameplay and the few disagreeably mundane levels and sequences that mildly mar the potential greatness of the proceedings.
The best FPS on PS3, and one of the best out on any platform.     On: 2007-05-23

Resistance combines an above average single player campaign with a fantastic online multiplayer experience. The single player campaign is good enough that you will want to play it, but the online MP is where you will get hooked. With up to 40 players per game, you will be hard pressed to find a game that lags. The matchmaking will find your game quickly and effeciently. As you progress your stats are recorded, and you earn medals, skins, ect.

There is so much replay value in this game that if you own a PS3 you shouldnt even be reading this user review. You should have already bought it by now. Also, keep an eye out for Ratchet and Clank: Future by the same company this fall.

Only One Can Resist     On: 2007-05-22

No one can resist the urge to keep playing Resistance: Fall of Man once the game is started. Chapter after chapter of exhilarating battles against a plethora of creatures that you use a plethora of weapons to defeat (and theyll use them against you too).

To really put the plot of the game in context (if you care about the plot), its well worth the visit to the official Resistance: Fall of Man web site; theres a ton of story there that Id bet 90% of the people who start the game are unaware of. For me, the story helped me "get into character" for the game. If you just want to start wasting some nasty beasts, "Get to it, soldier!" Rest assured, the story wont help you beat the enemies or evade the barrage of defenses that will be fired at you by them.

As a relatively new gamer, Im glad that I played Call of Duty 3 Call of Duty 3 before I cracked open Resistance: Fall of Man. It was good FPS training (set in approximately the same time period) for this much more difficult PS3 title.

Resistance has an M (mature gamers only) rating which miffs me a bit, but then Im a bit more liberal when it comes to what I think might warp the little minds of kids these days. Ive seen this classified as a Horror title, but I think that Sci-fi Action is much more fitting. Resistance deserved a T (teen) rating. My kids and I get hung up all too often on sunny days playing Resistances Co-op Mode when we should be outside playing ball. And hopefully that alone speaks volumes as to how addictively fun this game is.

Co-op Mode is split screen of course because the game is FPS; it would be nice if some games could give the option of switching to a single screen, third person view for Co-op in order to negate the need for split screen, but that would distinctly change to look, feel and some of the weaponry...so I assume thats why its never offered on Co-op mode (I cant speak to online; I have not played online multi-player).

But Resistances real challenge is in single player Campaign Mode.

Your weapons are plentiful. You start with a pretty standard machine gun (M5A2) that includes a grenade launcher that will become your best "little friend" in the game. Its very useful on the enemies that you encounter most throughout the game. You also get several mean weapons that you pick up from your fallen comrades and defeated beasts including the enemys main machine gun (The Bullseye...very handy), grenades, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, a radiation blaster (The Auger), a mine thrower, a rapid fire subsonic bolt dispenser (The Hailstorm) and a rocket launcher.

Grenades are key to survival...use them, but youll want to keep in mind that you can run out real real fast...so use them pretty much exclusively to take down groups of enemies.

(And five other weapons aside from the ones that I mentioned above are unlocked only after beating/completing the game once on medium difficulty or higher.)

If you missed the countless gamer magazines synopsises of the creature types and the power of the individual weapons, there are some great gamer help web sites that are worth taking a look at to help you strategize (just click on my profile above and email me if youd like me to point you in the right direction).

And speaking of getting pointed in the right direction, part of the fun of this game is figuring out on your own how to get from chapter to chapter. There are no maps, which at times was frustrating. Let me tell you that if the phrase "the best route is not always the most obvious" ever applied to trying to get from here to there it applies in this game on more than one occasion.

Youll also need to at times navigate a jeep and a tank.

So what exactly are you fighting? Where exactly did they come from? If youre up to the challenge to find out....Youre Sgt. Nathan Hale, and youre the only one with a Resistance to the Fall of Man. Prepare for some serious battle.

My kids and I get hung up all too often on sunny days playing Resistances Co-op Mode when we should be outside playing ball. And hopefully that alone speaks volumes as to how addictively fun this game is.

Co-op Mode is split screen of course because the game is FPS; it would be nice if some games could give the option of switching to a single screen, third person view for Co-op in order to negate the need for split screen, but that would distinctly change to look, range, feel and some of the weaponry...so I assume thats why its never offered on Co-op mode.

Multi-player is very cool. Multi-player is not like Co-op where you play the Campaign Mode with a partner. In Multi-player you battle against your friends offline (4 player max/split screen) or online (40 player max/full screen). You get some areas of battle to play in that you encountered in Campaign Mode and some new map scematics.

Good for a console FPS     On: 2007-05-18

Im a computer gamer so please take the control issues with that in mind. I have tried other console fps in the past including halo and have been very unimpressed unimpressed. Along with my admited lack of skill (controls are akward without a keyboard and mouse for me) The game play always seems to be over hyped compared to games like wolfenstein: ET Counter Strike source, Half life 2, the battle field games. With resistance although I still find the controls akward, The game play is excelent. The AI is great. I blasted my way through an enemy posistion and hid behind a truck expecting to snipe at anouther distant enemy position. When I peek out the other side of the truck the enemy was gone. Suddenly Im taking damage from the other side of the truck. They blasted through my flank!, and did it quickly. A certain scene from Jerassic Park flashed through my mind as my unskilled rear was handed to me "Clever girl". The weapons are inovative. Some of the ones I tried range from ww2 stile rifles and shot guns to fire and forget machine guns, and shield emiters. I may just take this opertunity to learn to aim. I am holding on my opinion of the grafics and online play as I am waiting for my replacement component Monster Cables, and I Havnt tried online yet. Before you hold the defective cables against monster They are 6 year old ps2 component AV (They are compatable) and monster is replacing them no questions asked and no proof of purchase. I would recomend anyone spend the extra money for monster cables, I suppose thats a seperate review though.
WOW     On: 2007-05-15

Its a WOW game, excellent for those who love the strategy game, the two players offline game, is great, because it lets you go on with the mission, and plan some strategies with your partner. the online game is great too, the realism is awesome. I recommend it 100%
Fun and Addicting     On: 2007-05-14

Resistance is definatly one of my favorite games right now, online is amazing, however it can be frustrating sometimes, because with up to 40 people in a game at once, you often get killed just seconds after you spawn, and people dont spawn snipe, its just that so many people are running around. However it is still a great game and is incredibly fun and it uses the sixaxis controller wonderfully, i would and do recommend this game to anyone.
Resistance is the best console FPS to date!     On: 2007-05-12

Resistance is hands down the best FPS ever to get in a video-game console. Technically impressive with huge areas and amazing phisics effects, pay atention to the snow at the end and the windows shattered glasses and youll understand what Im saying. The first console game IMO with AI comparable with the one on HL², which makes every time you play unique, adding a lot to the replay value. The multiplayer with 40 players online is amazing, and the offline mode remindes me of the good old nights playing N64s Goldeneye. Have a PS3? Buy it.
Resistance was futile     On: 2007-05-07

Resistance Fall of Man for the PS3 was an exceptional first person shooter. It easily does for old school war games what Halo did for futuristic battle games. The old school (Call of Duty) feel and control made this game familiar, but the imaginative alien enemies kept it fresh. I take my gaming seriously and the more violent the better. Play it once and become addicted. Play it twice to find all the new unlocked weapons. Personally I am on my 4 time (attempting to pick up all the skill points and other hidden goodies).
Really for hardcore gamers - Revisted     On: 2007-05-05

Im not really a hardcore gamer, but do play video games now and again. This game seems a little too hardcore without much introduction. You get put in a war situation and must fight to survive, but also must be an aggressive fighter. Ok, good so far as nothing is wrong with that. But you do get killed a lot and theres a lot of standing around at first trying to figure out what to do. Admittedly Im only in the beginning phases, but seem spend too much time just waiting after a kill to get back to playing, as if there is some type of punishment for getting killed. Other games like Motorstorm rematerialize you right away. I mean youre there to play, not to sit and wait for some obligatory punishment/waiting period after youve died. Im sure there are a lot of poignant and entertaining moments with this game, but I may never get to them. Also Ive noted this is a frustrating game for any kids under 13, of course its rated M anyway. Im thinking of selling the game after having it about 3 weeks or so and with about 10 hours of playing time. I much prefer Motorstorm and kids do too.

That was my first review. Now Ive given it another chance and find this game to be awesome. Its taken this long to get back to the review since I spend so much time playing the game. Really started getting into the game in cooperative mode and havent looked back since. There are some specific skills you need, such as accurate aiming with a joystick, and the ability to think quickly (change guns, throw grenade, find a better position, etc.). Using strategy pays off. There is hardly ever just one way to achieve the mission. Many paths let you go slow and stealthy, or fast and in-your-face. Im now a full convert to this game and fully recommend it. Though its a lot of violence, playing it with younger kids gives a good opportunity to discuss fantasy from reality. I play it with children as young as 9 and find the language acceptable.

Top PS3 game hands down!     On: 2007-05-04

Fall of man is the best game on the market right now. Everything about it is amazing. The chimera are some ugly, fierce, and smart enemies in this game. The AI is unreal. The sounds and graphics of this game are amazing. The only thing I found disappointing of this game was that I wish there was a bit more situations where you got to fight along side other soldiers like in the first level. Other than that I loved the game. Great story behind it too!

For online fiends only!     On: 2007-04-20

Like many other people i bought this as my first game for my PS3. The campaign mode has a pretty good story and reminds me of the 90s classic Marathon. At some points in the game you get to drive Tanks, A Range Rover and even a Gundam style walker in a huge battle. As with all single player games though, the AI of the enemies is pretty weak. They are always waiting in the same buildings in the same places in the same numbers. All it takes is a well thrown nade and they are dead. It shouldnt take more than three days for you to finish this game in campaign mode.

It doesnt matter that the campaign is short, because the online multiplayer is where the real battles are happening. I have personally played on a server with 40 people and its just mayhem at its best. The smooth and detailed graphics make it great to sometimes just be a spectator and watch people go for it. Another pleasing feature is that there are no slowdowns or dropped frames even in intense battles. The only downer to online play is that none of the vehicles are available...

Anyway, i think its a great game that all FPS lovers should own.
Great Game Ruined By Multiplayer Cheaters     On: 2007-04-10

This game is fantastic offline, however if you are a hard core multiplayer gamer be warned - you already have a crap load of players who cant pull their own weight and resort to cheating much like in SOCOM 2 for the Playstion 2. Players hide in places where their not suppose to be quickly obtaining untold kills and being rewarded with ranks they never earned. Its frustrating and ruins the online multiplayer experience.

If you intend to play multiplayer join a clan and block out the cheaters. As long as players can pull their internet connection cord without getting kicked off this issue will not be resolved. If it were not for that problem I would give this game a 5 star rating. This game is incredible but the online cheaters have killed it for me.
Great game and graphics!!     On: 2007-04-07

This game is a great game the graphics are amazing and the overall gameplay is wonderful!!
Worth your time and money     On: 2007-04-05

With so few games available for the PS3 I felt I had no choice but to buy it. I was pleasantly surprised as the game unfolded and the story line progressed. The graphics are amazing and the creatures are fierce. Overall the AI seemed smart and unpredictable. Its one of the few games I followed thru to the end.
Awesome     On: 2007-04-02

I never got into FPS games. I remember when Doom was the big thing back in the early 90s but I wasnt interested. I started getting interested in a FPS game because of all the hype about Halo. Still, I bought my PS3 to get a cheaper Blu-ray player that just happens to play my PS2 games (at least thats what I told my wife ;). I decided to try Resistance as my first FPS and I am blown away and amazed at how much I enjoy it!!! I hear there are other games out there that are better (GOW and Halo, etc). I will have to see for myself when the time comes (when does Halo 3 come out?). I plan on buying a 360 sometime next year.

In any case, Resistance is great. The graphics are awesome even though some reviews say they are so, so. I dont what theyre looking at, but I am playing Resistance on a Sony 60" 1080P Rear Projection TV. My set upconverts to 1080p from 720p and I can honestly say, the graphics on this game are awesome! A lot of review state GOW is better but "technically" speaking I doubt that they are. It may be that the GOW graphics are more pleasing to that particular reviewer.

As for playability, for a novice like me, I think the game-play is very good. It took me a while to get used to the controls, but then I dont play FPS games normally. Resistance is definitely a lot of fun to play. The one thing about the game that Im not sure that I like is that you are pretty much herded into the direction you need to go and sometimes there is only one way to go. From a tactical standpoint, that sucks. Kind of hard to flank the enemy if you can only take them head on.

I have owned Resistance for 72 hours and spent at least 12 of them playing it. That may not be a lot to some gamers, but for me those 12 hours are more than I played all of last year. Its tough being husband and father of 2 kids!

if you are going to purchase one game for ps3; this should be it. graphics are amazing; sound quality in surround sound is awesome. a must have.
greatest game     On: 2007-03-31

the game feels like counter strike game in pc.
but its better than CS.
the story is fantastic, the weapons are awesome!
Solid Title     On: 2007-03-30

If youre a shooter fan like me youll enjoy this game. The graphics are really good. They arent quite as good as Gears of War, but theyre still better than a lot of next gen games. The array of weapons is satisfying and the enemy AI is pretty smart. They really keep you on your toes. Ive read most of the back story on the website, which makes the game all that more interesting. If you have a PS3 you really need to get this game.
Great game!     On: 2007-03-25

The best part of this game is that its controls are natural. I will play any game, even if it is rated poorly by gaming fanatics in some magazine, if the controls feel natural. In this game, without cumbersome adjustement and compromise, I can shoot and move easily without having to process what button to press and so forth. Its just natural. As for the game. Its great. Just dont be an idiot like me and start on the hard setting. Oops.
A must.     On: 2007-03-23

The first killer app for PS3 and must buy for fans of the genre, great graphics, challenging, lots of unlockable weapons every time you finish the game add to its replay value, the online games with up to 40 gamers are incredibly fun and the networks matching system is great. A must.
Best PS3 Game so far.     On: 2007-03-22

Well this is the best one PS3 came out with. Cant wait for them to come out with more great games.
Great game and I'm not a FPS fan.     On: 2007-03-20

Im sure like a lot of people this was one of the first games I bought for my PS3. Im not a fan of first person shooters. I prefer 3rd person action games like Jedi Outcast for the pc. But FP shooters seem to be the only thing being made these days so I gave in and gave this a try.

Im sure everythings been said already about this game as far as graphics go so Ill just agree that theyre awesome. Game play is smooth also. Frame rate is superb, no slow down. Im only about half way through my first time through the game and its very addictive. Lots of weapons and enemies to unload them on. Ill agree with one reviewer that some of the enemies will creep you out. For me its those Grey Jacks and the Leapers (think face huggers from Aliens), ugh I hate those things. There may be worse in store for me but for now they cant die fast enough.

I read an article that there will be a Resistance 2. In the off chance the developers read these reviews Ill list my only gripe which is more blood and guts. I want heads and limbs blown off with "Kill Bill" style blood squirts. If I run up on an enemy and give him both barrels of a shotgun I want the beast to do more than just keel over, I want a huge sucking chest wound with entrails everywhere. OK Ill pull my horns back in now but I know Im not the only video game gore hound out there.

Even without the extreme gore the game is still lots of fun and Ive already started replaying certain favorite levels. This game is definitely a must have. Remember developers.... pour on the blood in RFOM 2.

One of the best games out there for any system     On: 2007-03-19

Its worth noting Im limited on my game time, balancing work and family life... But comparing this to other shooter games out there, this stands out to me as one of the best.

Graphics are smooth flowing, fine sound effects, and - some enemy combatants that make your skin crawl a little as you move about in different environments.

Replay-ability hasnt been an issue for me yet, but there are different levels of difficulty (as is typical)... And on-line play to jump into as well. (And, you can hang out with a few of your crew and just hunt each other down if you like ;-) ).

My enjoyment may be slightly tainted by the 60-inch HD 1080p experience (i.e. adding to certain elements)... But its still ranks as one of the best out there for me.
- Id take this over Halo, np.
fantastic     On: 2007-03-18

this game is the best for the psp. the graphis are great. this game has alot os action and blood. it will keep you glued to the tv screen.
Okay     On: 2007-03-17

I want to rate this game higher, but I just cant because Ive been spoiled by pc shooters. Now, this game is fun, and I do play it and enjoy it. However, its more in a throw-back to old times way than anything else. The graphics are rather ho-hum, but then again I feel the same way about gears of war. Everyone raves about the graphics of that game, but compared to F.E.A.R or Oblivion, or even Half-life 2, Gears isnt anything special. Granted Im comparing high-end PC games to console games, so the consoles are generally going to lose, especially since the consoles are only in 720p at the moment.

The A.I is stupid. I dont know why people think that it is great... You can sneak up on them from the side, where a lot of other games would see you. Even if this was realistic, when you start shooting them, they will sometimes just stand there being stupid and not reacting. They will try to find cover and hide, but they rarely come after you. When they do, one will come after you, get mowed down, then his buddy does exactly the same thing... Not exactly the next-gen A.I I was hoping for.

The actual gameplay is nothing original, but I find myself playing it and enjoying it, so overall it isnt a bad game, just not as unbelievable as a lot of people think. I would recommend everyone to try it. It is probably one of the best games for the PS3, just not one of the best FPS games period. If you dont have a high end computer, and havent played one of the games I mentioned above, you probably wont have the problems I notice, but if you have, then realize the gameplay will feel a little old hat.

worth owning
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-12

Resistance: Fall of Man is one of the few Playstation 3 games thats actually worth owning. Everything you like about mission-based World War II games is included here, including wonderful graphics, great play control, a variety of weapons where each one is unique, interesting strategies required to master in order to make progress, etc. This is the best game so far on the Playstation 3.

Amazing, incredible, fantastic, unbelievable!     On: 2007-03-11

This game is the best game of the year by far! The graphics are excellent and the environments are SOO immense and realistic. You would be hard pressed to find a better game out there. If you thought GoW was good, play RFOM and be prepared for your JAW TO DROP, and to have your SOCKS KNOCKED OFF!
great game for the ps3 and will only get better     On: 2007-03-10

i have to say this game looks great, and it is fun. the only downside is that the controls were a little confusing at first. not uncommon with new games, but it took a little longer than i expected it to. the graphics are simply amazing. i say they are at least as good as the 360 graphics if not better. and this a early ps3 game my friends. this shows that the games will just be getting better and better.

ps2 quality for ps3 price     On: 2007-03-09

Aliens running wild in 1940s era in Europe. Graphics, sound, controls are above par but, cant help feeling it should be better than this. Its like going see a movie with high expectations, coming out "It was ok but...", that kind a feeling (darn commercials). Maybe the price and the ending has something to do with it.
A good game for ps3, worthy of having it!     On: 2007-03-09

This is the second first personal shooting game I have so far. The first one was call of duty in ps2. I would say that Resistance is better than call of duty in a way that 4 friends can play together use one console. The online games are great, playing with real people is a fun thing. Online game is the most interesting part of Resistance.

Though 720p is good, I think it is still the drawback for this game because every owners of ps3 want 1080p!

Im an old school fps fan, and ive rarely finished the offline portion of a fps. However, Ive finished the single player mode of resistance twice.

The online is a lot of fun, and there is new content being released this month. I highly reccommend this game!
Loads Of Fun, But....     On: 2007-03-05

I think that the graphics in this game are incredible. The enemies and guns both look very realistic. There are a few things that needed some work though. There isnt a very large selection of guns, and the story could have used a little bit more tweaking. I agree with a couple of the other reviewers when they say that the character development was a little lax. Other than that, this is a great game to own (of course if you own a PS3, you probably already have this).
Best PS3 Launch title     On: 2007-03-02

Im not normally a fan of First-person shooters (FPS), but I enjoy Reistance. The graphics are wonderful (for a launch title) and the game does a fine job of building tension. Youll grow to dislike the enemies youll encounter, but the story doesnt do a great job of making you care for the games protagonists. Anyone who has played Insomniacs flagship game Ratchet and Clank will appreciate the creativity of the weapon design, although the large selection youd expect isnt there. If youve got a PS3 console in its early days, R:FOM is a must play.
FUN SHOOTING COOL *** WEAPONS!     On: 2007-03-01

So many good 1st person shooter games but nothing like this. The graphics are great... not the best... but definately considered eye candy to me. What makes this such a unique First Person Shooter is the weapons. The Creators of ratchet and clank created this game brought there crazy weapon ideas and implemented them into this FPS.

PROS:
LOTS OF FUN
CREATIVE WEAPONS
GOOD ONLINE PLAY
STORY IS LAID OUT WELL

CONS:
SHORT CAMPAIGN MODE

FOR A LAUNCH GAME... ITS A GRADE "A" IN MY BOOK, AND THE BEST LAUNCH GAME FOR THE PS3. looking forward to part 2!
Fairly Short Campaign, but very fun overall.     On: 2007-02-27

One thing youre sure to hear from 360 fanboys is how Gears of War blows away Resistance, etc etc. Since I own both systems, I went ahead and gave this game a shot a couple days ago, and I was _not_ disappointed. The game may not be as pretty, but it still looks great, and is a blast to play. I wished for a while that there was a cover feature like Gears, but really every other shooter Ive played doesnt have it, and I was used to it within minutes.

Pros -
* Campaign plays like a story, feels like youre playing through history.
* Co-op campaign mode, Im a big fan of this, for me it makes the game much more enjoyable.
* Great gameplay and graphics, not quite GoW quality, but looks awesome on an HDTV, controls and gameplay are standard, but pretty much flawless.
* Easy to launch into multiplayer play, I downloaded the patch and was playing (for free even) within a couple of minutes with 39 other people in the game, fun stuff.
* Atmospheric, great AI. Challenging for all skills levels, get a feeling of immersion playing through.
* Weapons! These can make or break a shooter...if the weapons arent fun to shoot, then a shooter can lose its appeal quickly. I enjoyed pretty much every gun you get, but I didnt really understand why you need to beat the game to get access to a few new weapons...not a good reason to replay a game in my opinion.

Cons -
* Not _quite_ the graphics I expected from PS3, but its first gen, so very minute complaint. Only supports 720p - Im actually not sure if this going to be standard for PS3 games, or later games will be 1080p, (ala blu-ray)but it would have been that much nicer for it to look that much better. If you dont own an HDTV, dont worry about this, if you do, you might not even have 1080p resolution, so this "problem" really doesnt apply to most people.
* Im noticing a trend here with games like this where the campaign is only around 10 hrs...its a great 10, but it kinda sucks to be done in a couple of days, and I dont gain much satisfaction from beating it on a harder difficulty. (I beat it on medium)That being said, the free multiplayer option is nice. (Also, its about 10hrs not including restarts, moving at a fairly fast clip through the game, it could take novice players double that at medium difficulty)

Overall -

Very fun to play through the story, I honestly got as much of a kick out of it as I did GoW...very similar yet somehow not as mindless in presentation. If you want to play through the story once, and dont enjoy multiplayer, _RENT IT_. If you like playing through on different difficulties, or especially if you enjoy multiplayer shooters, _BUY IT_.
4.5 stars.
A must have for the PS3     On: 2007-02-22

I dont really like shooting games. This game however had everything that reminded me of Doom when I first played it on my PC back in 1993. I wont go much on the game story because its there in the product description. I will however point out a few things. The game is firstly fun - When I finished it, I wanted to play it all over again. Its addictive. Plus you can try the non-campaign stuff which is fun too. Secondly it is challenging - I hate games which can be really challenging and dont allow you to set difficulty. Extremely challenging games are not fun and a turn off. This game allows you to choose Easy, Medium and/or Hard. Dont be fooled. "Easy" is not really easy. In fact, if its your first time, try "Medium" because its slightly harder and has more weapons to obtain throughout the game. Once you get the hang of it, you can try "Hard" for more of a challenge. The only drawback I felt was the storyline could have had much more intense graphics...I really cant think of anything else.

If you own a PS3, get this. The only 2 other games which I feel is better than this is the (racing) Formula 1 Championship edition(I have the Jap version) and (boxing) Fight Night 3. You will not regret it!

great game. awsome online play.     On: 2007-02-17

this game is gorgeous. very fun and good story. the online play is where it really shines though, up to 40 people in a deathmatch, thats chaotic fun at its best. this is a must own ps3 title.
Good, but nex gen games can be better     On: 2007-02-17

This is a terrific FPS, fluid, good weapons and enough content to keep a player coming back for more. That being said. The next gen consoles can deliver more than this. This is the first game sold for the PS3 that should be a must own for the consoles owners, but in itself it is not a reason to buy the console. This game gets four stars because it leaves untapped potential on the table.

Graphics are sound and backgrounds are decent. Get this one, but dont expect a revolution in gaming from it.
A Great Game     On: 2007-02-12

PS3 off to a good start     On: 2007-02-11

Superior online play with up to 40 players at once definitely makes Resistance: Fall of Man a must have for the sleek new PlayStation 3.
Hilarious
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-02-10

I usually agree with people on game reviews and id have to say your all overating this game FAR too much. All you hear when ps3 comes into conversation is resistance fall of man.

So what is resistance fall of man?
A combination of a ww2 game and Halo. yes halo, even have a gun that sounds like that stupid needler on halo.
I guarentee you everyone who gave it good reviews is a halo fruit. Dont get me wrong its not a bad game its just totally overated by far. You play it once and thats it. The online play is just like halo except worse.

I guarentee you , mark my words the next resistance that comes out you will be "duel wielding" more weapons ( Theres 1 wep i know you can duel wield in this game ) just like halo 2. Anyway the graphics are allright but considering no hdtv i cant see the full glory of it.

And im being 100% honest when i say cod3 is better then this game. Yes online and offline, better.
Amazing Game     On: 2007-02-07

It may not look as fun as Gears of War but it is way more fun. The single player is almost double the length of Gears and online is insanely fun. Its probably better in my opinion. If this looked as good, it would be the best game ever made.
Great first game     On: 2007-01-31

This is the first game that I brought home from Blockbuster for my brand new PS3 and Im definitely loving it. The only reason I didnt give it five stars is because it is really just a first-person shooter without anything genuinely original. That aside, the graphics rock with a VERY solid frame rate (slowdown - a thing of the past!!!). This game is intense and will have you on edge from start to finish (at least the first time through) and online play potential SHOULD easily rival HALO (I have a feeling Im going to be crucified for that). I could NOT get enough of driving the tank around and blowing the [explative] out of the creatures hiding or going on suicide runs (note that this AI is the best Ive ever seen - a lot of these buggers are smart! even though there are enough stupid ones). Would I buy this game? Had I not rented it - yes. I have yet to test its lasting appeal, but with such a limit on games available right now, this one is arguably the cream of the crop.
The must play PS3 game     On: 2007-01-27

I have never been a big fan of first person shooters. To me most of the games seem to have the same revolving storyline with you being the hero. The FPS genre has become the sure fire top game seller over the past several years. So it was no surprise to me when Sony announced that their biggest launch title would be Resistance Fall of Man. I was less than enthusiastic about it and was hoping for something a little different to help persuade my buying decision. When I eventually bought a PS3 last week I reluctantly purchased this game. The positive reviews are what caused me to hope for something good at least. When I eventually got a chance to sit down and play the game I became more than enthusiastic. Resistance is a very well put together game with excellent physics, A.I., and graphics. Now I am not going to compare graphics or gameplay to other shooters. All I can say is this game has excellent visual effects when watching the destruction take place. Some of the environments are amazingly detailed with a sense of watching a good sci-fi movie set in the 1950s. I was captivated with the excellent storyline and the larger than life plot. Nothing about your character is average...but he is also not some superhero that looks like he works out everyday. The A.I. is amazing in this game and it shows how well the enemy can anticipate your moves. I was having problems in a building because everytime I thought the enemy was moving in the other direction he would come right up on me and open fire. Hopefully this an indication of what developers can do on the cell based architechture. We will see. Now as far as graphics are concerned. I would say this game was not a show stopper. Its presented in 720p and is set with numerous dark Earth tones. I believe this was the intention of the developer when setting the mood. Obviously chilling would be a key word. Some of the textures are amazing and the explosion and smoke effects are superb. Although playing this game also helps me realize they still have a long way to go on taking the PS3 to its limits.

Playing online is very impressive. The times I have played it never had trouble finding me a room which had several people playing. If you are looking for an intriguing story and generally a very good game to keep you busy over the next month or two then this is it.

Very good     On: 2007-01-25

This is one of the best launch games on the ps3 (next to Marvel Ultimate Alliance). This game has a mix of diffrent game/movies. Doom + Call of duty + Resident evil + Alien = Resistance: fall of man

-----Story

This is a First person shooter (FPS) taking place in Europe in 1951 where a virus broke out in Russia and is spreading to England. Main misson is stop the Chimera and stop the virus from spreading. You are part of the American forces that are aiding England in there fight agenst the Chimera.

-----Overall
Gameplay: awesome: I love the controller fuction when you get grabbed by an enemy you have to physiclly move the controller left and right. Yes you get grabbed! By what......zombie like things.

Online/muilti-play: have no idea! But IF I knew I bet it would be The Best (play w/ 40 people at once). Co-op is Fun! it is always more fun with more people.

Sound: oy! man surround sound would sound CRAZY!!! Good sound

Reply: Yes but depending on who you are. One example is if you want to play and beat the game on the hardest level and/or getting all the unlockables. Then yes, the game is replyable.

To sum it all up this game will be fun while it lasts and hope for a bigger and better sequal.

Oh...almost forgot....DO NOT compare ps3 games to Xbox360 games. Why? cuz the 360 has been out for a year so they had time to make some of the crazyest games. Plus, do you think that the ps3 will come out with there best games first....they are called launch games for a reason. Just give the ps3 some time.
Solid Effort     On: 2007-01-25

Resistance is a solid game. It is well done, and worth the purchase. The game does a lot of things right. First, it is actually fairly long. Considering some other games that have been released lately, this is a marathon. This game is also well done, and has a very polished feel to it. The multiplayer is also very good, and better then anything else on any console. The graphics are pretty good. In general, the environment is detailed, and the character models look very good. Overall it is a very nice visual experience. However, one problem I have is the graphics are fairly simplistic. The graphics in Resistance lack detailed texturing, that other games do have. This isnt necessarily bad, or visually unappealing, I just think the PS3 is capable of way more, and it would be nice to see it right away. This can however be beneficial, because the game plays very smooth, with no slow downs. Even when there is a lot of activity, the game does not skip a beat. I really do like the story, and the way it is told. This game really had me wanting to keep playing, just to see what happens next. Gears did not.

Even though the game does a lot of things right, there are some things that could be improved. The gameplay, while fun, is simplistic at best. Resistance has a very traditional shooter feel to it. There is very little tactical gameplay involved. It has an almost Doom feel to it. Now while this certainly does not make it a bad game, I do like more tactical shooters. I dont see why even sci fi / fantasy shooters, cant have a touch of realism to them. This leads me to my biggest complaint. I am not a big fan of the weapons. There are a few I did like. The shotgun, the sniper rifle, and the M5 I think are probably the best alternate history military weapons yet. However, shooting them is not that fun. The sounds are weak, and the weapons lack any real punch to them. Even though the Chimera regenerate, they just kind of twitch when hit them until they die. Then they go flying. That needs improvement.

Overall, its not perfect, groundbreaking, or world shattering. However, it is a quality game. If you like shooters, you will enjoy it. It also has a very large replay value, since the second time you play through it, you start finding new weapons that were unavailable the first time around.
Not worth the price     On: 2007-01-22

I bought this game after seeing all of the good reviews it got. Ive since tried to find some reason other than lack of titles for the PS3 that would make this game more fun. If you played Halo before, you will have been spoiled by good AI. These enemies seem to be on rails like back in the pre-PS2 era of games. The only time I really get excited playing is when I get ambushed by groups of bad guys. I havent been able to play online yet, so if you can you might enjoy this game more. Playing this game single player though, graphics and a couple interesting weapons are the strongest points in this game. Story, well, I feel it is like a Harry Turtledove novel, if thats what you like here you go.

After playing gears I was just to spoiled on how well the game looked. This games gun models are great, but the textures and environments are weak. Graphics are a huge part of the game for me. Also the controller for the ps3 blows and is unnatural for FPS. Sry, but its science.

Gears of What???     On: 2007-01-17

I am really, really picky about my FPSs. Over the years, only Halo, Halo 2, Half Life 2, Socom 2, and Counterstrike have been able to make me say "wow" and keep playing for months. My games have to have it all (story, gameplay, online, sound). This is another one to add to that list. Resistance is all around incredible. I would say this is one of my favorite games ever (and thats saying a ton for a launch title). The single player comes second only to Half Life 2 and the multiplayer is on par and may be even a little better than the rest of the titles I mentioned. I have been playing relentlessly since launch and plan to play for months to come. Throw in the coop op mode and all the unlockables and leveling up in the online game and you have an instant classic.

Probably the biggest stand out in the game are the weapons. This game has a weapon that shoots through walls for goodness sake. The sniper rifle slows down time. Even the rocket launcher can be stopped in midair, fire its own volley of rockets, and then be aimed again and launched in another direction. Its just amazing how much thought and innovation went into these weapons. The sound is great, the story in engaging, and the graphics are very good. They arent Gears of War good, but then again, Resistance puts more than 4 creatures on the screen at ones and keeps a steady framerate.

And last but not least, the online play (20 vs 20) is LAG FREE. I have yet to see one instance of lag in my entire time playing the online game, and everyone else seems to have the same results.

All in all, this game is amazing, and the fact that it is a launch title makes it all the more impressive. BUY THIS NOW. If your waiting to buy your ps3, BUY IT THEN.
Solid, Intense, Fun FPS     On: 2007-01-15

Nothing really new here, but the funnest first person shooter since BLACK. The controls run so smoothly you dont even have to worry; they come as 2nd nature after a little while. The game(single player mode)reminds me of a sci-fi-ish Call of Duty, where most of the enemies look like Eddie from an Iron Maiden album cover. The graphics are very detailed; There are some truly crazy battle parts, a nice weapons variety, and some cool vehicle stuff(and I usually hate it when they put those into a FPS). And while I have seen most of what was in here before, its hard to fault a game when they do it so well. Cant wait to see what the new Killzone is like...
Fairly decent first person shooter     On: 2007-01-15

This game doesnt really have anything that I havent already seen, and I think the gameplay has pretty much the same feel as Halo (which really isnt a bad thing). But the graphics are great (although it only goes up to 720p), the weapons are interesting, the controls are very easy to learn (even though I am used to FPS games on the PC), and the campaign is fun, especially playing with a buddy in co-op. Online multiplayer isnt bad either. I believe the only downsides are that the end of the campaign is a little disappointing and overall the storyline becomes boring and predictable even though it seems somewhat interesting and original at first, and there is no in-game option to change from vertical to horizontal split screen (it seems that youre stuck with vertical on an HDTV).
However, it turns out that even though this game doesnt really bring anything new and has a couple of things that annoy me, its still a very fun game overall and a great title to own if you already have a PS3.
Nice     On: 2007-01-13

I love this game. It is nice at first i was scepticle becausethe demo sucked. I got the full verison and nice it has a story in my opinion like it better than Gears Of War. Graphis were nice too but a little hard in superhuman. AThis game is the only reson I like PS3 or i was depressed buying one.
720p     On: 2007-01-10

This is the #1 game for the PS3, and yet it only supports 720p and not 1080p. I want my money back. Actually, it still looks very good on my 37" 1080p LCD and is pretty fun to play, especially online (up to 40 person games). The 720p is still weak though.
Very engrossing - especially with surround sound at night.     On: 2007-01-09

Very playable, great controls, camera and story line. Just think Ratchet and Clank - the same folks made this one.

CAUTION - This is an M-Mature game, NO KIDDING, some naughty language and VIOLENT images.
Not bad but...     On: 2007-01-05

As an avid PC gamer, I have a fairly high standard for video games. Clearly the PS3 possesses some serious horse-power and potential. Visually this game is on par with very high end PC games. In terms of actual gameplay its pretty average. I am pretty comfortable with a keyboard and mouse so adjusting to the PS3 controller for a first person shooter is a bit tricky but I dont blame Resistance: Fall of Man for that. The truth is that so far (granted Ive only played the game for about an hour) Im not particularly awestruck by this game.

Any PC FPS enthusiast knows Half-Life 2 and BattleField 2 really are the state of the art and so far this game on the PS3 isnt in the same league.

Good but not great.
A NON FPS gamers review     On: 2007-01-05

As a gamer I am highly attracted towards figting games, rpgs, platformers, rts, mmorpg, and adventure type games. FPS games all look the same to me, until I dscovered resistance. As far as graphics and visuals are concerenced...duh its a PS3. As far as gameplay extraordinarly fun, great weapons, great story, (AN ACTUALLY SOMEWHAT BELIEVEABLE FPS IS HARD TO FIND THIS IS ONE OF THEM), and smart enemies. Keep in mind I have played a GOOD fps since 007 golden-eye (yea its been that long) so fellow NON-FPS gamers brush up on your inverted Y, hopping, ducking, because Resistance for the PS3 is a great buy!
Good time had by all     On: 2007-01-04

I bought my PS3 and bought this game with it the same day. Im not much of a FPS guy and I have not played one since Doom, so yes Im well aware Im behind the times but this one I heard was really good and worth it.

Playing the one player mode is pretty good, lots of action all around and some pretty intense spots but I think this game really shines in the co-op mode. I never had so much fun as when my buddy came over and we played it for a good 5 hours before we looked up. The weapons are pretty cool and the levels are big and not too complex that you dont know where youre going or where to go next. For a guy who doesnt play these games much I had a sweet time playing co-op mode and just rushing in and seeing how long you could last while youre being fired at by 30 guys. You also get some fun using a tank and a jeep and then an alien crawler thing.. pretty good gun battles. The controls take a little getting used to, using both of the sticks and then the R1 button and then the R3 button to zoom in.. it takes some time but once you get it down, its well worth it.

Overall if youre not really a FPS shooter kinda person rent this game then play it with a friend and I gurantee youll buy it! and dont forget the deathmatch stuff as well.. try not having fun with rocket launchers, endless ammo and a big city to try and search for the other guy in.. come on!!
The best PS3 game right now...     On: 2007-01-03

This is by far the best PS3 game so far. Obviously there will be much better games to come but this game has an amazing storyline, incredible graphics, entertaining online play, a sweet cooperative mode. The game is action packed and is a lot of fun. I would highly suggest it to PS3 owners.
Amazing Game! My First PS3 Purchase :-)     On: 2007-01-02

Regardless of what some say, the graphics ARE amazing! I was and still am blown away by the PS3s capabilities. Resistance: Fall Of Man is a great creepy 1st person shooter that has great gameplay, excellent music, and amazing graphics. You cant go wrong, a must purchase for PS3 owners.
Wannabe HALO!!!! ... Stop stealing ideas!     On: 2006-12-30

This game is VERY similar to the Xbox game HALO. Since HALO is the best shooter game of all time, its no surprise that playstation would steel the fad since they dont have any other ideas of their own. This game is ok, but nothing out there really beats HALO.
Not as impressive as I thought
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-12-30

The graphics arent as good as everyone say. But tha first wave of games for the playstation 3 are crappy. fortunately, there are very big titles coming out next summer. The only good games for the playstation 3 right now are fall of man and that one boxing game. My suggestion to buyers is to wait another 3 months.
Slightly Disappointed     On: 2006-12-29

Bought this as my first game for the PS3 since it seems to be the best game out right now. The graphics are ok, but theyre not spectacular (reminds me of the PS2). The gameplay seems a little too cartoonish (Nintendo cartoonish). My expectations may have been set too high after playing Gears of War on the Xbox 360, which is a masterpiece. The game is ok, but I expected something better to show off the PS3s capabilities. This game left me slightly disappointed.

Great Shooter Game for Beginners and above     On: 2006-12-29

I normally dont like first person shooter games because they are too hard for the casual gamer and require a big time investment. But this game gives a gamer like me a challenge with lots of save points. Great for saving time and reducing repitition. I also enjoy the multi-player option, where I can run around a map with a friend and try to shoot each other. The online multi-player option is fun and easy to get started with, however, Im generally playing against players who spend a lot more time figuring out strategy and weapons than I do.
So, this game has a ton of features that will delight both the casual and advanced gamer. Graphics are also great and the controls are easy to use.

Immersive Action     On: 2006-12-27

Been playing console first person shooters for years, and I have to say that this one gave me the most pleasure (followed by Halo, probably). I would rate it as a full-bladder game -- I played the bulk of the adventure needing to use the bathroom, but too interested to see what happens next to actually press pause and get up.

Gun selection, replay value, graphics, and (especially) plot, were excellent. While playing Gears of War on the 360 left me feeling frustrated (biggest complaint being that it was difficult to tell my own team from the enemy), this one was just unmitigated fun. I would complain only by saying that the beginning of the game was probably more difficult than the end, so for those players who find frustration in the first chapter, have faith that once your character gains the ability to regenerate, things get a lot more interesting.

Its a game of jawdropping beauty on a big HDTV. That said, I cant recommend a $600 system with only one solid game to anybody who doesnt have the TV to make the most out of it. If you have the bucks, the TV and the faith that Sony will pull through with more games, however, step up to the plate and enjoy the ride.
Resistance: Fall Of Man is UT04 meets COD.     On: 2006-12-26

I know everyone says this game is HL2 meets COD but thats only the single player. The single player is a great alternate reality story that will pull you in forcing you to play till the end. The online experience of Sony PSN network and servers hosted by Insomniac make a lag free frag feast of epic proportions. The Online takes weapons that nearly match the insane fun of Unreal Tournament weapons, wrapped with UT04 style gameplay, with COD like soldiers and UT04 style aliens.
This game is sick     On: 2006-12-25

Ive never played a war game before this game is tight. Its like counter strike meets resident evil with a great story. It has really awesome graphics and the best weapons ive used in a first person shooter. Currently the only game I own for ps3 and Im confident its the best available for the time being. If you love action, suspense, and whole lot of options in game play definitley pick this up.
PC players, stay away     On: 2006-12-25

Ive been playing mostly first-person-shooters over the last 10 years, all on PC. I also play console games, but I never tried a console FPS before. I bought this game because of the rave reviews, and hoping that it would support a keyboard and a mouse. Well, that was a bad choice... The graphics are gorgeous and the plot is nice, but the controls are just too frustrating. Aiming with an analog stick is not only harder, it makes the characters movements unnatural. I feel like Im playing Doom all over, with better graphics.
I guess you get used to it after a few hours, but a mouse is just so much more intuitive and precise, and would make the experience so much more enjoyable.
In my opinion, not being able to use a pointing device in a FPS is the biggest reason why consoles will still fail to capture a lot of PC players... This game is no different. So PC players, beware...

Next gen graphics, average gameplay
by: mdizzog    On: 2006-12-25

Resistance is in no way a revolutionary game. Those will probably come down the line with MGS4 and FF13. However, when one is conflicted as to what game to start playing with their PS3, Resistance is probably the best choice.

The graphics are good. The cinematics are mostly done with the high-end graphics of the PS3, and the character models are definetly something to see. The environments can seem simple at times, with nearly empty rooms filled with square boxes and stuff. It isnt until you are outside shooting at masses of enemies between buses or in fogged out gray areas that you really get to experience the game.

The gameplay itself isnt bad. The enemies utilize cover, and will hit you if they shoot at you. You however, cant really utilize cover. You cant peak around corners or cover up to a wall. This is a feature they really should of added. The guns though make up for it. They all do different things, and its up there with Half-Life 2.

The single player game is good to see what the game is about, but it feels like it was made for multiplayer. The multiplayer portion is very smooth. It supports up to 40 people, but even a few players in a grimy, gray environment can really make things interesting.

I would highly recommend Resistance to people who want to test out their PS3. In the future though, this one might not stand the test of time.
Resistance: Fall of Man - Full Review     On: 2006-12-23

My Setup:
PS3 60GB hooked up via HDMI to Samsung 40" LCD 1080p HDTV and Panasonic 5.1 surround sound speaker system

My Ratings (1=garbage, 10=perfection):
Gameplay - 8/10
Storyline - 7/10
Replay Value - 7/10
Multiplayer - 7/10
Graphics - 8/10
Sound - 8/10
Overall - 8/10

The Storyline:
The game is set around 1950 and has a certain World War 2 feel to it. But, in the game world, WW2 never happened. Instead, a virus had originated in Russia causing those infected to change into war-hungry mutants, apparently bent on world domination. The Chimera stayed isolated within Russia for over a decade, supposedly building up numbers and developing their superior technology. Then, after a decade of silence, they attacked. The Chimera swept across the European continent, leaving no one alive; infecting those they did not kill. The only remaining human resistance forces are trying to regain some ground in England. The Americas had actually been somehow unaffected by all of this and are just now joining the fray to help out their British allies. You are Nathan Hale, a U.S. sergeant, and you will help to turn the tide. The game does a good job of keeping you in the storyline by having lots of cutscenes mixed in between levels. The cutscenes are frequent, but are well spaced out, and are short enough not to keep you from the action for long.

Gameplay:
The game looks and feels like a blend of Call of Duty 2/3 and Half-Life 2. The PS3 controls are very responsive and dont take long at all to get used to. By the end of the first mission, you should have all of the controls down and be ready to tackle the rest of the games action. This shooter combines massive battle elements (where youre a part of a squad fighting through waves of enemies in a massive battle), more traditional shooter elements (where you corridor crawl toward a set destination and take out any enemies in your path), and a few other elements which have become standard for all successful shooters (vehicles, etc.). However, the game creates a well rounded combination of each, creating an enjoyable experience rather than improvised annoyance. While there is no purely original content (besides the different storyline), the game successfully delivers more of what you love about shooters.

Enemies and Weapons:
Insomniac has given the game a mix of traditional weapons (ie. machine gun, shotgun, sniper ripple) and new, creative weapons of their own (ie. a gun that can shoot through walls, a gun that has homing bullets). Youll find yourself using all of these weapons at certain times as you battle through the game, since they all serve a unique purpose and are not just there for the cool factor. The enemies in Resistance: Fall of Man are fierce looking and they put up a good fight. The AI is good - enemies take cover, flank, and work together to try to take you out. The difficulty settings are configured quite well, so that a casual player will be able to progress and enjoy the game just as much as a hardcore player.

Graphics and Sound:
The game is rendered at 720p resolution, and even if you run the game on the best HDTV, you wont find anything better than what you may have seen on a PCs or an XBOX360 so far. That being said, the graphics are not sub-par either. While many will claim that the game looks no different graphically than Call of Duty 3 for the XBOX360, if you look carefully you can see some distinguishing elements, albeit few. The sound is quite good and plays a role in making you feel like youre in the game. And if you have a surround speaker system hooked up, youll get a good kick from the sounds coming from the sides and behind you, which will make you turn your head at times while youre playing.

Multiplayer:
Id say the multiplayer is at par with anything else out there. The developers even threw in some new modes for you and your friends to play around with. Online gameplay definitely adds to the replay value of the game and if youre looking for this game for the multiplayer angle, you wont be disappointed. If you like co-op gameplay as I do, this game has it. You can play through the game split-screen with a friend.

Overall:
I would definitely recommend this game, as would many people that have played it. It is undoubtedly the best game out of the PS3 launch titles, and it will probably keep that standing well into spring 2007.
Must have title for sure

OK, the game has great graphics and all this other stuff that people are saying and arent talking about the multiplayer modes. Ok, you have your classic deathmach and capture the flag, but the best online mode is breach. It will keep you playing for months. Then there is meltdown where you capture nodes. Thats great too. And another which is hard to spell, but it is where you fight to the death basically as human and chimera. Best multiplayer game of the year.
Fantastic shooter

Since I couldnt get a ps3 this year, I went over to my friends house because he was one of the lucky ones who actually got his hands on it. So far he has Call of Duty 3, Madden 07, Fight Night Round 3, and Resistance Fall of Man. Resistance is by far the best game out of the entire bunch. Great graphics, excellent sound, and a multiplayer mode that will keep you playing till a sequel comes out. Best game so far for the ps3.
Set your PS3 sights on Resistance     On: 2006-12-18

On November 17th the minority of those purchasing a PlayStation 3 for their own gaming experiences and not for profitable online auctioning had the chance to play one of the best first-person shooters in years. During my splendid time with this video game I couldnt help but draw comparisons to other games, as Resistance has a lot in common with great games like Halo, Half-Life, Call of Duty, and even Gears Of War. It takes some of the best aspects from each of these games and molds an experience that shouldnt be missed by PlayStation 3 owners or shooter fans. Insomniacs Resistance: Fall of Man might be the only worthy exclusive PlayStation 3 game for quite some time, and if youre sporting a PlayStation 3 in your home, Resistance should be spinning inside of it Viva la Resistance

Resistances storyline is set in an alternate reality. Its the 1950s, but not the hip-thrusting Elvis Presley days that demonized generations to come. World War II never took place, and terrorizing the eastern world in place of Adolf Hitler and his fellow Nazis is a terrifying race of aliens known as the Chimera. The Chimera have all but seized Asia and most of Europe. The only hope for humankind seems to be in the trigger finger of the U.S. Armys Nathan Hale, a brutish but speechless soldier who instead lets his guns do the talking. Unfortunately, none of the games characters are developed much more than what was just explained. With a few spoilers avoided, it should be said that you probably shouldnt be playing Resistance for a gripping storyline. No, you should instead be playing it for the thrilling ride that you havent felt since Halo.

Resistances 30 levels are among the most intense and entertaining in a virtual form. As Hale youll fight endless amounts of Chimera forces in war-torn cities, wet and twisty Chimera caves, and large, vegetated European fields. There are more than eight weapons to take out the multiple kinds of Chimera located in each level. Truth be told, those latter two factors are what make Resistance worth your holiday cash. Resistance: Fall of Mans armory isnt equipped with a single pea-shooting pistol; in fact, all eight of the weapons youll find in your first play-through are extremely useful at several points through out the game, if not throughout. They all also feature a secondary fire mode. Youll start the game with the always-trusty M5A2 Carbine rifle, which has plenty of range to take out enemies from afar as well as a grenade launcher attached to take out small groups of pesky Chimera. Youll find the Bullseye, which allows you to shoot around corners and from behind cover at exposed enemies. Then theres the Rossmore 236, a shotgun with a double-power, double-shot blast that sends anything pesky to a bloody spot on the floor. The Auger lets you shoot shells through walls, and through each solid barrier the round becomes even more deadly. Even more interesting is the XR-003 Sapper that allows you to plop organic mines throughout a room that can be detonated on enemy contact or with the press of the alternate fire button. It would be unfair to forget mentioning Resistances four types of grenades, from the standard but trusty fragmentation grenade to the gruesome, needle-spewing Hedgehog grenade.

The enemies that youll kill with Resistances arms are almost as entertaining as your tools themselves. The game is benefitted strongly by having A.I. that will outright punish you if you decide to take a rest and wait around behind cover. Theyll flank. Theyll get into better positions. Theyll run from your grenades. Theyll simply pursue you until one party is on the ground, dead as dirt. The standard fodder, the Hybrid, is a common foe throughout the game. Up-close-and-personal pests called Menials will slowly stalk you through corridors, lurching at you and lashing at your helpless character while you shake the SIXAXIS maniacally to shrug off the leeching enemy. Grey Jacks will run at ridiculous speeds to slash at you with their claws. The Flood Parasites from Halo have met their match, Resistances Crawlers and Rollers are an equally if not more annoying and pesky foe, as they explode out of nests or crawl seemingly out of nowhere to rush your position and overpower you. Every Chimera foe is fearsome and can take you out if you dont use good tactics, take advantage of each weapon, and learn to fight well in your environment.

Distractions from the corridor-crawling and room-clearing include several highly-entertaining vehicular sequences. Not since Halo have these action-packed sequences been done so well. Driving jeeps, tanks, and even the Chimeras own spider-like Stalker robots is simple enough while pressing a single button allows you to jump out of the drivers seat to man a powerful turret or sit in the passengers seat and fire away with your own weapons.

All in all the single-player campaign is a lengthy one; even lengthier than Halo 2 and Gears of War. Its also made highly replayable by unlockable weapons and even secrets that can be earned by finding "Skill Points." Skill Points are earned by doing some sort of action throughout the game, and in more cases than that, in a specific level. For example, shortly after finding the games L23 Fareye sniper rifle you can earn Skill Points if you shoot the heads of a certain number of Hybrids. If you "corpse hump" 15 dead Hybrids or incinerate an entire group of enemies with the fiery Air-Fuel Grenade, youll earn some more. On top of all of this, theres an entire online multiplayer setup that allows 40 players to play in six different game modes. A cool bonus is that each gamer can choose between human characters or Chimera characters, and each race yields different strengths. The Chimera can enter a short frenzy where theyre more powerful than normal, while humans can sprint away from oncoming enemies and bullets.

The PlayStation 3s visual capabilities are shown quite well with Resistance: Fall of Man, with its highly-detailed environments, fluid animations, impressive and intricate character models, and well-done cinematic sequences. The deadly Chimera models are alone worth praise, but the only problem is that there seems to be a slight artistic identity crisis; the 1950s environments and the science fiction Chimera set pieces conflict quite a lot. Still, fiery explosive effects and other particle effects round out a fantastic visual performance that looks nothing less than stunning on any high-definition set. The sound is also well worth mentioning; sound effects rip right out of the speakers while appropriate action- and emotion-based music will fill in as background ambience.

All in all, flaws are few and far between. There were a few frustrating times throughout the campaign where checkpoints seemed too spread out and sometimes there were just a few too many super-annoying Crawlers to kill. Ammo seems to be a very, very rare commodity, while health items arent.

Resistance: Fall of Man is as good of a flagship launch title as Sony could ask for. Insomniac has proven itself for a few years with their Ratchet and Clank franchise, and Spyro the Dragon before that. Resistance: Fall of Man shows that the developer also has a talent for first-person shooters, and a keen ability to make a whopping next-generation video game. Resistance: Fall of Man is THE PlayStation 3 game to own.
Had to have this game     On: 2006-12-14

Well, when i bought my PS3 I knew that i had to have this game. I love 1st person shooter games so i knew that i would be happy. This game is tough, which is good, but i have to say that the graphics are almost PS2 area. I was expecting ALOT MORE. The levels are too short, too. Some only take around 30 minutes to complete. All in all this game is something, even though i beat it last night, i will play more and more to find all the extras. This is a good game, but IMO, wait for the price to go down or buy used.
world war II meets Doom ..what more can you ask for? a winner for the ps3     On: 2006-12-07

just got my playstation 3 today..and ive heard a lot of hype surrounding this title so after trying a brief demo at target i picked it up... i was really floored this game is fantastic! if you like the call of duty series or the doom series...this merges them together perfectly...

this game looks alike call of duty 3 but with the creepy doom touch...the villians are hidious and are fun to shoot down...this game is very gritty and bloody..so i would not give this to 4 year old johnny on his bithday ... but if you like a great shooter this delivers in spades...its not halo or gears of war and, it dosent try to be but it works...lots of action..you better watch your back when you play this one!

the graphics are detailed and show off the playstation 3 nicely. and the sound is top notch..its the must have launch title if you dont believe me check out the other reviews even x-play on the g4 network rave about this game ... bottom line..if you have a ps3 grab this one..also call of duty 3...

My setup is as follows:

Sony Wega 36" HDTV (tube) with 720p/1080i, ps3 using HDMI cable, yamaha 7.1 receiver with infinity 7.1 setup. 360 connected via component inputs.

For a launch game this game is pretty good but compared to more refined second generation games it is just not all that fun. It is more of the same in my mind, nothing revolutionary. I would compare the graphics to that of the Call of Duty 2/3 line for the 360 but the environments seem a little more expansive. The frame rates stay high in the game and the controls are very responsive. They also seem to have good collision detection. I wish the environment was more destructive and to have a continuous gameplay like they 360 does with Gears of War, xbox with halo/halo 2. I believe the online will be fun but the lack of the PS3s in the market place and the overall cost will prevent me from playing with my friends like on do on the xbox/360 thus the lasting appeal of the game is lower.

My hands-on experience...     On: 2006-12-07

I dont know how any one can get the real picture on this game with reviews from the fanboys and haters being so predominant. I hope my review is helpful to you.

This is the best first-person-shooter for a SONY platform. The gameplay is fun and solid. Controls are responsive and, as stated by another reviewer, hit detection is accurate. Its a must own launch title for the PS3.

The graphics are in a bit "flat". They dont have that multi-dimension feel that I expected from a next-gen title on such a powerful system. Theres no depth to inanimate objects such as grass, boxes, chairs and so forth. Also, you can just run right through dead characters. You dont have the ability to push the bodies around. Also, when walking through grass you literally walk "through" it. It doesnt move you just pass through it. The environments also arent very interactive. Theres not much more you can do besides run, hide and shoot.

The smoothness of the gameplay is impressive. Even when there are loads of characters on screen everything still runs smoothly. This is a testament to the PS3s power. That being said, it also means that this game doesnt really stress the hardware. Resistance delivers and goods and does everything well.

We have to remember that the PS3 is still in its infancy and has a way to go before the software catches up to the hardware. Well have to wait for the next round of high end games to find out just what the PS3 is capable of.

When I first saw this game in 2005, I thought it would be a load of garbage. Well a year has passed and I have really changed my mind about this game. The graphics are gorgeous, The sound is great, and the online modes are near perfect. My favorite game for my playstation collection.

Must have for the PS3     On: 2006-11-29

A review of Resistance: Fall of Man is a simple one to write. Its the best game out of all the launch titles.

Assuming you are old enough to play a Mature rated game (kiddos definitely shouldnt be playing this), then this is the game to buy. Single player mode is fantastic. Graphics are wonderful and the enemies are S M A R T! They will try to run around objects and buildings to flank you as you try to take cover.

The game also include cooperative play, so you and a friend can both play through the levels at the same time. A very nice feature. Where this game stands out in my mind though is the online play. Simply fantastic. Plus they keep track of your stats after the game is over so you can move up in rank and get unlocks.

I have Call of Duty 3 and would recommend Resistance over CoD unless youre a hardcore history buff. If youre looking for just a good game, Resistance is it.

Great graphics, mediocre gameplay     On: 2006-11-28

I played this game for an hour at my rich friends house on his 62 flatscreen HD TV. All I could say about the graphics were, WHOA. however, the gameplay reminds me of black, or killzone without the good story, it just felt as if it missing something. I have played many great shooters, this game however is only worth it for 19.99 or less. (if that is possible for next gen games...). Do yourself a favor and just buy COD, for a low price and superior gameplay.
GARBAGE Compared to Gears of War     On: 2006-11-28

If you think this game is good please pick up Gears of War and an XBox 360 and buy yourself a clue. This game is GARBAGE compared to GoW. Worse graphics, worse gameplay, worse all around.

This game is just another generic lifeless shooter game, nothing special about it. Its sad that the PS3 launch lineup is so weak that this is the only game that stands out. Meanwhile XBox 360 players have been enjoying REAL HD graphics in a REAL next generation system for a year now. PS3tanic fanbois eat your heart out.

The Greatest Launch Game
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-26

This is by far my favorite game. Ive been playing it for about 12 hours now and it is just plain awesome. If you want to play one of the best games of 2006. Resistance Fall of Man is the #1 choice. The multiplayer is also great.
My Favorite Online Game
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-26

40 player online, great graphics, awesome sound, good atmoshere, and killer battles. This game has it all in a wrapped of package of greatness, and its worth getting a PS3. Best online game I have ever played. Buy it today.
Good graphics, but a flat game     On: 2006-11-24

The game looks pretty good, though not even close to a game like Gears of War (xbox360). It has decent level design, but ultimately the game falls flat and feels rather dull. The art style is derivate and uninspired as well as the gameplay. In the few days that Ive had my PS3 Ive had more fun playing the motostorm demo than this game. Hopefully some better games will come out soon.

Decent game, but definitely NOT next-gen     On: 2006-11-22

I really expect LOTS more from my PS3 that the old COD-look! graphics look cartoonish. Gameplay is decent, but not outstanding. I want to have a serious threat for gears of war, not a beefed-up COD!

OK but not very impressive     On: 2006-11-19

Everything about this game is average. I know its just a launch title but when this game and system is so overhyped i expected alot more. The sound is ok, the controls are decent but it just doesnt seem to have the quality of game im used to on XBOX 360. I am sure this will not be an issue later on but i was expecting more from a $600.00 machine. I just hope the other games coming out are not just XB360 ports. Let us pray
Great Shooter Title for the PS3
by: lisashea-dot-com    On: 2006-11-19

Resistance - Fall of Man is a first person shooter that combines World War II era environments with Doom-like horrific enemies to fight. It also offers great online multiplayer gameplay.

The plot is that, around the time of World War II, enemies attacked the world, starting with Russia and moving westward through Europe and England. In the 50s, the US launched a counter-attack, landing in England. Youre fighting, at least to start with, with WWII era weapons and outfits through the streets of England.

Lets start with the graphics. The game goes for a very Call of Duty style of look - not quite realistic, more "cartooney" or stylized. Textures are smoothed out, some objects are simplified. Thats not to say this is a Disney kiddie look. The monsters are grimey and nasty looking, the war-torn streets are very gritty. If anything, because this is set in a WWII type atmosphere, much of the game is brown, grimy and shell-shocked.

The HUD is reasonably well done and not intrusive. A small series of bars on the left indicates your health. An equally small but useful display on the right tracks your ammo, magazines and grenades.

The sound leans towards epic thundering scores, a la Gladiator or Conan. Players who love heavy rock music might not enjoy this, but I actually love this kind of music. I own both of the soundtracks I mentioned :). So to me, this really draws you into the atmosphere. The yells, gun noises and so on seem relatively realistic to help you feel youre really in the middle of a fight. I also like that, during gameplay, its usually done without music. If Im trying to sneak somewhere and listen for enemy movement, I dont want that objective made difficult by a soundtrack.

Gameplay itself is typical FPS fare. You can crouch, jump over things, zoom in on your enemy, throw grenades, strafe, and so on. Your friends and enemies are rather good about taking cover and not just rushing an enemy head-on. There are a few situations which seem quite scripted - if your pals are meant to die, you could play perfectly and take out every enemy quickly and your friends will still be killed by mysterious off-screen snipers. Still, the game needs to keep you on course for the plot so this is to be expected.

Checkpointing is reasonably good, although sometimes it sends you further back then you might like to start again. Healing is done via canisters you find, but depending on your skill you might wish there were more canisters scattered around :). Thats why they have 3 levels of difficulty here.

The interactivity with your environment is pretty impressive. Say your enemy is hiding behind a car. You can shoot out the cars windows and then shoot the enemy through the open space. Or you can shoot the car to damage it, and have it explode a la the infamous red exploding barrels found in most shooting games. If you shoot at a window a few times, it will first crack, then pieces will fall out.

Not only is the game great in single player mode, but you can play co-op with a friend at your home, or online in larger groups with friends or strangers from around the world. This helps turn the game from a play-for-a-few-months-at-home style game to a play-eternally-with-friends-online game.

Well recommended!
Wow great game but you can find it for a better price...     On: 2006-11-18

This is a great game mixing three of the greatest games of all time; Halo, Doom 3, and Medal of Honor. It looks great like all three, it feels sooo smooth, and it is up to 40 player multiplayer online! It takes Halos grenade options (at least 4), Halos "infested" bad guys who want to infest you, and Halos melee attacks. It looks like Medeal of Honor even down to the way you zoom in with vintage weapons! It throws in the Doom 3 monsters looking extremely freaky and often quite horrific. With all these great games in one what more could you ask for, well, unique alien weapons, controlable tanks, immersive environments, enemies you must litirally shake off (shake the controller), also interactive environments such as fire you must shake off (again the controller), and soo much more it really is quite easy to go on but now I must go play it. Oh and it is the best but dont pay $88 for it when you can pay just $60.
Resistance IS Futile     On: 2006-11-18

Simply a brilliant FPS. Reminds me alot of the call of duty series and the area-51 FPS from 2004. Has all of the elements of a good first person shooter and none of the bad ones. Visuals are STUNNING. If you were able to remove the weapon from the screen, youd probably have people thinking you were watching a movie if they walked by your set. Controls are the smoothest Ive ever seen on a console FPS. Sound is awesome (there could be a bit more music however). A.I. is at its best. They will run from you, run after you when you try to reload or recharge your health, duck, dodge, annoy you and make you work for a kill. Brilliant! Ive beaten the game four times and Im still eager for more. Overall, an instant classic and by far the best launch title for the PS3. Its one of those games I could see myself still playing a year or two down the road.
A Review from Someone who Actually owns it     On: 2006-11-18

I got this game today with my PS3. It reminds me a lot of a Doom meets Call of Duty. Youre a soldier who is going out to kill some pretty ugly aliens. The gameplay is smooth - the aliens are an easy kill although I am finding health scarce. The graphics are awesome. I have a 720p tv. I know this is going to look sweet to anyone who has a 1080p. The game plays much like a movie, showing off the Blu Ray HD. The load time is fast and I am really happy with it. I own 5 games so far for the PS3 and this one and Call of Duty 3 are my favorites.
Resistance:FOM looks good!
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-11-16

OK Im not one to compare it to Gears of War since I havent played this game but GEOW is a great game and will end up selling like hotcakes. But R:FOM is a launch game for the third new PlayStation

Resistence is set in an alt universe where things like WWI and WWII had a different outcome and how aliens came, it will have both real and made-up weapons.

The game got good reviews from Japan, in which the PS3 has been released on the 11th, and USA and Canada are getting it on 17th and us as PAL players, is getting the PS3 in March sut sutt

I am no fanboi of any console, just before this gen I had a GC an Xbox and a PS2, But I have none of them now, I sold them on eBay last year in order to get ready for next gen.I have a 360, Im getting a Wii next then a PS3 at the end of 2007

I never get consoles at launch, Im skeptical as I might get a buggy console and the thing will be 200 more in price. So Ill be "monitoring" the PS3 until 2007

Right now the PS3 has only 4 good exclusives anounced, MGS4, dmc4, Mercs 2 and BIG
