MLB 07 The Show PS3     On: 2010-06-22

Its a very good baseball game, certainly more in-depth than Ken Griffey Jr.s Slugfest on the N64. However, Loud Pipes by Ratatat is the only bearable song in the game, and it wasnt super fun playing the game without music. I would recommend this to anybody that wants a baseball game on the extreme cheap; otherwise, get MLB 09 The Show or later because it supports custom soundtracks.
pretty good     On: 2009-05-01

i like this game im a little dissapointed that a few players are missing but its a good game
Fun,but also flawed.     On: 2008-02-25

The time Ive owned this game has been like a love/hate relationship. There are some things that separate this game from any other baseball game out there, like the Career Mode for example.Just the Career Mode alone gives this game hours and hours of replay value, and if you had a social life you can kiss it goodbye. But unfortunately, the entire experience isnt always fun.

My first problem with this game is the umpires.Whether you turn the umpire personality option on or off, they will still make some TERRIBLE calls more times than not.The strike zone never seems to be consistant, and eventually it does end up costing you a lot.

Then there is the AI.Sometimes they can be Einsteins, and sometimes theyre as dumb as a rock. For example,I can strike out 15 batters and pitch a shutout one game, then the very next they can hit any pitch I throw.Literally,I can throw something completely out the strike zone and theyll hit it into the stands every time. And there are times when Im fielding a ground ball and accidentally throw it over the first basemans glove, and hell just stand there. So if I dont run and get the ball I threw in a matter of time, the opposing batter can get an inside the park home run from a stupid minor error.

So while it is fun to develop your player in the career mode, the umps and AI can make it hellish as well.If Sony can fix up these problems for 08:The Show,it could be without a doubt the best baseball game ever made.

3.5/5
A Showing in Frusteration     On: 2008-02-09

I bought a PS 3 and since I love baseball games I knew I had to buy one, I had the standard pick between MLB 2K7 and MLB 07 The Show. I choose The Show for no reason other than it was the first one I put my hands on, after I got it home and ogled about how great the graphics look I started to really play it and look at it. That is where the fun stopped, after I was done being wowed by the graphics. My biggest complaint is with the pitching set up, I am a meter guy... I like using the meter to throw my pitches. I didnt have any problems in 07 The Show on my PS 2, it would seem that when they ported it.. they took the pitching meter, tweaked it and made it ultra sensitive. If you dont stop the backswing of the meter right on the line (or really, really close to it)... well you might as well forget it.. it is a ball. Even if you manage to stop it right on the line sometimes it is a ball. Another gripe with the pitching, when you line up your pitch in this game... you are setting up the break point... not the finishing point. So unless you have played through it a million times and know EXACTLY how each pitchers pitches break.. you are going to be throwing a lot of balls.. A LOT OF BALLS. It would also seem to me that the computer seems to play perfect ball even on the easiest setting and you are left playing not so perfect ball. Basically this title was a lot frustration than it was worth in my opinion but it was still somewhat fun and the graphics are amazing!!
Best Baseball Game for ps3     On: 2007-12-06

i initially bought 2k7 for the flashy graphics- but the horrendous framerate and joe morgan drove me away.

thank goodness this is available til the next MVP game arrives. the pitching is challenging and the batting interface is excellent. the guess pitch system makes for good, patient ABs - you might actually take a walk a couple times a game, which generally doesnt happen in video game baseball. as a pitcher you need to take care- pitches will not go exactly where you want them to. you wont be throwing no hitters right off the bat- again, another refreshing element to a baseball sim.

now heres a question:

i recently got a brand new samsung lcd- it resolves 720p -

i got my HDMI cable and plugged in the ps3. after a few months of playing MLB on my old CRT with rca cables, i was absolutely blown away with the looks of the game. HOWEVER, the next day i was ready to roll again, popped the game in again and this time while everything was bright and shiny, i couldnt help but notice some really grainy textures and jagged outlines. now maybe i just didnt notice these the first time because i was so impressed by the overall improvement and i know its unlikely that within 24 hours something "broke".

can any other players with HDtvs clue me in on their experience? did something bug out or is this just the way the game is?

thanks guys
Can't Wait for Next Year's Version!     On: 2007-10-28

I dont mean that as a knock on this game, it is a compliment. This years game was very good and was only the first next gen offering, so I can imagine how next years will be. I just recently purchased a PS3 and this was the first game on my radar. Ive been playing MLB 2K7 on the 360 until this point. Overall, this game is definitely superior. The gameplay is excellent. The presentation is very good, much like a TV broadcast. I think I was most surprised by the quality of the presentation. The graphics are certainly not as pretty as 2K7, but the animations are better and again, this is only their first next gen attempt. There are some glitches, but that is to be expected and none are so bad that they ruin the experience. At least none that I have encountered. Overall I highly recommend this game!
Realistic     On: 2007-08-25

Very realistic game play. You do have to learn how to use the controls for pitching, hitting, defensive plays and the hardest base running.

I bought and decided to keep it. The game is endless, which is what makes sport games valuable.
good game, but bad glitches     On: 2007-08-22

the game itself is a servicable baseball game - plays well, the new road to the show feature is incredibly addictive! However, there are just too many glitches to make it worth your time and the 60 dollars. The major issue Ive had (and heard others have) is the game freezing on the loading screen - It happens OFTEN! (and by that I mean, more often than not happening) - Im sure one could peruse the message boards of fight with technical support to find some way aroud it, but honestly for 60 dollars I expect many things of this software - one of which is not to fail to delivery on the most critical functionality - this issue is exacerbated by the fact that there appears to be no auto save feature.
in summation - good game, cool new features - with sub par graphics for the platform (I expected much more here!) and basically a complete inablitiy to consistently save game/season progress.
ones mans experience - hope it helps.

Best Baseball game I've ever played     On: 2007-07-19

As a ridiculously avid baseball fan Ive always been pretty picky about my baseball games. I never even considered buying anything but EA sports. Unfortunately EA no longer makes MLB games. After recently purchasing a PS3 and being faced with the decision between MLB 2k7 and MLB "The Show" I began looking into features and gameplay video. I can honestly tell you w/o a doubt there is NO comparison whatsoever between the 2 games. "The Show" even has me saying..."wow, EA never had that". I mean everything you can dream up about being at the ballpark is in "MLB 07". A special mention is the career mode. Design your own player facial hair, batting stance, and pick your stadium intro music. Then try to survive spring training for a shot at playing your favorite position for your favorite team. Fail and its back to AAA with you or worse....(Yes,there are tons of playable AAA teams) Also worth mention is the announcing and graphics, both top notch for any sports game on the market. If you are a Baseball nut w/ a PS3 this is the one.
On Line Play is GARABAGE!     On: 2007-07-16

Between this and 2K7 Baseball this is by far the better game. However, Sonys online play is the worst Ive ever seen. Traffic delays and dropped games are the norm. In fact, Ive tried playing online a dozen times since I bought the game when it was first released and have yet to finish a single, nine inning game without the Sony server dropping the game.

Upon first release, Sony issued a press release saying they were working on the problem. Two months later and its just as bad as the first day it hit the market. GARBAGE! By far the worst on line experience of any game Ive ever played.

With friends located all over the country we all bought this to play on line together and cant. Its a $60 game that isnt worth two cents online.
Great game     On: 2007-07-12

This is a great baseball game, there are only two thigns that are missing, one is homerun celebrations, fireworks, player signature moves, and the second one is can someone explain to me were is Barry Bonds?
2k Has Nothing On This Game     On: 2007-07-07

After playing this game I can say for sure that there is no reason to buy 2ks baseball game if you own a PS3 (or even a PS2 for that matter). The graphics on this are so much better on the PS3 than 2k7 and gameplay is so much more natural. If youve played this on PS2, the PS3 version plays exactly the same so there is no transition to worry about. I can say for sure that this is the best baseball game on the market.
A Great Successor to The Show 06     On: 2007-06-26

Probably one of the best Baseball Sims out there. If youve played MLB The Show 06, then DEFINITELY pick this up as it is 10 times better than an already amazing game! A great game to add to your collection!
Great gameplay     On: 2007-06-20

This is one of the hardest sport games Ive ever played. Madden is hard sometimes but if youre having a bad day on the mound it could be a long long day. Its a fun game and its a looker! A must buy or rent for ps3 owners.
exciting     On: 2007-06-08

I just bought a playstation III machine and my sons, 10 and 6 want to play it all the time. the graphics on this game are fantastic. they were playing it (I have a sony hd tv) and their grandmother thought it was a live game on tv! they seem to have alot of fun. they play it quite abit and I hear them shouting and having alot of fun. they dont do that with their other games. I dont play it. but I have to give this a high rating because I see my sons having a blast!
Best Baseball game as of now.     On: 2007-05-30

I had the other baseball game, I think the title was Major League 2k7 or something. It wasnt fun to play for some reason. I bought the PS3 version first, got annoyed, exchanged it for the XBOX 360 version, got annoyed. The Show is definitely a step made in the right direction by sony. Rather than force people to use the motion feedback, MLB The show relies on classic mode(Just press the X button to hit). That is exactly what 30 year olds would want.Simplicity. The graphics are very neat.Bobby abreu looks more like bobby abreu in this game. Gameplay is extremely simple and fun. The camera angles somehow seem sharper in this game than the other one. I would recommend this game to anybody. It is fun.
Solid Game     On: 2007-05-21

As far as baseball games go this is a great one. The graphics arent anything spectacular but I think the company just wanted to get the mechanics down on it for the PS3 first. The gameplay is very fun, and the SixAxis controller sliding and jumping sensor works surprisingly well, but you occasionally will get the "I didnt mean to dive for that ball" type play. Road to the Show is a great feature for this game also. The only reason this game isnt five stars is because the graphics can and will get better for this game. Buy it!
Good Game but can't play online     On: 2007-05-20

The game hasnt changed much from last years, and its quite obvious that its a port from its playstation 2 form, graphics can be much better. Its a really good game and the road to the show is great.

However, the reason I am taking the time to write is to let you know there are some issues with the game. Not all but some. It requires you to disable your network connections prior to playing the game or the game will freeze on the load screen and you will have to hard reset your console (unplug from power, or flip the switch in the back). This eliminates your ability to play the game online. You can still play the game, but NOT ONLINE!! Hopefully Sony will have a patch like 2K sports did for there baseball game last year but until then. Some of us wont be able to play online.

No Contest     On: 2007-05-17

I had left a review for MLB 2k7 also and everything that I said and everything that I expected for this version of The Show held true. I cant review the game for itself becuase different people have different preferences. However in comparison to its compititon, there is no contest. Just as I had said in the other review, the biggest different that you will notice is the gameplay and it is absolutely awsome. Crystal clear graphics (which 2k7 has also) are a factor, but the smooth gameplay and realistic movements of the fielders, especially the pitchers is the biggest difference. The only complaint that I personally have is the new style of baserunning but you can switch that back to classic in game settings. No need to rent, just buy this outright it is fantastic.
Good game     On: 2007-05-17

I had that other baseball game (2K7) but did not like the out of focus look. For example when you are at the plate, the stands in the outfield are blurry and out of focus. I hated that so much that I sold the game right away. That also happens when the camera is on the batter. In that case, the fans in the stands to the sides and back of home plate are very blurry looking. I know that happens in real games but it looked dumb in a video game and should have been left out.

Compared to 2K7, MLB The Show has better graphics, better animations and an a very adequate play-by-play team. It was easy to get into the game play also. I only played a couple of games but I liked what I saw heard and liked the control scheme. A couple of things bugged me though. First, I once had MLB 05 on the PS2 and when you hit a home run, you would get fireworks and/or animation from objects like the rising apple in NY, the swinging bell in Philly or the rotating pin wheels and fireworks in White Sox Park (I know its Cellular Field but I prefer to call it White Sox Park). In the PS3 version, I didnt see any of that and was very dissapointed. How can they have it in a lesser version and not include it in the latest generation machines software. Did someone forget to put it in? It takes some of the fun out of hitting home runs. Also, the AI (artificial intelligence) can be suspect. I had a man on third and a ball was hit to the first baseman. Instead of trying to cut down the runner at the plate, he instead ran to touch first base to get the hitter and then threw to home. As a result the run scored when it should have been contested. Ive heard of other like mistakes and while no video game yet has proved to be perfect those are mistakes that should have been corrected in testing.

The crowd in this game looks great from every angle and is the best looking crown in any major sports video game. I read promotional material that said the crowd would interact by going for foul balls but that must have not made the final cut as I didnt see any instance where that happened. I hope they put back the fireworks and animations for home runs and implement the interactive crowd animation for chasing foul balls in next years game. Otherwise between this and the only other game in town (2K7), I would pick MLB The Show 07 for the PS3.
