2008-08-25This game is very fun. The graphics dont seem that next gen to me, but they are good enough. The main thing is thats its a blast to play especially with friends. This game reminds me so much of the movie Death Race and who knows this may have been the inspiration for that movie. I would highly recommend this game for anyone who wants to break out of the regular racing game stuff like PGR4 or GT4 and are just looking for a good time and something not real serious.

2008-07-14If you like car combat, this game will fill the bill. Along with multiplayer (online and split screen) the game offers a single player career mode. Racing and battle arena are included. This is a very polished game that has not been given its due. Apparently, the first Full Auto was unpolished with bad controls which has created some negativity with the second game. Though the controls in Full Auto 2 are certainly lose (and we are talking definite arcade here), you get use to them. The graphics are excellent. If you like car combat, you will want to give this a try.

2008-05-29I dont see why this game gets bad reviews. Maybe it is because the vehicles you start with suck. Once you unlock a few cars and weapons, this game really picks up. The story in the campaign mode is a little over the top, but the gameplay is great and very challenging (in a good way). You can opt to breeze right through the game and unlock a lot of stuff on your way, or you can go through and systematically beat every challenge and sub-challenge for each stage and unlock everything. Regardless, once you have a little time under your belt, go immediately to the Online Gladiator matches. This is where the game really shines. The Ranked arena is frequented by some players with some great skills, and it is fun to try to keep up (unlike some games where it is frustrating to keep getting shot Online, this one gives you a fighting chance to stay alive by the lack of spawn camping that the game inherently has due to the fast and furious gameplay, open fields, etc, in addition to the ability you have to blast the turbos and get away from your pursuers). Ive enjoyed this game more than any other PS3 game I have, including (dare I say it?) CoD4, R6V, and Assains Creed. Those games are fun, but they just dont have the lasting appeal that FA2 has (CoD4 comes close as it is an awesome game for different reasons - still, I would rather be playing FA2).
The unranked arenas also give a few more choices for gameplay that you cant get on single player or in the ranked arenas, such as Base Assault (quasi-capture the flag-esque game) and the Cat & Mouse Race (2 slow moving trucks on opposing teams race while everyone else gets the fast & tough cars called Warlords that go and try to prevent the opposing teams truck from finishing first).
After playing this game for a month or so, I actually went out and bought 3 more PS3s and 3 more copies of FA2 just so I could play against my kids (yes, my wife was quite irritated at me). On the weekends when Mom is sleeping in, we all "sneak" into the the living room where I move our other TVs in and we camp out there and blast each other for hours. The only other game that has come close to providing my kids and I this much fun was Mario Kart Double Dash for the Game Cube (NOT the Wii version - dont get me started on how they stripped out the ability to unlock on coop mode - but I digress).
Full Auto 2 has great graphics. Yes, every now and then youll have the stray box or pipe that falls "through" you or something like that, but in all actuality, I notice stuff like that happening on most every game (including Haze, which just released). It doesnt detract from the game at all since a) it doesnt happen all that often and b) the game is moving just too darn fast for you to notice. The actually look of the graphics is quite sharp, everything is well lit (even the darker areas) so you never have a hard time seeing, the environment is quite destructible (you can blow all sorts of stuff - and it STAYS blown up, unlike the little fake bullet holes that appear and magically disappear in many FPSs). You can even use the environment to kill your opponents (like blowing up an overhead rail, causing the speeding train passing by overhead to fall, crash, and blow up on your opponents, or blowing up a tower that when it falls, causes tunnels and ramps to appear, etc). The cars are detailed, and so is the damage that appears when you get shot. In fact, the damage is customized so that machine gun damage appears different than a missle, which is different from flame damage or even the look of a general crash into a wall.
As far as gameplay physics go, many people complain about the cars feeling "floaty". This is where I see the most flak for this game come from, and this is why in my first comment on this game I assume that these people just never tried to unlock any of the upgraded cars. Sure, the starter vehicles suck, but that just motivates you to unlock the better ones. In fact, the Enforcer (the police car) is one of the first cars you unlock, and it is one that has good enough stats and durability that it can be easily used to keep up with even the last few cars that you can unlock. It handles fine, as do most of the vehicles (minus the starters and the Phanthom). Of course, none of the car physics can match up with Gran Turismo 5, but come on, this is an arcade racer/FPS. I doubt slapping guns on GT5 cars would be very fun at all due to the realism (seriously - how many realistic cars could withstand a missle shot - especially those in GT5 that dont even show the damage?). Anyway, my take on the physics is that they handle the way Id expect them to for the most part and arent anything to complain about at all.
As far as variety of maps go, the races have more than enough to keep any ADHD player occupied for hours. The gladiator arenas definitely have enough to keep the online play from getting stale, but I do wish there had been more gladiator maps. I really think that if this game had come out now, the developers (now out of business - thanks for pulling out on them there, Eidos) would have been able to garner a lot more attention to this game by offering the downloadable maps that the current game developers are just now really starting to get into. Who knows, if they had offered a half-dozen extra arenas at 5 or 10 bucks or something, maybe that would have been enough to keep the afloat long enough to get some more gigs? Thats probably just wishful thinking on my part, but who knows?
Are there cons to this game? Well, the biggest and only real con is the lack of players Online. It can be difficult to sometime to find others on the boards, and if you arent patient enough, you may get the feeling that youve entered a ghost town when looking through the ranked and unranked areas. Rest assured, though, there ARE regulars that play, and many times you just have to go to the ranked arenas and just camp out for about 5-10 minutes (oftentimes the regulars are in a match, which is 10 minutes long for a ranked gladiator match, which means that if you wait, all of a sudden youll have 5 or 6 players pop up all at once as they go for another round - but you do have to camp out as when there are players going round after round, you only have about a 15 second window to catch the wave or else their next match will begin without you, and youll have no idea that they were ever there).
All in all, Full Auto 2 is great. I hope there is a way to squeeze out a Full Auto 3, but with the developers out of business and as much unwarranted flak this game received, there is hardly a chance of Sega trying to ressurect the title. I never played Twisted Metal before, so I can only hope that the PS3 version comes out and plays as well as FA2. Until then (and most likely long thereafter), Im going to be online playing FA2.

2008-05-18Full Auto 2 is an extremely fun car combat game. There are both racing modes and "gladiator" modes. In the gladiator mode you drive around a map with the objective to gain the most kills/least deaths. The online play is great, complete with leaderboards. The skill of some of the online players is impressive. The soundtrack is great, graphics look good, the campaign mode has a good storyline, and the variety of cars and weapons is terrific. I highly recommend this game for anyone who owns a PS3.

2008-04-24I have both ps3 and xbox360 and its strange that full auto1 was just for the xbox360 and 2 is just for ps3 if this was for the xbox360 i would play my great rock music thats downloaded into the 360 and play this game evan better and more hypeer but this game was hot wonder why it didnt come out for xbox360 but this was great

2008-03-01Full Auto 2 is perfect if you are looking for a game with lots of destruction. The cars explode beautifully, making you want to keep playing. There is nothing like seeing a high-end sports car ripped to shreds by your hood-mounted twin machine guns!
The Good:
- All the vehicles are wonderfully detailed
- The environments are realistically created
- Many buildings on the multiplayer maps are completely destructible, nothing like trapping your opponent in a building and sending the whole thing crashing down on top of him!
- All the maps are created with battle in mind. No places to hide.
The Bad:
- This game didnt offer as many vehicle customizations as I thought it would
- Some levels ARE difficult, but if you adjust your tactics, they can be easily beaten
This game is perfect if you just want to have a good time.

I gave it a little more time this time... and I was hooked. I think the graphics are great. The physics are not real-life, but more arcade-like, and I personally think they are appropriate for the game, once you get used to them. Once you get the hang of driving, which isnt that hard, I think you will enjoy the game a lot. Id much rather play this than Twisted metal (Black or otherwise)... this game is light years ahead of that.

Racing games where you shoot each other isnt exactly a new idea.
Basically this is a boring single player game. You play single player to figure out the abilities of the game and to unlock other cars for multiplayer.
Only one problem. Multiplayer online is horrible.
This was a rushed launch title. It would be best to forget that it ever came out in the first place.

2007-07-31Full Auto 2 is a part racing, part blowing stuff up game. This game puts you behind the wheel of a variety of souped up vehicles equipped with various weapons and offers a number of ways to play, ranging from races (with weapons, of course) to Gladiator mode deathmatches. Theres a story driven career mode (the story is pretty weak, however) with events that offer both primary and secondary goals and reward you with unlockable vehicles, weapons, and skins for your vehicles. There are also many ways to play multiplayer, both online and in head to head offline mode.
The good and bad of the game:
THE GOOD:
- Tons of stuff to blow up and break. Thats one of the great features of this game. In races you can take out streetlights, vehicles, glass buildings, and lots more, and in the gladiator fights you can wreak havoc by shooting tanker trucks full of oil and knocking over stacks of huge pipes (as well as much, much more). Driving through a building might result in your vehicle breaking through the floor and tumbling to the ground, and hitting certain parts of some structures may cause an entire building to collapse.
- The deathmatches, called Gladiator matches in the game, are a blast, even against the computer AI. With so much destructible stuff lying around the multiplayer maps become an absolute warzone with bullets, missiles, and explosions all over the place. The PS3 handles all the action pretty well too.
- You can create new paths by destroying certain parts of maps.
- Head to head multiplayer is a great option for offline gaming, and something thats lacking in a lot of games these days.
- Tons of unlockables
- Each event in career mode has primary and secondary objectives, so you can pass the event without doing everything perfect and go back and try for the secondaries later when youre up to the challenge.
THE BAD:
- If you want to use better weapons in multiplayer modes youve got to unlock those weapons in career mode first. Putting yourself in a gladiator match right out of the box will have you fending off computer opponents with flame throwers, missiles, lasers--all kinds of stuff--with your machine gun and smokescreen. If its REALLY necessary to unlock all the weapons the computer opponents in deathmatches shouldnt have them either.
- Vehicle control leaves something to be desired, especially when youre racing. Its not just that its tough to get used to--most of the vehicles just dont respond all that well to the controls, which is a mild annoyance in a wide open Gladiator match but a serious drawback when youre racing through narrow streets.
This game was a lot of fun overall. Comparisons to the Twisted Metal franchise are not misplaced, but this is a good game in the absence of a TM title on the PS3. While the Career mode leaves something to be desired the multiplayer options more than make up for it. Theres nothing groundbreaking in Full Auto 2, but its still a lot of fun.

The game runs at 1080p with 7.1 Surround sound, so you can see and hear every crash, missle, bullet shot, and turbo boost in the highest production quality. The game has numerous sports, muscles, and a few exotic cars, as well as numerous SUVs. The game also supports several areas of a city, some with a few tracks, and some with only one. Each one also has at least one battle arena, where the goal is the same as a demolition derby. Weapons are plentyfull. You have a choice of machine guns, mislles,shotguns, smokescreens, a dozer plow, a lazer, a flamethrower, and even grenades. Too bad you can only put on 2 weapons at a time, and some cars, usually the faster ones, cant support all weapons.
The story tries to add a reason behind the game, but youll only care about it by .01 percent at most.The games is pretty short, and replay value is small. Glitches are not terrible in the game, but occur from time to time. If you, like me, are looking for some PS3 games to last you until the end of the year when the great sequels come out (Mercs 2, Burnout 5, GTA5, Battlefield Bad Company), then this game is OK. Otherwise, save those 60 bucks.

2007-03-25Full Auto 2 is a huge disappointment, esp. since its a Sega game and I expected so much more. I had played the original Xbox 360-exclusive Full Auto and it was a total disaster. Full Auto 2, exclusive to the PS3, is a much improved version, but overall its still a crappy game.
First, the graphics is poor for a PS3 game (and for the price). The cars have no details and the environment inadequately rendered. It really feels like a PS2 game that was just half-heartedly dressed up.
Second, and more devastating, is the laughable car physics. The vehicles just feel weightless and ridiculously unreal. When you are racing you dont feel like you are racing at all. Its almost as if you werent even controlling your car. The physics here is the worst Ive seen in a racer in a long time (only the original Full Auto was worse).
Because you can shoot at your opponents when youre driving, theres so some fun factor to this game, especially for a couple of hours in the beginning. Ultimately, this game falls far short of its potentials (just like the original for the X360). It just sucks.

2007-03-08This game is pretty terrible. Its one of 3 games I purchased along with my PS3 and I played it maybe a total of 6 times.
This wasnt due to lack of wanting to play, but because each time I played Id end up so annoyed and infuriated that Id put it down for another week.
The graphics ARE nice, but there are slowdowns and it just isnt very control friendly. The races are atrociously hard, usually too hard to be fun, and theres rarely anyone worthwhile to play with online.
To top it off the game save file would get corrupted pretty often (no I did not turn off the console during HDD access). This is the only game this happens on so I think its just buggy.
Dont waste your money or your time, you wont be able to sell it for more than $20 at your local game store.

2007-02-11This is not your typical racing game. This is not your typical car destruction game. In the middle of these two genres we get a game called Full Auto 2. I made this one of my first PS3 purchases. Thinking that the game would be somewhat decent since the reviews were good. I was in love with the Twisted Metal series and thought this could at least be something to keep me occupied before other new games arrove. Generally my first impressions were good. The visuals are excellent and the mayhem is spectacular. This game is 1080p and it shows. Although it is also a rather new series. I would have to say it still needs some work. The game plays sloppily at times and the destruction seems much harder to achieve than I would like. When you are in the arenas it seems as though many cars attempt to avoid you which in turn takes a lot of fun out of destruction. Then the car physics are less reliable than I would enjoy. What made Twisted Metal so great was that the cars did what you wanted them to do. In this game it seems to easy to get stuck and in a defensless position. Although as you progress you can achieve better vehicles it seems more difficult than what I bargined for. Playing online is about the only thing I enjoyed since its a little easier to predict how people will respond. The computer A.I. responds terribly which in turn makes this game too difficult which in turn makes this game much less fun. I would be willing to try a sequel if they work on these issues. What they have is an excellent concept that needs to be much improved. I would advise anyone to rent this game first before plopping at least $50 on it.

2007-02-03I have put about 3 hours into this game including offline and online play. Online play is fun especially gladiator and Cat & Mouse. Destructible environments make the title more "believable." If this game were completely online, this game would be 4-5 stars.
The offline career mode is the only way to unlock the entire set of weapons and vehicles. There are several cheat codes to help you on your way. 5FINGERDISCOUNT and 10E6CUSTOMER are among them.
Now for the reason for the 3/5...You have to unlock the vehicles and weapons in career mode/cheat mode before you can use them online. So when you go online after playing 5 minutes of career mode with your smokescreen and machine guns be prepared to get blown away time and again by the folks (eg. 13 year old kids) with their homing missile and flamethrower.
The long and short of it: This game is a good rental or buy if you have a few friends who also have the game.

2007-01-23Im not entirely what exactly the game is about, I havent gotten very far in it because it is so hard to get interested in. Vehicle handeling and far from any other racing game, not in a good way. The destruction tactics arent all that neat, and graphically is disappointing as a PS3 title. I suggest getting a PSONE and playing the original twisted metal before wasting your money.

2007-01-16Full Auto 2 Battlelines for the PS3 provides fantastic racing / car destruction gameplay that has great graphics and very fun gameplay.
First, the setup. It is a rough and dirty future where a street gang sporting fast cars has taken over the streets, making the average citizen afraid to venture outdoors. A sentient computer system is trying to save the city, and wants you to infiltrate this gang to take it down. So you are street racing with machine guns and bombs in order to save the world :)
The game tosses you right into the fun with a triple mission of infiltration. You get races and kill-the-other deathmatches. Where it might be rough in other games to get thrown into the action, its actually really fun here. You blast away with your machine guns, zoom around corners, and discover the secret paths to make your laps go more quickly. The basic objectives are relatively simple to hit, but you get encouraged to try again for the secondary objectives to get skins. I like that they tell you up front what youll win if you hit your marks.
The graphics are very well done. The cities are gritty, with run down alleys and broken down storefronts. Its a lot of fun to blast away at the other cars, watching pieces fly and the environment destruct. You can cause many things to happen by destroying your world - buildings fall doesn on rival cars, new pathways open.
There isnt much to say here about sound. Theres the sound of squealing tires, explosions and blasting weapons. Your computer friend has the calm, even voice that prods you onward in your quest. The music soundtrack is sort of a low key urban rhythm that is very unobtrusive and doesnt distract you when you are trying to juggle the 7 cars bearing down on you.
This isnt a simple Mario Kart style of game. You really are tested in your skills. There are multiple paths, multiple enemies, multiple styles of cars, weapons, defenses and skills. As you go through the game you unlock a large number of options, and it comes down to your particular style of gameplay as to which works best for you. Some people are snipers, some are in-your-face blasters. The cars I customize will vary greatly from those my friends create, and each one works wonderfully for the way we play.
This is also what makes the game shine in multiplay. You have to think creatively about how to defend yourself against a given car with its weapons configuration, and how to best attack them. Multiply this by multiple opponents and you can see how this becomes a game requiring both fast fingers and an agile brain.
Even the cut scenes and config screens have much better graphics than previous games. They put work into each and every aspect here.
There are only minor complaints - if you change your controller config, it still prods you to do the "standard" button presses in the game. Also, I still find the zoom in after a kill to be annoying and unnecessary.
Highly recommended!

2006-12-23 First off, this game is not for everyone, you may be frustrated at first with the driving/shooting mechanics but after a few races it feels intuitive and smooth. There are lots of physics based traps that you can use to stop your rivals. The graphics in this game are amazing. If you bought Full Auto 1 and noticed the frame rate issues, the problems are almost nonexistent on the PS3. The game also supports 1080i which is nice touch but I myself prefer 720p for gaming anyday. A fan of twisted metal or burnout should make this a purchase for their shiny new PS3. I did and I think it is worth the money. If you are leery about this game at least give it a rental because it deserves a try. I have not yet tried the online but it is a welcomed addition and supposedly better than the original. I give Full Auto 2 5 stars out of 5, But on a ten point scale probably a 9 because of very minor flaws.

2006-12-16Ever since Mariokart on Nintendo 64 Ive been dying for a great driving/shooting game, and I havent found anything that compares to this. This has become the game I play most on PS3-- you cause massive amounts of destruction continuously, blasting away at cars and buildings with missiles, machine guns, flame throwers, and all while feeling that you are really flying down streets at speeds beyond what you can handle. If I could Id change the "overall" rating to 5 stars as well. This game requires a little more coordination than most other games. I agree with the previous review, that the car handling could be improved a little, but its not bad, and in fact, Ive really come to love it... it might not be the same as some video games, but you really feel that you are traveling at like 200 mph down city streets, so Id say its actually somewhat realistic for that situation. (And its better than the totally fake RidgeRacer 7 game for PS3.) The only improvement Id make is being able to add even more weapons to the car at once (instead of just two at a time), but that would require even more coordination. Maybe thats possible, but from all the weapons and vehicles that Ive unlocked so far it has not been an option. Still, it would be hard to cause even more damage than what you already do in this game.

2006-12-16Id love to have a few minutes alone with the idiots who created this game. I meant to put one star, but it wont let me change it. It is awesome in a few ways, but it has so many glitches that it will drive you nuts, especially in on-line mode. At random times you will not be able to get mortarts, wrenches, etc. because the game will just stop recognizing that you are there. Even your weapons will stop becoming effective for a few seconds at a time while your enemy pounds away on you and you look like an idiot. People will sometimes even "bounce" off of mortars without dying. Some people will be able to have the advantage of driving through walls or getting mortars by driving under them, while you for some reason will not. Some peoples nail bombs will kill you with one shot while your nail bombs wont kill them with three shots, yet sometimes the it switches around, so you have to play several games against someone to make it fair. It is so frustrating and retarded. Despite this, the game is hugely addicting, as you can see by the fact that I am currently ranked fifth in the world. Trust me, the problems are not due to internet glitches-- once you play the game you will see what I mean.
